@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Hello beautiful folks. Robbie. I have a important question. I love feeding the only few humming birds I have here sadly I get HUNDREDS of bees at my feeders and it’s just making things terrible for my birds. Please tell me what feeder to use that you like the most. I will be forever thankful. Sincerely. Judy.

You know, I never comment. I've been watching you for years. You've given me more projects that I want to do than I have life left. 😂 I'm 65 and had arthritis and back injuries from back in my 40's. Gardening has always been my way of staying sane, so when I wasn't physically able to do what gardening requires, I had no outlet. I was depressed. When I found KZbin and then you I was ecstatic. You didn't just tell me I could garden, you showed me that not only could I garden but it could become a work of art. The placement, colors, sizes and shapes of containers and toll covers are endless. Not only can we garden, we can create art; seasonally. There really isn't any way for me to thank you. But I hope that you know in your tired moments that you have made a difference in my life, in many lives. I wish many blessings for you and yours.

I used to collect bags of grass my neighbors put out to be picked up by the city and when I let my chicken flock go to my daughter, I stopped gardening and composting as I went on the road for five months with my husband and didn't start again when I came home. Today I was in the back yard and opened 7 huge bags I'd collected and never put on my compost pile! The grass had mostly broken down anyway and is full of earth worms! Each bag had compacted to almost nothing and was dirty and some had holes poked through in places. Every single bag managed to have moisture, decomposition and earth worms! Depending on how well the plastic bag had been treated as it was filled, picked up, and hauled to my house (ie, how many holes it got) I think is how well the grassy contents broke down. The contents from bag to bag varied in color and decomposition but boy am I happy to know it's full of life! I'll be putting a scoop of that rich goodness into my totes very soon!

OMG, do not give up gardening, there are so many videos out there now that are giving mis- information, some of it’s done accidentally and some of it is done on purpose. There’s also a lot of videos telling people all the things they have to buy and it’s just not necessary so I hope to continue to help for people that don’t want to buy and really don’t need to. Thanks so much and happy gardening ❤

Hi Robbie, love your channel. My ex-husband has become the hummingbird whisperer, thanks to you. 😊 I use the plant containers I have laying around. Personally, I use composting worms, but I’m also in Southern California, even through this cold spell, they have thrived. I had already been raising composting worms, so I’m not suggesting for people to buy them however, they multiply like crazy!Yes the worms will definitely come but those composting worms. Back to my point, I submerge the planter into the ground or raised bed. I put veggie scraps newspaper I can even dump my vacuum cleaning dust in there. Then, I put another pot on top with something growing in it. Reuse, recycle. It works great!

Today, I drilled holes in some totes. Put some shredded paper in the bottom. It is still too early to do much more in zone 6. I just pray my procedure (heart) doesn't take more than 3-4 weeks of recovery. This season, I will only be able to do a little. However, thanks to you, I have learned to garden much simpler. Have a wonderful weekend.

Go slow and take your time. Like you said it’s still too early. And if you can get some thing in the center of your tote, like a pitcher or food container and put matter in there, you’ll be able to grow a lot of different things in a single tote or two, take care be well.❤❤❤❤❤❤

You can use milk cartons they will get a little moldy and break down eventually but if you’re growing season is short it won’t matter you can dump all that compost matter all out later and throw it in the trash, I’m looking for something that will be more stable can last for years and easy to just lift the top, drop and stuff in and close it and no rodents or anything will get in there go for it. You can use plastic food containers too. Happy garden. ❤

Just stopping by to thank you for holding my hand this last year... my first year growing vegetables and container gardening. You're in Cali and I'm in Florida, both of us zone 10. You're thriftiness, your ideas, your constant encouragement, your laid-back, joyful, humourous disposition really helped a lot. Now friends are looking at me for advice (as if I know anything, lol). I tell everyone I know about this awesome lady named Robbie in California. You showed me many plants, like tomatoes keep on growing when everyone else was pulling them out. Well, yours are growing, mine are growing and in the last couple of weeks they have started blooming profusely again. I've had tomatoes all year long. I love growing in storage containers on a chair now, so much more room. I put a garden pot in like you teach, feed it scraps and put a pot of zinnias inside it. The cucumber, beans and radishes are doing well. You're the best Robbie. Have a blessed week.

You're the best! Every time I watch one of your videos I have to tell you :) I am going to do one or two hydroponic plants this year but I'm going back to composting in place even thought we moved back to an apartment. I can't wait to get it setup in the next couple weeks. I have it designed perfectly in my head. Of course I have to hide the containers since the apartment complex will complain about the plastic containers so we're going to make faux wooden planters :) I'm going to get some of the things from my local buy nothing group and I've been saving all my cottage cheese and yogurt containers to start my seeds this week! I'm so excited!!

