While I have watched most of Pastor Bohr's presentations and they have been a great blessing to my spiritual life and understanding, and I appreciate that greatly, yet I find it very difficult to support his view on the application of the 5th and 6th Trumpets. To me it is clear that Mrs. White approved of Josiah Litch's dating method to arrive at 1840, based on those two trumpets. The first version of Uriah Smith's Daniel and Revelation was published in 1882. Another version came out in 1897. There were two versions of Great Controversy that were published, and both contain her words concerning Josiah Litch's prediction of the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1840. The first version was published in 1888 and the next in 1911. Neither of those versions correct Smith in his interpretation of the 5th and 6th Trumpets, which was the same as Josiah Litch's view of the dates and application to the Muslim/ Ottoman Empire. One would think God would have corrected things that Litch and Smith had written, had they been wrong in their application. Yet, even in her 1911 edition, a few years before her death, she still approved of Litch's interpretation and what Smith said--at least about the 5th and 6th Trumpets. She does not comment on the first four of them, so they could be open to more than one interpretation, but I believe we show doubt in her inspiration when we play around and take out of context and twist what she said approving Litch's prediction. I believe that Pastor Bohr fails to look at the context of her words in The Great Controversy concerning Litch's prediction. If we look at the previous paragraphs before what she said about Litch's 1840 prediction, we see Mrs. White talking about the fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy concerning the falling of the stars, etc. as a sign of the end. Do Bohr, and other SDA's who stand up for Mrs. White's inspiration, also doubt that her words of approval concerning these signs in the heavens are not really her necessarily approving what Litch and Smith and others said about the falling of the stars applying specifically to 1833, but that that event just happened to be used by God to bring attention to the judgment like God used Litch's error to bring attention to it? I doubt that Pastor Bohr doubts her saying that the falling of the stars was a fulfillment of Bible Prophecy, so why should we doubt when she says that "In the year 1840 ANOTHER REMARKABLE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY excited widespread interest"? The word "another" indicates that she believed that the 1840 prediction was a fulfillment of prophecy, just like the falling of the stars was. Notice carefully that she uses practically the same words about the stars, which are: "THIS PROPHECY RECEIVED A STRIKING AND IMPRESSIVE FULFILLMENT", as she did about the 1840 prediction, which I just quoted two sentences before. In both cases she uses the word "prophecy" and the word "fulfillment", and she uses the word "remarkable" about the 1840 prophecy being fulfilled and the words "striking and impressive" about the falling stars prophecy, which are similar words in meaning. I don't see any other honest way to interpret her words. Here are the paragraphs from Great Controversy (1011 edition) talking about the falling of the stars and, then right after, her words about 1840 also fulfilling prophecy in the Bible. I include the whole section for comparing carefully the previous paragraphs' context of her statement about Litch and 1840: "In 1833, two years after Miller began to present in public the evidences of Christ’s soon coming, the last of the signs appeared which were promised by the Saviour as tokens of His second advent. Said Jesus: “The stars shall fall from heaven.” Matthew 24:29. And John in the Revelation declared, as he beheld in vision the scenes that should herald the day of God: “The stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.” Revelation 6:13. This prophecy received a STRIKING AND IMPRESSIVE FULFILLMENT in the great meteoric shower of November 13, 1833. That was the most extensive and wonderful display of falling stars which has ever been recorded; “the whole firmament, over all the United States, being then, for hours, in fiery commotion! No celestial phenomenon has ever occurred in this country, since its first settlement, which was viewed with such intense admiration by one class in the community, or with so much dread and alarm by another.” “Its sublimity and awful beauty still linger in many minds.... Never did rain fall much thicker than the meteors fell toward the earth; east, west, north, and south, it was the same. In a word, the whole heavens seemed in motion.... The display, as described in Professor Silliman’s Journal, was seen all over North America.... From two o’clock until broad daylight, the sky being perfectly serene and cloudless, an incessant play of dazzlingly brilliant luminosities was kept up in the whole heavens.”-R. M. Devens, American Progress; or, The Great Events of the Greatest Century, ch. 28, pars. 1-5. {GC 333.1} In the New York Journal of Commerce of November 14, 1833, appeared a long article regarding this wonderful phenomenon, containing this statement: “No philosopher or scholar has told or recorded an event, I suppose, like that of yesterday morning. A prophet eighteen hundred years ago FORETOLD IT EXACTLY, if we will be at the trouble of understanding stars falling to mean falling stars, ... in the only sense in which it is possible to be literally true.” {GC 334.1} Thus was displayed the last of those signs of His coming, concerning which Jesus bade His disciples: “When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” Matthew 24:33. After these signs, John beheld, as the great event next impending, the heavens departing as a scroll, while the earth quaked, mountains and islands removed out of their places, and the wicked in terror sought to flee from the presence of the Son of man. Revelation 6:12-17. {GC 334.2} Many who witnessed the falling of the stars, looked upon it as a herald of the coming judgment, “an awful type, a sure forerunner, a merciful sign, of that great and dreadful day.”-“The Old Countryman,” in Portland Evening Advertiser, November 26, 1833. Thus the attention of the people was directed to the FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY (My Note: These are he very same words she uses in the next paragraph concerning Litch and 1840), and many were led to give heed to the warning of the second advent. (My Note: Again, these are very similar words to what she says in the last paragraph quoted below concerning the effect of the preaching of Litch and 1840 affecting many people) {GC 334.3} In the year 1840 ANOTHER REMARKABLE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY excited widespread interest. Two years before, Josiah Litch, one of the leading ministers preaching the second advent, published an exposition of Revelation 9, predicting the fall of the Ottoman Empire. According to his calculations, this power was to be overthrown “in A.D. 1840, sometime in the month of August;” and only a few days previous to its accomplishment he wrote: “Allowing the first period, 150 years, to have been exactly fulfilled before Deacozes ascended the throne by permission of the Turks, and that the 391 years, fifteen days, commenced at the close of the first period, it will end on the 11th of August, 1840, when the Ottoman power in Constantinople may be expected to be broken. And this, I believe, will be found to be the case.”-Josiah Litch, in Signs of the Times, and Expositor of Prophecy, August 1, 1840. {GC 334.4} At the VERY TIME SPECIFIED, Turkey, through her ambassadors, accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe, and thus placed herself under the control of Christian nations. The event EXACTLY FULFILLED the prediction. When it became known, multitudes were convinced of the CORRECTNESS of the principles of prophetic interpretation (My Note: How can Pastor Bohr and others say Litch's view was incorrect, when here she says his and the Millerites' principle to interpret prophetic dates, as illustrated in what happened in 1840, was correct?) adopted by Miller and his associates, and a wonderful impetus was given to the advent movement. Men of learning and position united with Miller, both in preaching and in publishing his views, and from 1840 to 1844 the work rapidly extended." {GC 335.1}

