Which makes it all the more frustrating that they couldn't see him as a starter over Grbac. At best Elvis could pad stats in garbage time. Gannon went on to be an MVP and lead the Raiders to the super bowl.

It was definitely a big mistake by Marty Shottenheimer especially in 97 I think Gannon went 6-1 when Grbac was hurt and for some reason Marty though since Grbac didn't lose the starting role he made the decision to start Grbac instead of Gannon in the Divisional Game against Denver which it was crazy cause Gannon Beat the Broncos 24-21 while Grabac lost 19-3 and Denver defense had problems stopping a slippery scrambler in Gannon but had a field day against a pocket passer Grbac

The irony of Gannon pulling the Raiders out of the wilderness, in no small part by being clutch and pulling a comeback off IN KANSAS CITY to knock them out of the playoffs and send THEM in to mediocrity, is not lost on me. I defend Rich Gannon to this day as a Raiders fan. I have had ONE great run in 37 years as a fan and he was the major reason for it.

There is a reason why the Cowboys got rid of Lin Elliot after the Bills game in 93. The Chiefs learned the hard way and continued to choke at home in the playoffs until finally winning a game at home last year.

I'm surprised that the Chiefs didn't let Louie Aguiar try and Kick a Field Goal after Lin Elliott missed twice. I would have, anyway. That's always killed Marty Schottenheimer's Good Teams. Bad Play calling in the Postseason & Bad Special Teams. The 86 & 89 Cleveland Browns, 95 & 97 Chiefs, & 04 & 06 Chargers. All were Teams that he put together that should have Won Super Bowels.

I was around 4 years old at the time of this depressing game lol. I didn't watch Football back then. This happened a couple weeks before my Birthday. All I have to say is that started a bad horrible playoffs storm drought for my Chiefs for about 25 years of always losing the playoffs but they ended that losing streak last season in the playoffs against the Colts and I celebrated a Chiefs Victory over the Colts last January lol. They almost beat New England after. Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes will get to that SB and win it in the future someday it might take a couple or few years. I've been a Die hard Chiefs fan for 20 years I started rooting for them in 1999 when I was 7 years old lol. Go Chiefs and Hulkamania Red and Yellow lives forever brother lol

Bono should have got pulled for Gannon earlier in the game than he did. I remember watching Gannon play several times that year when Bono got hurt and very impressed with him especially with knack for running with the ball and getting rushing TDs. Eventually he learned to throw 1st with the Raiders but Gannon should have started for Chiefs in 96 they would have had something special with him over Bono or Grbac.

Most NFL kickers couldn't make field goals in these conditions back then. Most of them had maximum 50-52 yard range indoors, and outdoors in good conditions 45-50 yards was their max. Outdoors in zero-degree weather generally knocked 5-10 yards off their range, putting even 40-yard attempts in peril. I remember watching games in frigid conditions where teams would punt from the opposing team's 30-yard line on fourth down. Kickers nowadays can make them from anywhere in any conditions.

Today's lesson is in the Cinderella Colts and the lucky Chiefs is in late action on NBC at 4pm in a very cold with wind chill under 20 in the AFC Divisional round is : "Screw The Kicker " 😑🏈. If anybody have ever listened to Adam Sandler song called ' The Lonesome kicker ' this is a tribute to Lin Elliott also as his misses 3 field goals with home field advantage through and dreaming of Phoenix is slammed right in their faces as they let one door adjar and the Colts defense pick apart Steve Bono ( who made it to the Pro bowl also) and not even Rich Gannon could save the Chiefs as Jim Harbaugh and the Colts dance their way to the Championship game in Pittsburgh next Sunday, while the playoffs curse continues for Marty as with Lin Elliott misses saying " Times up!!!! ⌛⌛⌛. @@justinyoung8062 Not sure about "should have" in '88. Niners had bad luck on turnovers and missed FG, and Cincy's only TD was on a kick return. SF dominated in yardage gained, just couldn't punch it in until the 4th quarter. The next season proved that the roster was still dominant, they just underperformed in the regular season. In '90, yeah, that game was statistically even and Buffalo had the better team. Just missed the last kick that would have won it.

@@sycaseyWell said. The 49ers were a juggernaut. Had Roger Craig nit fumbled in the closing minutes of the NFCCG, I believe SF three-peats in 1990. I think Steve Young would have outdueled Jim Kelly. Leonard Marshall's hit on Joe Montana would have rendered the latter inactive.

KC was actually 2-0 in playoff games at Arrowhead before this and their playoff curse really started here.
