This seems like a very practical vessel. Not the best materials or fit and finish but more practicality than vessels costing much more money. This would be an excellent Great Lakes boat that you live aboard on weekends and go out for a cruise on nice days. It has the sea keeping ability and accommodations to take a long vacation exploring the many harbor towns on the Great Lakes as well.

Thanks for an excellent tour. The Beneteau 54 Trawler has a lot to offer as you pointed out. Perhaps a tad pudgy in appearance, but the comfort enabled by the full upper structure is a worthwhile result. I was particularly impressed by the engine room -- it looks like there is quite easy access to almost everything, very valuable for an owner/operator. Easy tender storage and launching from the stern platform, and the boat appears run level and easily from 9 knots to 20+ knots. A well-thought-out production motor yacht.

34:48 If you need a sexy boat or one with really high end finishes, don't get this. If you want a comfortable, well thought out boat, this fits that roll nicely. I'm a fan of interior stairs to the fly bridge and that huge lazerette. The biggest need, that I see, is a water maker. How can they pretend this is long range/time cruiser without that capability. Imagine taking the family away for a couple weeks and needing to pull in to fill the water tanks before the fuel tanks.

It could benefit from a dose of streamlining and style, which wouldn't compromise the interior volume much. It sort of resembles a sliced pan with a fly bridge. Accepted its boat No.1 , the all white colour makes it look like bland. The interior lay out is great, lots of great ideas going on. The trash bin accessed from the deck is really good. It might help having a small light when you lift the lid to help you see what level your bin is at. Might be just the video but it looked dark in there. The main deck interior, looked a bit Ikea'ish but I'm sure the colour choice is yours if you are buying one. They have a long history of building quality boats and for the price you get a lot of boat. I certainly wouldn't refuse one.

Beneteau are high volume value for money yachts. Up to a point, no yachts are cheap. I have a First 501 Beneteau sailing yacht, bought second hand. Over 15 years she has more given us great cruising both in the UK and the med. Squeaky floors, for sure, joinery prefabricated, for sure. Quality far below Hallberg, Oyster, Swan ect, for sure. The fact is that if we had waited to afford one of these we would still be waiting.

Wow, a great Swift Trawler. Love the internal stairs! Reminds me of the 2006(?) Fairline Squadron 55, but a far better execution! Superb! As an owner though, the aft cockpit becomes a very important place on a boat. In multiple's of ways, they've got it bang on (canopies, full overhead protection, side wind breaks doors to enclose the space), but for me the actual layout needs more tweaking? Love the glass bulkhead, but that seating needs a serious tweak, for a 56 footer (imho). Everything else - stunningly good, practical, and well thought out. Great review Alex. 👍👍

A very practical boat with a few more tweaks to be done, she is the 1st boat to be produced. I'd like to see some more different choices for decor, maybe say 3 choices of woods. A bit of variety for the owner to choose from. Like both helms, the salon and cockpit, the solar panels are very useful for explorer yachts. Cabins nicely appointed for comfort but again practical. Good review with honest opinions, pointing out some tweaks that are needed. Overall this is a likeable boat that Beneteau has produced and a good addition to the Swift trawler range.

These larger vessels take a good deal of effort when thoroughly reviewed - a great effort from you, Alex. (Also looked like a bit of hot work with those long pants). Re: styling: Exactly what you said. This looks just like all the smaller Swift Trawlers at our marina, essentially tall white Florida condominiums with one pointy end. But just as well equipped!

I've been the skipper of a few Beneteau boats, among them a Swift Trawler about 10 years ago. the quality and tidiness of everything outside of plain view is really not that good. but, for the price range I wouldn't expect something more. I did some crossing with the Swift Trawler in the med, and it did OK. for instance, one time the skipper chair on the flybridge broke off. I would recommend it for it's price range.

I understand that 1000miles is long compared to a princess running at 25+ knots, but every time I hear "long range" I get a little excited that I may have found an ocean crosser to nip over to the US for a bit of a change of scenery only to hear 1k miles and get disappointed.

A great tour of a great boat at a truly reasonable price. Such clever and innovative design, very practical. I love the zonal design, the galley area is perfect. The slight modifications to the helm and stainless steel additions to the cosmetics are a good idea and will only lift this gem of a boat. 👍👍👍👍👍

More of a party/day boat than what the swift trawler 64 was. THE 64 feltt like that was truly meamt to take 5 or 6 people to a fair amount of island hopping for a few weeks a d this feels like 4 maybe 6, bur really 4 people and 2 kids counting as people for a weekend, but 10 or 12 people for a day to the nearest island with a hotel.

It's actually pretty quiet. In fact, a 10-knot cruise sees readings of around 62-63dB, which is considerably lower than average. The driving noise you're getting is probably down to two things: my iffy microphone connection, which increases ambient noise (we've since invested in some upgraded kit); and the fact that we avoid adding noise reduction to the audio during the drive section cos we want you to get a more faithful sense of the helming experience.

Hi Alex why dont you simply wear deck shoes instead of getting burnt feet? The ones with the siping style soles which help with a wet wooden deck, plenty of styles now and with non marking properties. Or dont have wood type at all and have non slip material. You spend a great deal of time showing us different boats I would be interested in hearing from the more experienced boaters of how they cope in say the med or similar heat.

I just can't bring myself to wear deck shoes! Not my cup of tea at all. But even if I could, I'd still have to whip them off when I get on the boat to avoid dirtying the decks. As regards the best deck for staying cool in the sun, I've previously found cork to be excellent. But there are plenty of materials to choose from now so it could well be worth an article in its own right.

@@alexsmith3945 never thought about cork at all. Was thinking of Orca Bay Fowey for me and Helly Hanson Ahiga V4 for my lady. Only to be worn and kept on board at all times. Plenty of other deck shoes for going ashore. I appreciate you replying so quickly.

Yeah, Nick and I know each other well. Really good lad. Good vids too. But there's not much chance of me attempting to tidy stuff up while the camera's rolling cos firstly, it's boring to watch; secondly, it distracts me from my train of thought; and thirdly, I tend to cock it up one-handed. Yeah, it can be difficult with one hand when you're trying to show the details. But it's a £1.4M cruiser. It's designed to accommodate families for long spells and to go to sea for long passages. If it can't cope with a bit of prodding and poking, it probably isn't fit for purpose.
