Thank you for thsi teaching. As you spoke of our labor, I was grateful of the verse that says that our labor in the Lord is NEVER in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58

Thank you for this in depth study of a difficult passage. I have always been taught that the works built on the foundation which is Christ are the general works of the believers, and some will be saved as through fire. I have studied this carefully and I have to conclude that the gold, silver and precious stones, wood, hay and stubble are the teachings (doctrine) preached by others who build on the foundation that Paul has laid. Paul says to the believers he is writing to that they are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in them. They are therefore saints and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. Their problem, as you pointed out, was that they were elevating men and arguing over whose teaching was right, which caused division in the Body which ought not to be. What was the division caused by? Ultimately by the different teaching that must not have been in agreement. Hence Paul's warning to men (ministers) about taking heed how they build on the foundation. Some of the teaching must have been either heresy or not beneficial to the church at Corinth. Seeing that the ones building on the foundation of Christ are teachers (and not every believer through the ages) throws a different light on the whole passage.
