I’ve been waiting on a mount I ordered since September of last year. Watching that postal clown mishandle yours has got me nervous. I’m surprised nobody has made a video about the astro gear shortage. I’d definitely expect that comical ball to be thrown in your court. It could be funny in epic proportions. “The real reason why everything is on back order” something along those lines. Glad you got your gear. Sexy. I’m waiting on an EQ6-R. You’d think they would be mass produced considering their popularity. The retail distribution industry is just one excuse with many faces. I’m personally getting sick of being told “2-3 weeks”. Maybe this explains all the bad weather. Too many people ordering crap. There needs to be a national astro week where purchases are banned. That way we can all enjoy clear skies momentarily. Purchasing during the holiday could be punishable by death. We’ll hang the violators with ST-4 cables. Lol

BigDawg mount acquired! I recently went from a Meade LX85 to the Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro. Just the sound alone on the EQ6 compared to the Meade was enough to make it worth it (ok, EQMOD and general performance is about 712% better...). I was worried a neighbour was going to call the police and make a noise complaint against me slewing with that Meade mount... Looking forward to some insane snaps when the weather is nicer to you up your way.

I also just got a new mount, went with the iOptron CEM70 because I take down and setup every time and it's lighter, I also got the Tri-pier and my first night out my guiding (couple night ago in freezing Chicago) was sub 0.6 and I have some tweaking to do so I am super happy! I also agree the tri-pier is plenty stable, once set up it did not budge one bit. Congrats on your new mount, Skywatchers are great mounts as well. I also made sure I was over mounted so I should be set for a very long time with this mount.

Dylan, Congrats on the New Mount!! But Come on, I saw you set that mount onto your wood deck & not on concrete or native surface?? Why? I heard the Gears running, At a retail price of $7,100 US, i would have suggested the Plane Wave L-350 Direct Drive at 10K US and $2k US for there wedge. I have started a Fundraiser for my L-350 and wedge as I personally can not afford to purchase my own at this time. But I will wait, as I cannot afford to keep buying mounts, I know that I would be wasting my retirement money on. I need to get it right as I start up the first time. You and Trevor, Nico and all the others here on You Tube are my Mentors, I have the utmost respect for all you guys Knowledge you share with all of us. I can only hope to become the best we can be in your shadows. Much luv & respect from Carefree, AZ USA Marty.

I just bought an EQ8-Rh. I'm imaging with a C9.25 at 2,350mm focal length and guiding has overshadowed everything. I have an EQ6 Pro mount. I've done a belt conversion, zero backlash conversion, tuned it, and I even built a concrete foundation to put the tripod on and I have managed to get really good guiding, but not good enough for that focal length. I've been dreaming about a serious mount ever since I saw a snapshot of your PHD2 RMS error and an EQ8-Rh was on sale (sorry, it was Testar, so I couldn't use your links!) so I emptied the coffers and went for it. I love high resolution galaxy imaging, so this will be a huge thing for me. I guess I just have to drink cheap Aussie Shiraz instead of New Zealand Syrah for quite a while now...

Practically most default mounts come with a tripod but mortar piers reduce allot of shake because of their weight, and not to mention the legs dont get in the way of the scope but you're more likely to stumble upon a mortar leg BOOM

Wow, grats on the new mount, very nice. Just a point about pier versus a tripod mount. Surely a pier leaves more room in a small dome as you don't have 3 legs to trip over or knock! Other than that, yeah I guess there isn't too much difference between them.

Oh, I don't know; apparently in 12,000 years, Vega will be the NCP and Canopus will its antipodal SCP, both Mag. 0 stars. At least I read that in an article by Bob Berman. That's not meaningless, is it? BTW: really nice scope.
@PetraKann3 жыл бұрын
Unlikely you will get long term stability positioning your mount directly onto the plastic panels you have in your dome. If there is moisture or water leakage issue I would place some concrete plinths or blocks underneath each leg pin of the tripod. You can also include a moisture barrier underneath the blocks. There is significant weight and movement on each point. Cheers (great choice on the mount. my choice also, for my long term needs, but not much cash floating around the house at the moment)
@DylanODonnell3 жыл бұрын
They’re pretty solid / hard whatever they are but the distributed weight should help. I used to have vibration suppression there but it’s usually not needed unless I’m stomping around in there.
