I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused by something. I mean, I am missing something, I suppose. And in looking around the web for an answer, I've come across others who are confused. Maybe you, or someone reading this, can clarify this for me: When I use your calculations, the results come out nothing like the recommended dimensions for a bowtie segment found on various sites and videos. I'll give one example: I live about 35 miles above New York City, and one of the channels I would like to receive is WCBS, channel 2. This is now UHF channel 36 which is approximately 608 Mhz. Using the calculators you link to, one of them gives me a (converted to inches) set of dimensions of 7.28" width (for one half of the set of bowties), and a spread (height) of 4.86". This works out to an approximate length of 7.75" for each segment. The overall width of the set of bowties would therefore be about 8", with the gap between the bowties of .4". And most of the UHF frequencies for stations in my area, calculate to dimensions just little bit to either side of the above. BUT these dimensions are NOTHING like the various recommendations around the web for such a UHF bowtie. The segment recommendations are from about 9.5" to 12.5", giving a width of up to 15" and more. And the gap between them is usually recommended at from 2" to about 3.75". Why this great disparity? It is obvious it is me who is not understanding something, but I can't figure out what it is. Thanks in advance for any help here... I've got my frame, and my roll of 10 gauge copper wire, baluns, and so on... all I need is to break this deadlock...

Hi, your question is interresting and therefore I made a video about your specific case. You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/roa5ioacr6iDatU Hopefully it answers your question!

Keep it simple! Bowties for wideband UHF respond best if the bow measures 18" in total width. Having a 24" wide reflector. If you are just focusing on the use of the higher #'s your bow will respond well having only a 12" wide total bow with 24" screen. Now VHF channels you take the frequency such as 174 & divide by 6. It will be cut exactly to channel 13. 208 divided by 6 is nearly 35" this will be total widths for channel 7. They try to make it more difficult than it really is🧐

What is the difference in reception strength gain with using a solid sheet metal bow compared to a wire bowtie ?? Nice video Chrix.

Thank you for your interest. I didn't really notice a difference in reception strength.

Would cutting small triangle cutouts in the solid bows of the antenna increase the reception strength Sir ?? Thanks for your time too. vf@@chrix2381

Great video! Can you please tell me what formulas I need to use to calculate the length and height of the antenna, as well as the intverval between them? Thank you.

Hi Gabriel. The linkes I mentioned in the video are also in the description. These links give the dimensions you ask for.
