It looks like alot but only weighs about 40 lbs. My girl rides on the back all the time & she weighs 120 lbs. The bike handles the baggage just fine & theres not an issue when my girls on the back either. The motor on the 300 is a strong little motor & capable of more than people think. thanks for watchin

WOW this video brings back allot of memories for me. 30 years ago I too went on a trip on my small bike and had bags and tank bag similar to what you used. My bike? A Yamaha RZ 350 liquid cooled 2 stroke. She never missed a beat,,worked great and I got an average of 55 MPG (Imperial). Small bike are great for trips like what you did,,enough power for passing great gas mileage. I had a great trip and I had no rain to boot! Keep up the good videos,, Laurence (Laurie)

The 300 is peppy but its no 650. So far I've been very happy with it. Around town it gets around great, feels quick. I've taken my wife on the highway with it & even with a passenger it does just fine. I would definitely recommend this bike, but you have to remember it's only a 300. Which isn't a bad thing, great gas mileage & fun to ride!

SkullyRider I’ve been thinking about trading in my 250 dual sport for the ninja 300. It’s mostly for commuting but MOST weekends I’d like to take a few hours trip to visit family around Florida, maybe 300 miles each way. I’m 6’4” 185lbs. I live in an rv so weight of my possessions is everything, that’s why I ride small bikes. I’m just tired of being stuck bellow 65mph. Thanks for the video and all the info, you brought comfort to me already because most people just want to bash small bikes and say you can’t do anything with them.

A couple comments/tips: It's not usually the lack of cushioning on a seat that kills you, but the lack of airflow. What Corbin does is shape them like a dish so the weight is distributed instead of like a lump, that gives hot spots. They also use material that breathes a bit. Leather costs extra these days, but it's worth it. By most accounts the seat on my stock CBR500R is better than the one on the Ninja 300, but the thing that REALLY makes the difference is the Beadrider saddle cover. Keeps the air moving and I don't get numb bum. Do I see grip puppies on there? I bet those helped a lot. I think I'm going to pick up a pair. Yeah, that's a lot of luggage. People always pack too much on their first trip. Here's a hot tip: bring your old socks and underwear and throw them out as you go. They're cheap. Don't bring too much food or gadgets. Bring rain gear. An upgraded windshield also really helped my CBR. I don't expect great coverage, but I do expect not to be getting noisy, turbulent air on my helmet. I changed the stock screen to a Puig and it made a huge difference. Wear ear plugs; that will help you keep your hearing. All the old Harley pirates are not deaf from their loud exhaust, it's from wind blast. I was going to say 55 mpg is pretty bad for a 300, but if you were cruising at 85 indicated, that's about 77 mph actual. You were probably running what, 11k RPM there? Then saddlebags hanging out into the air stream? All that considered, 55 mpg isn't bad. Another tip: try to stick to back highways. The miles are a LOT less tiring than expressway. I can literally ride 13 hours on back roads with the same amount of fatigue as 7 or 8 on the super slab. Wind blast is less. No turbulence off the back of trucks. Those two things flat wear a brother OUT. Oh, it'll also pay huge dividends in fuel economy. You'll be up to 70 mpg easy cruising at 60, compared to 75-80.
@openairokie11 жыл бұрын
No I haven't been that far north yet. but i'm planning on taking more road trips & that's on my list. I can't remember how many times I filled up but I averaged between 50 & 60 mpg. that was with all my gear & running 70 to 80mph.

Is the gearing stock on your bike? If you usually ride alone, you may want to consider a plus 2 front sprocket and a minus 2 rear sprocket. Would make your freeway trips far less "buzzy" and have a lower rpm., kind of like a 500 feel. You would need to get the specifics from a sprocket dealer as far as what to expect from any sprocket set-up as far as reduction of rpm.
@Smaug16 жыл бұрын
That's a LOT of gearing up for a 300 with no torque at the lower revs. Leave the gearing alone on these little guys. They can't really pull taller gearing without HUGE penalties in acceleration.

My 89 vtr 250 manages about 50 to 55 mpg at 75-80mph, so that sounds pretty accurate for a more modern machine, especially since it's probably geared a bit better for higher speeds.

Ninja 300 is lower quality than Honda, but if you're going to do any touring that involves expressways, it's still the way to go. a 300 twin cylinder is a LOT more powerful than a 250 single. Don't rule out a lightly used CBR500R either; it'll cost the same as a new Ninja 300 and is a better bike in every way except weight.

@openairokie11 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to lie to you it's not the most comfortable ride. My back was actually ok, it was my ass that hurt the most. I think if I invested in a good gel cel\memory foam seat it would make it a good ride. I can normally ride about 300 miles before I'm in pain. So to sum it up new seat & better hands grips will make this a decent tour. I've really had alot of fun with this bike & I'm not afraid to take more road trips. Bobby Hulse I really like my 300 & it works for me. I have several other bikes now but still enjoy riding this one. It can get the job done but don't forget it's only a 300. I've taken it on several long road trips. Lower gears has enough passing power but when you're doing 75 or higher not a lot of passing power but it will get the job done! If you're looking for a great little bike that can get you A to B reliably, cheap, & have fun in the process this is a good option. If you're looking for a rocket ship spend a little more & bump up to a bigger bike.
@openairokie7 жыл бұрын
Bobby Hulse I like it as well. It was at the progressive motorcycle show in Dallas. I sat on it & it was very comfortable. It had all the Kawasaki accessories on it.
