Hi Steve, I'm a handyman landlord and your videos have been a great help. I have you in mind every time I change a faucet or a wax ring. All the best from Chicago.

Can’t you just replace the valve handle?
@Fireship14 жыл бұрын
Funny how I learned dope was never to be put on unions or ferrules. After seeing Steve do it, I put it on everything. It keeps the torque tension down and is extra insurance against leakers.
@halfinchholes884 жыл бұрын
Unions and ferrules love anti-sieze. Apply for no troubles
@lordthorby61992 жыл бұрын
You can also wrap it with Teflon tape first than add pipe dope.

I like the idea of the valve incorporating a drain on the outlet side. We can't get them here in the UK. Thanks for the video Steve.

Yes, I was thinking that too. Handy when you want to solder nearby and you want a way to get rid of the water. Wish we had those!

They also work as a shut off to an outdoor tap. Allows water to drain out on the cold side

OK Steve I need your opinion. I want to change out an old existing gate valve for a ball valve in a 1/2 copper pipe feeding cold water to my boiler. Should I use the compression type or the SharkBite type? I value your opinion. Thank you in advance!

why not just solder it? you already soldering the coupling.

Why use compression over solder? Unless you don't know how to solder.
@he-got-a-new-mommy4 жыл бұрын
@@Hubjeep if there is a fire hazard for one reason. If that's all you have that is another reason. If you can't solder because water in pipes that's another reason. If you ran out of solder that's another reason. Do you think Steve can't solder?
@Hubjeep4 жыл бұрын
@@he-got-a-new-mommy Fire hazard is out since he is soldering the repair coupling, and this establishes he can solder and water are not in the pipes. Plenty of solder still on that spool so he's not out of solder. Final conclusion is that it's all he has on the truck. Everything else aside, I don't recall seeing him in such a rush in any other video, odd.
@lcampm24 жыл бұрын
Use solder on the compression and toss the compression fittings. Also if the pipe moved that much a sweat coupler wasn’t needed. Sorry Steve

Are you against sharkbite ball shutoff valve? I used one 6 months ago and no issues at all.

Emergency use. But then again u can use compression for that situation too and it can be permanent without worry.
