Present day Chiefs fans may or may not fully appreciate how important the impact of Alex Smith was in mentoring Patrick Mahomes in the early days. We fans are all indebted to Alex - class act.

Him and Reid changed the culture of the team also, which allowed Mahomes to come into a team that expected to win 10-13 games a year. Alex definitely didn't inherit that. KC was like the Jets are now. I believe Andy's first draft pick for KC was the first overall pick in the draft.

I will defend Alex Smith to my dying day! Go ahead and complain, the team was obviously in better hands with Damon Huard, Tyler Thigpin, Brady Quinn, Kyle Orton and Matt Cassel. 🤪

37 years old and been a fan since I was a kid. I remember the days of Priest Holmes, Tony G and that HOF offensive line. I remember Dante Hall, the Human Joystick, the X Factor. I remember the days of Jamaal Charles, the 5 TDs against Oakland, the Jamaalocaust. I remember the awful times as well, wandering in the QB wilderness. The Todd Haley years. 2-14 and Jovan Belcher, the darkest day in franchise history. The year when no receivers caught a TD all season. Losing DT. I also remember the playoff heartbreak, year after year. Lin Elliott, No punt game, 38-10, 6 FGs, forward progress and the Mariota tip TD, Dee Ford offsides. Going more than 2 decades without a playoff win and 50 years without a SB appearance. But now we're in the glory years. This run feels like such a euphoric and satisfying payoff for all those years of heartbreak and dysfunction, of tragedy and ineptitude. Soak it in Chiefs Kingdom.
