Coming late to this video! Well done...and great attention to detail. You have her in her September 1945 configuration. They brought back to the West Coast many Fletchers in July 1945 to refit for the kamikaze threat (and of course, we were planning on the war lasting until 1947.) Thankfully, she was never needed in this scheme of 5x Twin 40mm, 6x Twin 20mm, 1x Quintuple Torpedo Tube, 6x Depth Charge Projectors and 2x Depth Charge Racks. By 1952, the twin 40mms at the bridge were replaced with the hedgehogs, by 1954 the 40mms everywhere were replaced by three twin 3"50s, and Mt 53 5"38 was removed, and by 1962, the quintuple torpedo was replaced by the triple Mt 32 ASW tubes port and starboard. Thanks for embedding us in your description! Well done again. Please respond if you ever want to know about her different configurations, if you'd like to make a 1943 model, or a 1962 model! Stay well!

Wow, that means a lot coming from the stewards of the actual The Sullivans! I would like to do the 1943 configuration at some point, I think doing any of the post war versions would require more extensive modifications to the kit that are a little beyond my skills right now. Thank you for your comment and for keeping an important piece of history afloat! Brett

Does this come with PE or did you get a PE kit separate and keep it in the box?
@HammerheadModelMaking Жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately this kit does not come with PE, I had just stored it in the box. I used a PE set from Toms Model works, and while OK, it wasn't the best. The instructions were very difficult to understand and did not provide clear details on how things went together.
@hattrick8684 Жыл бұрын
@@HammerheadModelMaking is there a different manufacturer you’d recommend for this kit? I didn’t see one from Eduard.
@HammerheadModelMaking Жыл бұрын
@@hattrick8684 There is a full upgrade set from Five Star Models that is really comprehensive, but it's very expensive and not particularly easy to acquire. Additionally, looking at the Eduard PE set for the Tamiya Fletcher, it would give you about 90% of what you would need, it really only lacks the PE for the AA guns that the trumpeter kit comes with.

@@HammerheadModelMaking thank you, I appreciate you looking into it. I’m looking to build this kit into DD-557 Johnston. There’s only one kit I could find for that ship and it’s about the cost of a 1/350 BB. Also never heard of the company so may be hard to come by
@HammerheadModelMaking Жыл бұрын
@@hattrick8684 Granted, I'm not that familiar with the Johnston, but I believe it was a square bridge Fletcher, so I think you could get away with using the Trumpeter kit as a base, since it can be built up as both the early war version (with both sets of torpedo launchers) and the late war refit. Just my two cents though. Further research might be needed to verify.

Unfortunately the USS The Sullivans is in need of some major repairs. Years of wear on the hull resulted in holes and the ship began to seriously list at the moorings. The ship was pumped out and the hull was patched to upright the ship. A storm with high winds recently caused the Sullivans to list once again. The City of Buffalo is working on a plan to dry dock the USS The Sullivans for much needed repairs to the hull as well as new shaft seals. I wish KZbin allowed response with pictures. I would have posted shots.

Brett.... I hope you see this message. Not sure how to send you comments or questions. I just watched your USS Sullivans video and was thouroghly impressed. My friends father was on a destroyer in WW2 (Fletcher class) and I wanted to surprise him with a model of his father's ship. His ship was the USS Terry. First question... Is there a way to get bow decals for the Terry? DD 513 was the ship's number. Not too hip on special order decals. Is there a site to go and order custom made decals? Also, there was a lot of PE in the Trumpeter kit you built. After market ordering? If so, where? Or did it come with the kit? I have the Sullivans kit in my Amazon cart and will order once I hear back from you. Thanks so much Brett for your great work and fantastic detail work. Have a good week.

Thank you. The photo etch is not included, I purchased it from Tom’s Model works. I wasn’t super impressed with the PE, but it is designed specifically for this kit.
@cjdavis2684 Жыл бұрын
Your model is really nice and you did a really nice paint job on it. Only two things are not accurate on it. 1. Your decals should have been reversed. The larger numbers would have been towards the bow with a smaller numbers being towards the stern. 2. The whale boats would have been painted the same color as the superstructure. With the interior being deck blue. Whale boats were never painted white. They would had been perfect for submarines to gage speed and distance amidship. And planes would been able to target them from the air for bombing, or strafing if they had been. Other wise the model is awesome.

Looks like it could just about pass for the U.S.S. Kidd DD-661 in its end of war configuration (now the museum ship configuration) (You'd have to paint your own "Capt. Kidd pirate" on the stacks.
@HammerheadModelMaking2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, Kidd and The Sullivans would have received the same late war refit and would have been in very similar configurations, so it wouldn't be a huge stretch to be able to model the Kidd, might have to consider that.