the problem with this Litch prophecy is that we don't have an exact date for the fall of Constantinople, I've been searching for years, doesn't exist. So either way, it doesn't matter if you go with 1844, 1843, 1842, 1841, or 1840 for the fullfillment of end of Ottomon empire, the key is hour of judgement, that date is solid to core. The two can co-exist in Pastor Bohr's rendering

I agree...it would seem to me that many prophecies including those found in Revelation had its historic fulfillment but also a future fulfillment or application at least in principle, example Matthew 24. In the EGW quote you shared appears to indicate that Revelation 11 had its fulfillment in the time of French revolution but also a future fulfillment in the condition of cities at the time of the end. Could it be that the spirit of anarchy, the push for the abolition of civil and social institutions, secularism, and economic inequality and oppression we now see in cities in the US and around the world are depicted in Revelation 11?

The 7 trumpets don't begin to sound until AFTER the events in Rev. 8:3-5. They are given their trumpets right before verses 3-5 and then begin to sound afterwards (8:2-6). Anyone with knowledge of Yom Kippur and the 1844 Investigative Judgement can tell you what happens in verse 5. It is so obvious anyone can see this. All 7 of the seven trumpets happen AFTER probation closes. This puts their occurrence at the same time as the 7 last plagues. Has anyone even bothered to compare the two?

