About 4 years ago, I bought the Quantum, and used it for quilting (mostly) for about 2-3 months. Then I had a stroke, and all things went untouched for all that time. We moved, twice, we had 3 deaths in the family, and other events kept me from picking up sewing again. I began pulling all the parts together, but couldn't find the instructions. I found you on KZbin, and joy! All kinds of projects are coming to me, and thoughts of, "Oh! That's what that is for!" etc. I am very much looking forward to sewing again! Thank you so much!

Yay, Roxanne! I just discovered how to use the #8 quilting stitch the other day - I couldn't believe how nicely it resembles hand quilting. I used it for an accent to a spread I'm making for a birthday gift. Although I prefer hand quilting over machine quilting, because of tendinitis issues with my hand, I am very happy I now have an alternative that simulates that look. I am still loving my 9960! -jo p.s. when you were demonstrating the shorter stitch, I was imagining how that could be worked to give the look of a hand pick stitch when installing a zipper...

Good to know quilting is possible on this machine. I must of got a dud! Sewing up a quick pair of kids pj pants, easy but quilting?! Ugh! Soon as I sew a long line, like a few feet, i start getting upper thread error. Every single time! So i rethread, sew again, works fine, & BAM soon as I sew long lines, it starts again! & quilting quilting, like sewing over the layers with batting, that's a joke too.. I am so frustrated!

A couple of other owners have reported bad upper thread sensors in their machines. Make sure you're threading with the presser foot up. That should help. If not, please call Singer for advice.

I have a 9960 and firstly thank you for your videos 🙏. Second I need to compete a baby quilt and watched your video on the 1/4 quilting foot and the one on how to install the walking food. I will be using plain quilters cotton on the front and back and using cotton batting. I would love your opinion on if I should use the walking foot or the 1/4 inch foot. I am not trying my hand at the free motion quilting but would just like straight or long wavy quilting lines. I love that heirloom stitch you showed in video 12 but do you need to use that foot for that or can I use the walking foot with that one? Suggestions for the one that will be the easiest please. Thanks

Thanks for these great videos! They really are just fabulous. And I love this quilting stitch! But I've had a terrible time achieving consistency on an actual quilt. It worked fine in practice on 4 layers of fabric, but it's been really horrible on the quilt. The tension is all over the place, the stitches bunch up or disappear; it's just awful. It works great for a row or two, and then just goes wonky and looks truly awful. I've tried rethreading, changing bobbins, changing to heavier needles, but nothing worked and now the quilt is pretty much ruined. Any idea what's wrong? I can't seem to find any forum that discusses troubleshooting this stitch. :(
@RoxanneStitches
@RoxanneStitches 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred! Glad you like my videos. Sorry for you frustration with the quilting stitch. Have you tried using a walking foot while using this stitch? That may help feed the fabric more evenly and give you a more consistent stitch.
@hypnosisfred766
@hypnosisfred766 9 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks for your help. I did try that, but no luck. Maybe this machine is just not suitable for heavier quilts, I don't know. I've only ever quilted small, light pieces by machine, so very little experience with it. It seems to help somewhat if I "pull" the fabric through with a fair amount of pressure, but it doesn't really solve the problem. Just makes it a little bit better. I'd take off the cover plate and check to see if there's a thread or something underneath, but the screwdriver handle is too long to get it down into the screws. It's the only other thing I can think to do. I hate it when I can't figure out how to fix a problem. Great videos though! They've been a world of help! :)

HypnosisFred Sorry the walking foot wasn't of much help, but I thought it would be worth it to try to mention it. If the machine had adjustable pressure, I think that would really help with heavier projects.

I know question was posted many yrs ago, but perhaps this will help someone else. Re thread machine and needle check needle sz and condition, is bobbin area clean? Did you thread machine with presser foot down (correct way)? Threading machine with presser foot up can cause nesting. Watch some videos about tension problems if still having nesting.
@casserole4697

JoJo Sewist this helped me somewhat as a current person still experiencing nesting. I’m sewing a quilt and the first half of the project went just fine but now for some reason I cannot get the underside to match the top I’ve tried adjusting the tension. I’ve retreaded more then I can count I’ve cleaned the lint my last resort I assume would be to change my needle I just don’t know when it’s time for a new one for this is my first time using a machine and owning one I’ve always done hand sewing I’ve read my manual I’ve called customer support
