If you added up (I have used a stopwatch) from the time you first divert from your route to every charger, the time it takes to charge and back to you route again, regardless of whether or not you would have eg. stopped for lunch, how long was that? Also, the Superchargers are much harder to use here in France, when not using expensive Autoroutes, because they’re even further from National roads (equivalent of A roads in UK).

We had small kids on board. You need to stop a lot and anyway every 200 miles or so. But yes it does use some time.

Fab video... Thanks guys. Do you think this trip would be just as easy in a RWD? How often did you need to charge to 100%?
@CharlieLamdin5 ай бұрын
Yes, the new RWD models have the same range as this 2020 Long Range model. Rarely essential to charge to 100% but it makes sense to do so if you've stopped for lunch or a longer break when you can, without delaying.

We have also just completed a trip from London to Lisbon in a Fremont Model 3 LR. Also stopped for a splash and dash at Le Relais Du Bois. No issues with chargers on the way. Local EDP chargers were not so good. They would start at 120kW but then drop down to 30kW after a minute or two.

Hi, thanks for the helpful entertaining video. I am planning a trip to spain from london. Can i ask two questions please. 1: what you think how long it ll take us to get to spain Barcelona from london 2: and an estimated cost including super charge and toll.
@CharlieLamdin Жыл бұрын
I’ve done Barcelona to London in 12 hours driving non stop as fast as possible, but typically it would be a nice journey if you stop for the night around Paris. Costs? Tolls; charging, channel crossing… I’d budget €200 for tolls and charging (that’s more than enough) plus whatever your crossing cost is.
@husnaproduction3083 Жыл бұрын
@@CharlieLamdin thank you so much for replying. €200 including the supercharge that seems low, i was expecting a higher cost. We have decided to go to Bolzano (Itlay) from london. €200 estimate too good to be real 😀

Great video. I am really tempted to get myself a M3, but do you miss the trunk being a hatch? I rather want M3 but dont know with 2 kids i will regret not getting bigger trunk. Have you ever regret your M3 or is the opening still plenty? The liters itself is huge and compared to stationwagons.

Great video. However I think you’re over critical of non- Tesla EVs. I agree that the Supercharger network is great - and most of it is now open to us mere mortal non- Teslarati. And other networks have caught up fast - and are often in better, easier to find locations. I have zero range anxiety doing long trips in my Volvo EX30.

It's not a problem using a non Tesla in Europe, there are many other chargers like ionity which tend to be on motorways and other more convenient places and, certainly here in France, any car can use Tesla superchargers. I do think that Tesla owners sometimes have an inbuilt sense of superiority.
@CharlieLamdinАй бұрын
That’s because were obviously superior! 😜 I’m not serious of course and since I made this video in 2022 things have changed a lot. What is “superior” about Teslas is their range and the cost and speed of superchargers compared to ionity etc.
@brianbarcroft9167Ай бұрын
@CharlieLamdin Yeah but most superchargers don't charge at their designated speed do they and, given that every car can use them, what's the problem? And my Renault Mégane can, according to Renault, do 460km, so..... ? The only advantage I will concede to Tesla is that you don't have to frigg about with an app, you just plug in.
@brianbarcroft9167Ай бұрын
@CharlieLamdin Renault owners, thought Mobilize, have a special deal with ionity. I have never bothered to use it but I believe it brings prices down to Tesla levels.

Turnover in europe's motorway service stations has quadrupled due to the amount of lunches eaten whilst EV’s are charging

I cannot understand why public infrastructure in europe is so poor. why there aren't generic public fast chargers? rolling back 100 years, if I were to start a new auto maker, would I have to open a network of gas stations?
@Paulruk6 ай бұрын
It’s not poor there are many generic fast chargers. Not sure where you got that idea from.
@brianbarcroft9167Ай бұрын
@@qilu2004 What? Public charging in Europe is superb and you don't need to buy a particular car to use a certain charger. Open availability is a requirement for new chargers.

I’ve done the journey multiple times in: 1. Two different VW Touaregs 2. A 1989 Mercedes 3. A Tesla Model 3 Long Range. With small kids you have to stop whatever and I can tell you, for a fact, that the Tesla (while my least favourite car to do the trip in) is by far faster and cheaper than any of the others. To the point where we can’t afford to do the trip (at the speeds I like to drive) in the Touareg or Merc. So I can assure you I’m not delusional. The fuel in the Touareg is £1,000+ each way (because I drive it faster than average and fuel is astronomically expensive). My charging bill in the Tesla was around £200 each way. It’s much faster and much cheaper. Until you’ve tried it yourself, I’m afraid you’re the one who’s being delusional chap! 😊 😎
