I'm about to start this kit...it's been sitting around my cupboard for about 4 years. I have the wooden deck, Flyhawk resin bits, the Eduard 53020 photoetch upgrade and Trumpeters own props and barrels upgrade. Looking forward to binge watching your vids.

i built that kit 2 years ago. i added the trumpeter metal parts and a wooden deck. i found the fit bad and i had some problems in bringing in the wooden deck in the middle section and getting that section painted. Parts C15 and C16 had some bad fit and still give me nightmares to this day. needs to be said it was my 2nd ship and i am not too skilled yet this is such a beautiful ship and i am looking forward seeing you doing it right :-)

Thanks for the heads-up. Did you use the Pontos wooden deck?
@timmey1186 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidsShips I used the Cormake CY350007 with chains included not bad looking, but delicate in application. the decks are quite fragile, so you could lose single planks easily i have not experienced such things on the Artwox or WoodHunter decks so far

It’s funny how Trumpeter list the beam as 59.5 mm. You can see it on the front of the box. As soon as you put that wooden deck on the top of the box it became instantly apparent that this is wrong (which I already knew). -I suspect it’s 159.5 mm.- Correction. After watching you put the deck pieces on your cutting mat, I wonder if it might be 95.5…

I think you have it right. It must have been a typo. I measured it at its widest and it is 95.5mm.

'L' fret is the supports for the tropical sun awnings erected when the ship was at anchor in hot tropical ports. Kind of a pointless as the actual awnings would have to be fabricated and would conceal the main deck and hide a lot of interesting detail.

Thanks for clearing that up! I guess I won't be using those parts.

What was the issue you had with the Roma's anti-fouling? I read mixed reports that they used green or red paint. Was that your issue?
@DavidsShips Жыл бұрын
I had painted it red because I had also read mixed reports and that is what the painting guide depicted. It was then pointed out by multiple views that it was actually green and one of them gave me an approximate paint colour.

Hey David. You sound South African? If so, can you help with where to find the PE parts and wooden deck kits here?

Unfortunately there aren't any local suppliers, I have to import everything. Super Hobby in Poland has good service and surprisingly good shipping rates for couriers. You can get kits cheaper out of Hong Kong or China, but since COVID I have had problems with those retailers. They typically use the post office which has always worked out for me provided I waited long enough (up to a year). Ebay is also a good place to look. I typically find the less common items there and either ship them to SA or to the US depending on costs. I am fortunate to have friends in the US who are willing to be my shipping consolidator and I work in an industry with a good amount of travel to the US. The bottom line is that it is difficult to get these kits in SA with low shipping rates. I am sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

@@DavidsShips thank you for the reply. Great videos. Currently watching this playlist. Knowing how hard it is to get this stuff. I held my breath for you when doing the deck