Thank you for your comment. It seems that only a handful of people can see this. Revelation is mostly written for us leaving in the last days of earth history. The Vision in Rev. chapters 4 and 5 parallels with Daniel 7:9-14 the Beginning of the Investigating Judgement and Rev.8:2-5 is the close of probation.

@@alaiatenco6312 Actually Rev. 4 and 5 is the prelude to opening the 7 seals of chapter 6. Those seals pretty much run parallel with the 7 churches of chapters 2 and 3. The close of probation happens between the 5th and 6th seals of Rev. 6

Yes, every prelude in Rev 1-11 gives the starting point for the prophetic outline. Rev 1: 9-20 - prelude to 7 churches. Jesus is ministering in the Holy Place among the candlesticks. 7 Churches begin with the apostolic time. Rev 4, 5 - prelude to 7 seals. Jesus comes to the Father into the Most Holy place. Judgement begins. 7 seals begin in 1844. Totally agree that 5th and 6th seal is the close of probation. Rev 8: 2-5 - Prelude to 7 trumpets. Jesus finishes his administration in the Most Holy Place. Probation is closed. 7 trumpets plagues begin. Trumpets and plagues complement and supplement each other. Plagues tell us What happens and trumpets add the Where, Why, and How it happens. @@alaiatenco6312 I tend to agree with most of what you posted. I disagree that the 7 seals began in 1844 though. I think the 5th seal began in 1844. The 1st seal was the early Christians of the 1st-3rd centuries "going forth conquering and to conquer". The 2nd, 3rd and 4th seals are about the rise of the Papacy and it's 1,260 year rule. Anyway, I think you may be missing something between the trumpets and the plagues. Comparing the events side by side (1st trumpet, 1st plague; 2nd trumpet, 2nd plague; etc) they don't exactly match up with the same events in the same order. The 1st trumpet is hail and fire mingled with blood which burns up 1/3 of the trees and all green grass while the 1st plague is noisome and grievous sores. The 2nd trumpet shows only 1/3 of the seas becoming like blood and 1/3 of all livings things in the seas dying. The 2nd plague is ALL the seas turning into blood and ALL creatures dying in the seas. The trumpets and plagues are similar but not exactly identical. I believe that whatever God can do Satan will have his counterfeit. The 7 angels that were given the 7 vials containing the 7 last plagues are clearly angels from God pouring out God's wrath on sinful humanity. But nowhere does it say the 7 angels with the 7 trumpets are angels from God. Satan will have his own "plagues" to pour out on humanity just for the fun of it.... A nuclear explosion delivered by flying metal machines is shown in the 5th trumpet (Rev. 9:1-12). While the 5th plague is darkness falling on the seat of the beast (Rev. 16:10-11). The 6th trumpet shows 4 angels being loosed while the 6th plague only 3. Though both mention the Euphrates River and the kings/armies of the east.

Revelation has at least 12 errors and contradictions. Here's one of them: *The burning grass* 1st angel _The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and ALL GREEN GRASS WAS BURNT UP._ (Revelation 8:7) vs 5th angel _And it was commanded them that THEY SHOULD NOT HURT THE GRASS OF THE EARTH, NEITHER ANY GREEN THING, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads._ (Revelation 9:4) The author got it wrong. The grass is already burned up.