Hi Robbie, love your videos and passion! I've been using one of your methods for a few years now and really love it:) I currently have 4 large planters set up with a small 10" or so "feeding" pot nestled into the soil top. On top of the feeding pots rests another pot that is wide and shallowish and filled with soil and small plants.I add my kitchen/garden scraps and fallen leaves to the feeding pot regularly to feed my worms and it gets watered via watering the top pot plants. I'm in the mid-Atlantic region so I start this up every spring by adding a chunk of ground soil to my middle pot with whatever worms and microbes are in it, and any critters that are surviving in my large pot can migrate back into their feeding area. Works great!

How about 1 composter at each end of your bed & 1 at the center, all lined up in a row radiating compost tea in all directions, feeding the entire 4 foot garden bed?😊

Hi Robbie - I do this!! I use empty Metamucil jugs, and the 4" clay drain dishes fit nicely as a lid, and the heavier weight of that helps keep them from blowing away in high wind. I save the trimmings from cabbage, etc. for them, and we have a paper shredder and I save the shreds, along with cut up cardboard rolls from toilet paper and paper towels, to top off the veggie scraps in the jugs. :-)

I love this idea and made a pitcher worm bin/composter for each of my 4’x4’ raised beds and planted them this morning. Such a great idea - thanks for sharing! I am excited to see the results.

I love your content. Always a new idea. I tried the pitchers but have the screw on tops. Decided to ditch the tops and put 1 gallon pots into the top of the pitchers instead. They fit perfectly. When I water the plant the pitcher gets watered. It's a win win since I'm trying to find room for more pots of flowers. Thanks for all the great ideas!

I have two worm towers that I did pay for 2 years ago. They are amazing. I live where there is an HOA so can't have compost piles. They don't even know they are there but the worms and plants do.

Last year I used cool-whip containers and raccoons would take off the lids to get my kitchen scraps. Do they have more trouble with the slip on pitcher tops? You are a bigger than life personality and a unique beauty on top of that. Serious question, did you ever do movies, televisions shows or commercials? It’s hard to imagine you could live in SoCal and have not been snatched up into the industry at one time or the other.

Oh my gosh, how funny no though I had thought about modeling st one time when I was very very young. I think you will do better with pitchers, I actually have another pitcher that might work. If you’ve got a raised bed, you could do the same thing with a larger 5 gallon bucket, but you’ll need a lid that snaps on to keep those raccoons out And I’ve got some other tips and tricks that may work for them too coming soon 😊❤️💕

I was going to add a comment so I will comment to you first. I use the black plastic pots from the garden center. I try to use the ones with the most holes in the bottom. I put my veggie scraps newspaper some soil, leaves but if I have something strong, smelling like mint, onion skin, even old spices I sprinkle it on the top. Then I submerge that pot into the ground and put another pot on top which has something growing in it. I have never had a problem doing this. I did once have a raccoon pop open every single can from a 24 can case of cat food. Poor guy. All that work, and he just couldn’t figure out how to pull the lid off.

@@justbeachy2031 if for any reason, you’re composting in a small area like that starts to smell just put a layer of soil on top of the scraps, that will bring in more microbes and that should fix the problem right away ❤

Hi Robbie - do you add worms or are enough in the ground that will come to your tote?
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Жыл бұрын
Generally the worms find their way in there, sometimes simply moving some soil from under a damp pot that sitting on the ground will have earth worms or earthworm eggs. And if they don’t come, for some reason, the microbes will do the job to. ❤

There is a modified hydrophonic growing method where you put the seedlings roots into a water reservoir in a container. They advise adding boughten fertilizer. I think a person should be able to use your fertilizer from the pitcher method but it would take a little experimenting to know how much to add to the water. What do you think?
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Жыл бұрын
I really don’t know, I do not do hydroponic growing at all, too much work, number one, and if you put the wrong stuff in there, it can go anaerobic. So I really don’t know.

Robbie, where did the earth worms come from? Do they come from the few that you put into the bucket as you were building the bucket or do you put one in the pitcher?

I've had a proper Indoor worm bin and it was fab. Since then, ( lost worms to a hurricane after putting them in my greenhouse which got smashed and flooded) I've not been able to sustain even a small population without catastrophe. Usually it's a fly infestation and going sour. I'd given up. But I may try again if my Mum will forgive a third request for worms. My biggest complaint, the flies taking over, would be minimized by the plastic barrier and lid. No matter how deeply I froze scraps, or buried , the flies would take over. I think moving the operation outdoors directly to the plants potting space will be nice. I will be doing both Kratky Passive Hydroponics and traditional soil ( trying to enhance some old compost ) so free fertilizer without the headache of open composting sounds grand.

Just like Susie Sue said you can use anything you want I just use these cause you’re easier to drop stuff in the drop the lids , but I also use food containers too. Sometimes they’re hard to get on and off with snap on push tops, but go for it.
