It's a shame that the Live After Death video edition was filmed at at the time where Bruce was ill. During the European leg and Rock In Rio, Bruce nails every single song!

He wasn't ill. The ridiculous length of the tours from 82-87 destroyed his voice. It was never the same after this, even when he recovered in the early 90's. Maiden were doing 50-80 more live shows per year than other metal bands at the time.

Ehhh I don't know about that. Bruce sounds like he's way out of breath when singing this in the more recent years. His technique is a lot better now though. Like he lets the crowd sing the last bit so he can kind of hit the high note at the end. The performance in this video is pretty good, but his best if you ask me is Chicago in 1984. He doesn't hit the high note at the end (Does a nice scream at the end), but he sings all the lyrics with relative ease. It's a very difficult song that he's always had trouble with live. There's also a version from 1999 when they first got back together where he sounds great.

Lame excuse. - He sang this almost exactly the same on the Live After Death recording, and I suppose they had "P.A. problems" then as well? - Also, I think you'd mean "monitoring problems". - But there was no such thing, he was just fatigued and not able to reach the notes he didn in the studio. - Today he has much better technique and knows how to get the range. Back then he was in his late '20s, never had lessons or coaching, and didn't actually know what he was doing. He was just forcing his voice. But forcing your voice is not how you sing properly.

Guys don't fight. The reason he hits high notes easily nowadays is because he has changed his technique. Back in the day he tried to sing with clean chest voice. Now he's cheating, he puts some throat voice in too and that's why he sounds like squealing. Beast over Hammersmith live is where he was in his total power. Listen at hallowed be thy name in that live and listen to it in latter live shows, even today and you will notice the difference I'm talking about. The singer Bruce Dickinson that you hear in the records existed, but he existed for a short period of time, approximately around 1983. Then his vocal degradation is obvious to anyone who has listened to the same songs in different periods starting from the early days to today.