I like pastor Bohr. His presentations most of the time are so well put and easy to understand but the way he interprets the 7 trumpets is dead wrong. Really need to go back to the writings of Ellen white and the pioneers. For example, the first trumpet can't be about the destruction of Jerusalem. The trumpets fall upon those who persecute God's people. While the Jews did persecute the Christian's, Rome is the focus of prophecy in revelation. The fourth beast of Daniel is the focus. The battle is between God's people and Rome. Thus the first trumpet has to fall on Rome. And then when Pastor Bohr gets to the fifth and sixth trumpet, it is a blatant disregard of the prophetic faith of our fathers. The two prophecies that confirmed the day for year principle was the 1260 year prophecy (Rev 11) and the 150 years/391 years and 15 days prophecy (Rev 9). By Josiah Litch being right on the fifth and sixth trumpet, it was the driving force of the principle for a day = a year in prophecy, which led to the great advent movement about the 2300 day/year prophecy which ended on 1844. By disregarding this prophecy, you disregard the evidence that proved the day for year principle. Also, Ellen white confirms this prophecy along with the other prophecies in the sixth seal, Lisbon earthquake, etc. And the 1844 prophecy. And it is amazing also that when the 6th trumpet ended in 1840, Ellen white says that the first angels message began to sound in 1840 also. Coincident!!? The seventh trumpet has the most holy place opening. Please look at James white and Josiah Litch, Uriah Smith, Alberto treiyer, and Taylor G bunch writing. There are many more people who have so much info on the trumpets. The trumpets have only become confusing because theologians today can't understand how the pioneers came to their interpretation, so they make their own interpretation of the trumpets. The trumpet interpretation of the pioneers were led by God. No disrespect to Pastor Bohr. He is such a man of God but this presentation is wrong

