Will 1 inch makes a difference? Oh yes!! I am going to start some reviews on these longer lenses and comparisons within the Olympus line up to give you some ideas on their quality and performance. The MC-14 is a must if you like to stretch those long lenses you have, especially for those who already have the 40-150mm 2.8 Pro. This little converter will allow you to get just a little closer to the subject.

When I got the 40-150mm pro I had some doubt that the mc-14 would be better than cropping since people on dpreview said cropping was better. I rented one and tried and and men they where wrong. In most situation the mc-14 does a lot better than cropping and this even at higher iso as long as you stay under is 6400. Of course I bought one after those test and when I got the 300mm f4 pro I did the same test again and the mc-14 won on most shots too. Those two lenses are so incredible that the mc-14 IQ reduction is negligible and I simply forget I'm using a tc. On the 300mm f4 the mc-14 is installed 80% of the time and on the 40-150mm f2.8 the mc-14 is installed around 40% of the time. With the 300mm f4 pro this is an amazing birding and wildlife setup with so much stabilization that a tripod is not useful and it's so light and portable that I can handheld that for a complete day. Olympus has something very unique with those and they are well worth the money.

I just bought a brand new Olympus 300mm f4 and have paired it with the Mc 14 teleconverter and a Panasonic G9 for birding. It works beautifully. The stabilisation is only 4 stops with lens only but still sufficient to get sharp shots at 20 to 1/30 of a sec at 840mm. Hope Panasonic or OM digital will release higher megapixel cameras with maybe 30 megapixel then it will finally take full advantage of the sharpness of this lens.

Creative wildlife photographers have started using the high end Olympus body, this teleconverter, and the 300mm f4 lens to produce a lightweight hand-holdable (6 stops of image stabilization) camera with 840mm of 35mm equivalent reach! I have yet to see any KZbinr pick up on that combo.

Hey Jim, nice review of the converter. It does work with manual lenses. There is plenty of room for the converter’s front protruding lens element to extend easily into the adapter and not contact the back of any manual lenses. Cheers.

Which make of manual lenses would it fit Jim? I have the MC-14 and the 40-150 2.8 pro and it's nice but it was expensive,sometimes I think I should have just saved up for the Nikon P900 for a long reach :)

Mario Arias, you could use pretty much any manual lens with the right adapter. I have some old Zuiko lenses from my 35 mm days. Look on ebay for lens adapters. For my example, I have an OM to MFT adapter which then can attach to the MC-14. There are many vintage lenses that you could fit to your camera this way. Cheers.

There is always the argument: is it better to simply crop a good digital image or use a teleconverter. From my experience this teleconverter is clearly an improvement in image quality over cropping. With my Nikons by expensive teleconverters don't exceed the image quality over cropping to same angle of view. Most importantly for me is that this lens allows for a decrease in minimum focusing distance-- this is not so with Nikon's teleconverters.

Bought one to use with my 50-200mm Ziuko, since it is supposed to fit in the adapter. Hope it works, cause I also have the doubler & the 75-300, so that would be 840mm or 1680. We'll see how that works.

Just caught this piece on the Oly teleconverter. I’m wondering if there is a sweet spot focal length or aperture for either lens with the teleconverter that produces the optimum resolution. It kind of stands to reason that it would shift the normal sweet spot. Not sure finding the teleconverter sweet spot 🤔 would bring back the lenses’ standard resolution but perhaps it would bring it close. Does this make any sense?
