Mike Bryan is a most useful and knowledgeable guy, excellent video. Many Mercedes dealers prefer to renew the entire rear suspension arm rather than remove the bearing and Mike does it on the floor with home made kit. Thank you Mike

Joe O'Reilly hi there. Yeah gotta keep these repairs affordable. I cant afford big repair bills and dont trust anybody else to do a good enough job. Thanks for the kind words

Good video, can’t beat some improvisation. The process is similar on an e46. When I did mine i used a slide hammer to pull out the hub flange, then a bearing press kit (threaded bar with some large spacers/washers) to pull it through from the back. Took some effort to break the bearing carrier free because of all built up crap & rust over the years. Top vid 👍🏻

Hello every one Who has done this you should just think simplier we put similiar plate To between the bearining and the frame of the swing arm and use same type as the wheel Bolt but longer and use mercedes own treadh To pull the center piece out work good as drugs. 👍

Just cut a slice in the backing plate and slide it on, done in five minutes, then weld it back together. Grind the weld and paint it up.

jonasanell yes i thought of that but while the van was off the road fit it in one piece. Not sure of MOT rules on that. Thanks

Cut through a bolt hole and use washer. I paint the cut edge. Don't need to weld it.

You need to give up mechanics and go to college and learn tool making. Your ability to work out solutions to a problem and produce working tools is fantastic.

436wellington Thankyou, its a great way of spending time making things but no money in it beyond hobby level. Its just a copy of the principle that high level wheel bearing kits use. They're very expensive though.

Hello mate, do you sell this tool you’ve made mate? I have 10 Vito taxis so will come in really handy.

Thankyou, i’ll see if i can dig it out. The threaded puller part is just a standard kit from ebay, about 50-60 quid.

Great video. I have an issue where Mercedes dealer want to change the whole rear arm so I’m still trying to find someone who can do this.
@mikebryan544 Жыл бұрын
That doesn’t sound right, surely easier to remove arm and press out traditionally? Then refit same arm with bearing installed

I am wondering why the everything is SO rusty? ~ do they use salt on the local roads you travel on?
@mikebryan5443 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes every winter, but i think it is a trait of mercedes that they have a superficial rusting but bolts are still in good condition once removed. I think the van has been poorly serviced too

Hello Mike,what is the dimensions of the 8mm double plates? Despite the thickness. Thanks !
@mikebryan544 Жыл бұрын
I can’t say exactly in this case. However as long as the plate is large enough to accommodate the wheel stud PCD it will be fine. In this case the model is 5x112. Id go for 125mm to give plenty of area for the method to work. Use some cardboard to make a template up first. Also 8mm plate isn’t essential, 4or 5 would work equally as well i suppose.

@@mikebryan544 found a bearing puller tool but it says 85mm fits VW. T5 Touareg. And i dont if it works on bearings like this :(
