my rule of thumb is first of all to obviously focus on one deck. Start with the win condition, then the spells, after that focus on what card has most notable interaction changes (for log bait I chose to max my e-spirit before the knight or goblin gang because it can connect to the tower and survive other spirits as well as making enemy goblins one shot) lastly you would want to focus on the most defensive cards in your deck, because that's when it's crucial for interactions to go your way.

I play a lavaloon deck. Fireball and zapp are my top priorities. A higher level fireball COMPLETELY KILLS A MUSKETEER AND ALL WIZARDS! A higher level zapp COMPLETELY KILLS GOBLIN BARREL, MINIONS AND MINION HORDE, plus some other cards, but these are some of the most important.
