This was the last dive I took in Lake Tanganyika on 18th December 2013, on the last day of a 6 weeks stay, based in Ndole Bay. "Magical" is a feeble word to describe how I still feel about it.
After some time in the shallows I decided to go deeper, but the deeper I got the more desolate it seemed. Still, something told me to continue following that seemingly barren lake floor that was slowly getting deeper. I then saw a couple of Emperor's.
They were very nervous when they saw me and I was wondering why. That camera caught the reason much before than I noticed it: they had a large school of young free swimming fry.
No one knows for sure what happens after the fry go their own way, I think, after 9 months.
The parents don't eat through this whole period. Their digestive systems even desappear somewhere along the way. Some people say they die, some say that they are able to recover their digestive systems.

"One of the most diverse habitats on earth"... Bro It's litterally nothing but algae and Chiclids. While I dont disagree with you that we need to preserve places like this, but I think you should blame no one but yourself for the destruction of the planet. you probably support it everytime you go to the supermarket.

Thanks for the video. That pugnacious male defending his nest on top of that rock at the beginning of the video is funny. I think it is a male Cyathopharynx furcifer or foai . I have been in to african cichlid aquariums for many years and have always wanted to take a dive in Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi.

Beautiful Lake, now why on earth would the leadership of the nations that utilize this Lake give permission to an Australian Company to drill for oil on this lake? This company couldn't even get permission from their own nation to drill on their own lakes. WAKE UP AFRICA and stop selling out your resources for some pocket change. Now lets say there was an oil spill on this lake similar to the spill of the BP SPILL in the gulf in America a few years back, will the leadership in Africa tell the company to clean up the spill and compensate the people? of course not , africans there have no leverage to make the white man do anything, they will just pack up and run back to AUSSIE, while millions upon millions of africans will be forced to seek water and food else where, but don't worry , the african leadership that allowed for this will still have their Mercedes Benze and Swiss Bank account.

That's a good point, and no truer words have ever been spoken. Just a quick review of history is ample testimony of this truth. It appears as if there is a greater unfolding of truth, and deception in the world today. A revelation, or narrative that things are far from ideal & quite possibly a discovery that conditions are very remote from being what they seem. A restless uneasiness that can be sensed, but is often just out of the reach of clear conscious definition or explanation, though it's right there in plain sight.

White man? There are more Chinese companies trying to lock up African resources now than the rest of the world combined. Yes, the history of colonialism in Africa is white on black but to make this about white on black now simply distracts from the objective. Resources like Lake Tanganyika need to be national preserves. Stop distracting from it with your race baiting bullshit.

@@proudkafir926 Correct. China has been going hardcore for African and Middle Eastern resources. On one hand, Africa does need to modernize, and its needs businesses. On the other hand, the lack of order in governments, the lack of jobs, and the lack of protections is very scary.