I agree with you on this, Nicholas. I am a big supporter of Pastor Bohr and the vast majority of his presentations are very helpful to me and I agree with him. He upholds the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy well and has been a tremendous blessing to the church. However, on this subject, I believe he has missed the mark, for the reasons you state and more. I have not watched this new series yet, but I have his whole previous set of CD's on the Trumpets in his Revelation study series, and, by the sounds of what you say, he still sticks to the same interpretation he has on that CD set. It is hard to understand why he disregards what Ellen White says about Litch's interpretation. Without Litch's interpretation of the trumpets, there is nothing else in Revelation that leads to 1844. We would only have dates in Daniel for that, but no longer any in Revelation, without the dates given in the Trumpets that Litch found came to the 1840's. Only the 1260 day prophecy is found in Revelation, which only takes us to 1798. The 2300 day, and 1335 day prophecies are only found in Daniel. Thus, by Bohr's doing away with Litch, and the rest of our pioneers', view on the dates found in the Trumpets, he is taking away the only date found in Revelation that leads us to 1844. I find this to be disturbing. I believe Bohr is sincere and has been a great blessing in his upholding truth in the vast majority of his messages, but I think he is trying to squeeze in a too rigid interpretation of the Trumpets, as if they are following the exact pattern of the 7 churches and 7 seals. He wants to make them all cover the same time period from the beginning and that is why he does this. He believes that since The Great Controversy starts out with the fall of Jerusalem, then that means that all three sections of the 7 Churches, the 7 Seals and the 7 Trumpets must start in that time period as well, which is a nice jigsaw puzzle fit, but there is nothing that requires all three to start while Jerusalem was still standing. While it is true that Mrs. White did not talk much about the Trumpets, she does mention, in Great Controversy, Litch's interpretation as coming true, as well as the stars falling and sun turning red and moon dark, as all signs of the coming judgment. Bohr, and some other of our scholars, believe in a strange theory that Litch's interpretation just happened to come true, but it was only something God used to bring attention to 1844, not the actual application of the dates found in Revelation 9. I find this to be troubling. In his interpretation of the interlude found in the Trumpets (which is Revelation 10 through 11:14), before the 7th Trumpet is taken up, Bohr is right on and inspiring as usual. But his interpretation of Revelation 9, which should have explained the true events and dating that lead us to the message in Revelation 10 concerning 1844, destroys the background and dates that lead us to 1844. The date 1844 is not given in Revelation 10, only the event that happened then--therefore that is why we have to look for it in the previous chapter, Revelation 9, which Litch, Uriah Smith and all the other pioneers did in their interpretation of the Trumpets. It is true that Revelation 9 is not easy to interpret, and, another reason that Bohr interprets it as he does, is that the word "Euphrates" is used in Revelation 16 as well, and Uriah Smith believed that since the Euphrates was a symbol of the Muslim world in Revelation 9, then that must mean it also applies to the Muslim world in Revelation 16, which he took to be a literal application for a prophecy that comes AFTER 1844, which led to his view that instead of the Euphrates in Revelation 16 referring to the Papacy (by comparing the 6th Vial of Revelation 16 with the River the Whore of Revelation 17 sits on), it refers to a literal battle in the Middle East between Turkey and Israel, which is more along the lines of what Dispensationalists believe. Since the Turkey interpretation by Uriah Smith of Daniel 11 and Revelation 16 seems to be pretty clear that it won't come true that way, then that must mean that the symbol of the Euphrates, which is literal in Revelation 9, as a marker to indicate where the events portrayed in that section of the chapter would happen, would no longer apply to the literal region of the Euphrates when it is mentioned again in the 7 last plagues of Revelation 17, but, in that time, which comes after 1844, the symbol would be a worldwide application of the symbol. In Revelation 9, the Euphrates is used as a symbol of the power that would keep the Papacy from expanding everywhere, which is what the Muslims did in prohibiting the further spread of it in Europe and the Middle East. But in the last days the symbol of the Euphrates refers to all the powers of the world, not just Muslims, turning against the Papacy and drying up on it so it would not spread anymore. Bohr, while I believe he is right in saying that Uriah Smith's interpretation of Turkey as fulfilling Daniel 11 and Revelation 16, was not accurate, throws the baby out with the bathwater when he says that, to be consistent, we must also not find Turkey in Revelation 9. But, by doing that he throws out the principle that something that was literal at first in the prophecies (such as literal Babylon being referred to in Daniel's image, later turns into a symbol as it applies worldwide. Thus, "Babylon" no longer was a literal city, but spiritually referred to the Papacy in Europe during the 1260 years. It then expands even further after 1844 and, at the end applies to the worldwide threefold union of the Papacy, False Protestantism, and spiritualism found in the last days, not just in Europe, but the whole world. Some SDA's today try to put too much stock into what Muslims will do in the end. This is the mistake Uriah Smith made by saying that it was Turkey, not the Papacy, that is spoken about in Daniel 11:40-45. Bohr, I believe correctly, applies Daniel 11:40-45 to the Papacy, not Muslims and Turkey. He also correctly applies the Euphrates River found in the 6th plague of Revelation 16 and 17 as referring to the Papacy, not Muslims and Turkey as Smith did. Too many SDA's nowadays are looking, like the Dispensationalists, at the Middle East as fulfilling these prophecies. This concerns Bohr, as it does me, so, by his changing the past way we understood Revelation 9, he thinks he is being more consistent. So, I understand why Bohr tries to find a different interpretation of Revelation 9 as he does, to try to make things more consistent with Daniel 11 and Revelation 16-18, but he does not need to if he simply applied the principle that was is the literal nation when the symbols first appear in prophecy, later on, especially at the very end, become worldwide, and no longer just a literal nation in Iraq or the nations in Europe that Rome controlled during the 1260 years. After 1844, these previous symbols become worldwide when used in the later chapters of Revelation. That is how Bohr, correctly (as most SDA's do), interprets the symbol of "Babylon" in the last days. If he could only have done that same thing with the term "Euphrates", then the problem of consistency would have been solved.

Pastor bohr. I highly respect you and listened to a lot of your sermons and used to play organ there at Fresno central. Gotta disagree. Simply for the fact that if the 150 years is a reference to the French Revolution and egw agrees with Josiah Litch on the 391 years for Ottoman Turks then you have the 6th trumpet before the 5th since 1449 (start of 391) comes way before 1798. Doesn’t work that way. I think Uriah smith had it right here. While the symbols are important to study in relation to scripture elsewhere, I think it’s important to not symbolize everything and limit it entirely to papacy or atheism. For example egws has a ringing endorsement of litch and the further connection of smoke, fire and brimstone for example to ottoman bombard cannons seems to mirror Uriah’s hermeneutical style of identification of Saracens for the 5th trumpet. But the most telling error for sure is placing the 150 years (5th trumpet) well after the sounding of the 6th trumpet. 1798 or even 1630s is well after 1449.....
