1/400 ORP Grom Polish Destroyer scale model ship

My Great grandfather was on this ship! He met my great gran after it got destroyed when they were rescued by the british and dropped off at scotland. I hold great pride in knowing he was a part of the small yet determined polish navy. He died in 2009 at the age of 92 :) Cool ship and great job! You do it justice. It is an absolute joy to watch you paint it especially. Exquisite talent

I built this model before lots of fun just as it is. But I went and started to get crazy adding a lot of little acid etched parts making myself blind. Ha ha I’m half way through building the IJN Destroyer Yukikaze. Looks wild, I’m struggling with all the little fiddly bits of acid etch brass parts. I wish I knew how these pros build model ships so fast?? It takes me 5-6 months to over a year for some models. I’m building from scratch a P-47D/30 RA thunder bolt plane. With a 32” wing span WW-2 fighter. 6 channel rc set up. Can’t wait to start the Alumn tape panel work.

Great done! Looks really good! Applying oils was very interesting. And BTW: it was found, that any of Grom torpedo launcher exploded - when wreck of Grom was found in Rombakken fiord, both launchers were found almost intact. So, what was that explosion is still a mystery. All the best for You! ;)

since after O.R.P Grom was sunk the Polish Navy purchased the Soviet Union's Destroyer Smetlivyi Smetlivyi's name was changed to Grom even though it was about to be scrapped its remains still survive along side with another halk Wicher (originally as the Soviet Union destroyer Skoryi)

Yes, even if there wasn't much of them. From bigger ships they had 2 destroyers, ORP Grom (Thunder) and ORP Błyskawica (Lightning) which can be seen today in Gdynia harbour. With that 3 submarines, ORP Wilk (Wolf), ORP Ryś (Lynx) and ORP Orzeł ( Eagle). All interned in neutral countries after the capitulation of Poland. But we can't forget that Poland as the 2 republic existed from 1918 so they haven't got much time to build up a navy.

And Grom served with you, Royal Navy... She came to Great Britain shortly after German attack on Poland, in 1939. Same as her sister-ship, ORP Błyskawica, and other destroyer - Burza (Storm). Green Sergeant didn't mention on it - he thought about submarines, when he wrote about internation. I hope ;)
