This was... a surprisingly difficult story for me. I love the concept, and you beautifully captured the essence, the very *feel* of it all, when a childhood snow day blows in. Looking back to my own age in 1986 (single digits,) I didn't have a particularly healthy relationship with the world, and I never expected to feel some of that spilling back out in this idyllic snow day adventure. Still, I'm going to come back to this one. I like how you presented Honey Brook, as a place where we can re-imagine things as they ought to have been, without judgment or fear. Perhaps this story can be viewed as a window into honouring the past, while recognising we have the power to create better relationships in the present. Maybe this wasn't the response you were expecting, Michelle, but you hit on something here for me. It was a beautiful story, and I guess we are all affected differently. Thank you for this very introspective trip down memory lane.
@MichellesSanctuary2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this-- we are all affected differently. I was a single-digit child at this point in history as well in a remarkably traumatic world at times. But I recall the good as well and know that whenever we as humans find that kindness and peace and connection, we are hardwired to protect it. Growing up, raised by my grandparents much of the time, my grandfather would drive through my small village and wave to everyone he passed and they waved and smiled back. At the age of 3, I thought-- wow, he knows everybody! He's so popular. Later on I realized he didn't know everyone-- he was just being kind and they returned the kindness. It stayed with me. As did the neighbors who were always involved in one another's lives.

The 80’s aren’t that long ago to me. It was a decade of very special memories great friends career highs and lots of growth for me. My childhood of innocence happened long before these years. I remember them well. Yes Campbell soup snow angels snow forts and rejoicing a snow day. Your little home pics were precious with a cute little precocious smart ass little girl with a gleam in her eyes. Certainly loved by all. Was glad it finished with the all grown up version. it always seemed to me we got bigger snow storms years ago until it dawned on me I was 2 feet tall. I hope we are finished with snow so far and hope it gets get a wee bit warmer I can’t deal with the cold it’s brutal. We were warned not to eat the snow when I was a kid because it supposedly contained strontium 90 from nuclear tests. I ate it anyway could explain all my problems.
@MichellesSanctuary2 жыл бұрын
Indeed those snowfall amounts seemed greater when smaller. I am hoping for a snow storm that sticks. Some of the most magical dog walks I had last night were when the rest of the city was asleep and the untouched snow waited outside the door. You're still here, so the snow didn't kill you. As I child I gulped up more of the Hudson River than any human being should, miles downstream from the PCBs. I imagine my idea of what a river tastes like is not exactly how clean rivers would taste. But here we are.
@larrymarcus31762 жыл бұрын
@@MichellesSanctuary the east river would have killed you! Body parts would have stuck in your throat. Listening now to your sweet story trying to calm down after frustrating phone call with my aged mother who refuses to let me come get her for dinner and load a book on her tablet or have me come over for a visit. Now rest of family will somehow insinuate it’s my fault. Untenable situations. Bring back 1986! I’ll go scream into a pillow and try and turn on my stoic persona. That usually doesn’t work too well. I’ll go hug my sleeping dog
@MichellesSanctuary2 жыл бұрын
@@larrymarcus3176 we cannot control other people in our lives. We can only control how we respond. Take care of yourself and remember you worth. Scream in a pillow and do what you can for self-care. Hugging a dog always helps. I got the "stoic artist" superlative years ago when running the arts and crafts program at a summer camp. And I thought, am I really that stoic?
@larrymarcus31762 жыл бұрын
@@MichellesSanctuary thanks for being you. I know I cannot control others but I live with em. So I can’t help my errant feelings when their trampled on. You’re about as stoic as as that little girl in your photos. You are certainly a better actor then me and possibly have a better poker face but you feel things as intensely as any human can. You have the youthful capacity to roll with it better and have mastered the fake it till you make it ideation. You have better global gestalt then I then most for that matter and have tons more grit. But stoicism isn’t compatible with your highly artistic brain but compatible with your rational brain and both of those are much More highly developed then this mere mortal. As for worth I accept all of us have worth just by being alive but it’s nice to have someone appreciate it every once in awhile- they don’t have to but it would be nice. Climbing the mountain with a boulder on my back has a nice view but it gets old quickly. It’s snowing here which means it’s doing so by you. Hope it accumulates for you and doesn’t here. Shoveling isn’t my idea of fun and ice angels won’t cut it for Lola to be able to find grass in yard to do her business.
