Trying to get to the correct form, have land in central Texas. the pine trees are where over 100 turkey vultures roost. goal is to maintain the natural environment as a haven for birds.

How are you going to make sure that land that is approved for this program is maintained? You’ll have to make a stop at every land owners land at least every 2 years to make sure they aren’t neglecting it. Otherwise it’ll be like every other government program, misused and abused. People will take advantage of this if you let em sort of like the people who put 3 goats in their tiny little backyard for the agricultural tax exemption.

It's been around since the introduction of the 1996 Texas Farm Bill. You do not even get approved unless you submit an appropriate certified wildlife management plan that the chief appraiser usually reviews on a case-by-case basis. Each county's appraisal district is required to inspect the properties at least once every three years and the landowner submits an annual report every year, ensuring they are doing at least three of the seven TPWD approved management practices. If these qualifications are not met, the wildlife valuation gets revoked via a certified denial letter from the CAD, and the property returns to market value market value rates with rollbacks. Just because some of us aren't ignorant and value habitat diversity over warm season exotic grass monocultures doesn't mean it's a "no-good government program". What's the alternative? Make everyone pay inflated market value residential rates for large tracts of land with ag/wildlife as the primary land use? If you don't like the intensity of use requirements/minimum acreage requirements for goats where you live you should appeal in front of a review board to the county's central appraisal district (if you have any expert testimony to stand on--as they base their requirements on guidelines from the Texas Comptroller's Office). I find your comments come from a lack of education on the subject and I think if you did some more digging your opinions may change from blanketed skepticism to an optimistic outlook for the future if you value preserving natural Texas landscapes & native wildlife populations in the face of habitat fragmentation from accelerated urban development.
