Great review! I was building the Italeri kit when this kit was announced, but I saw the price and was like, "Nah, I already got a 1/48 Osprey; I'll just stick with it." Well, long story short, I gave up on that kit and got the Hobbyboss one. To be fair, the Italeri kit isn't too bad, but it's got a lot of fit issues and it's definitely showing its age. So far, the Hobbyboss kit completely blows the Italeri kit out of the water; the detail is phenomenally better and everything is practically a snap fit. I got a set of Flying Leathernecks "Tiltrotor Tango" decals and Eduard masks and PE seatbelts for it. Loving every second of building this big bird, and yes, its a BIG bird! AAAANNNDDD....you've got a new subscriber, too! 😁

That's really good to hear Jarod, I also got the Leatherneck decals and mask sets - I've got some pilots and crew to put it in as well. Again, another kit I can't wait to get to, not sure when! Thanks for the sub! Cheers, Chris

G’day Chris, I’m really stoked about this kit. I’m not sure why but I liked this airframe the first time I saw it fly. What a pity it had so many issues when it was in development and first deployed with US forces, still they persisted and ironed most of them out. I’m so glad it’s still in the US inventory. It’s a bit like my beloved Hercs, where function outweighs form. The Osprey is such a versatile aircraft. If I had eye teeth, I’d give them for a few ‘jollies’ on an Osprey. It’s got a standard max take-off weight of 47,500 lbs and can be fitted out to carry some pretty impressive ordinance that turn it into a gunship, if needed. I’m not certain that I’d be on-board for that, those huge props make for inviting ground to air targets yet, I reckon as most of this ship is carbon fibre it probably could take quite a few rounds; RPGs, I’m not so sure. I’d have to look at the real-world dimensions but I reckon a couple of them could be transported in a Galaxy, maybe one in a C-17. I suppose the USMC carts them around on ‘chopper carriers’ courtesy of the USN who have their own Ospreys, I’m told. Thanks for that close look at the model. Hobby Boss is, somehow, picking up its game here and there. I was really impress by your rough dry-fit. I’ll have to save up for the purchase price but given the plastic you get the $$ are not too excessive. I’m enjoying catching up on your older videos, Chris. Cheers and thanks! BH

The things I miss when I hibernate. The way that cargo bay is engineered is impressively ambitious for HB. That's approaching Tamiya levels of engineering which is encouraging that they seem to care about their product. But at the same time they just phoned it in on the intakes. 🤷‍♂️The price for a 48th kit does seem a bit elevated but I am going to have to have one. Great weathering canvass.

A sprue review without a dry fit is a waste of time. Your review means we can purchase this kit with confidence (and possibly a 2nd mortgage)

10/10 Chris. Great review. I have decided to wait on building mine to see what aftermarket comes out so I can super detail the inside. I am sure Blackdog will release a resin engine. They already do it for the 1/72 Hasegawa version.

RW Hobbies that's a good decision, I will likely do the same and see what aftermarket is coming, anyway like I said I have others to finish first! Cheers Chris

Nice review. Can’t believe they got the versions wrong. CV-22 parts on a MV-22 doh.

Thanks, I think that probe/knob is the only CV part, I'm no Osprey expert, but Trumpeter aka HobbyBoss aren't known for getting it right the first time! Cheers, Chris

That's a big, decently detailed and somewhat complex build - the cost might be justified - its not a weekend build for novices even OOB for sure!
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, knock it out in a weekend easy! Maybe without sleeping....its actually pretty straightforward build, I wouldnt worry too much about the interior, just add some hoses/wires to the outside nacelles (if posed vertically) and cut those flaps back - couple hours extra work. Rest should fall together!

It looks like the rear hatch is shut. I wonder what it would take to accurately display them open as the Marines would have them.

Indeed - Ill have another look at the kit when I get home from holidays and have a go at that rear hatch, as I indeed on doing mine on the flight deck...cheers Chris

The only thing that sucks about the two companies that made these kit is, there's no variant to the landing gears. Why do they insist on keeping these thing positioned for the floor when they were made to fly?

Agreed - its the bane of my existence! And the gods of modelling are mocking me when most Airfux kits come with closeable landing gear doors....cheers Chris

Cool video! I got to fly on one of these from Guam to Rota (CNMI) a couple of years ago and have wanted to build one ever since. Where'd you get that carrier deck?
@beckersmodels

That would have been a great flight - I cant remember where I got that base, I got two at the same time, one to do my CH-53E on, I'll have to track it down. Thanks for the comment, cheers, Chris

very tempting to do inflight - I still have a Hasegawa version somewhere in the back of the stash cupboard that could do the trick!
