Some of LSU's first string defense were shaken up, sustained injuries, and some second stringers were used in the second half. Yes, it is true the defense is not what it used to be; however, it is my humble opinion that in the recruiting efforts, offense was emphasized over defense.

Ole Miss isn't a bad team, no one has comprehensively beat them, except Alabama and LSU, and Ole Miss still managed to score many points. LSU was coming off a crucial and very emotional road game at Bama. They were on the road again, up by 28 and never in trouble. They were obviously tired and playing flat. The rebs' QB was their only weapon. You don't win many games with just a running qb. What hurts Ole Miss are the sanctions.

It's an illusion that is perpetuated by espn. Sure they have some great defenses come out of the SEC like Alabama Georgia and the rare other team that likes to join in every year but a lot of defensive success comes from some really lackluster offenses for most of the other teams.

I know they say Ohio st has played a tougher schedule from top to bottom, but I just don’t see how. Unfortunately Texas has fallen off the map, but that was a tough opening test for the tigers going into Austin; esp after all the chatter about how the longhorns were back to glory days.
