Where do you draw the line of 80-100% open canopy yet leave shade for hot days?

Would you consider oak tops left after logging to provide sufficient cover for bedding?

No.- they break down over time. It might be bedding if the entire area is closed canopy but it’s not going to be well defined bedding

Why would yall recommend 1/2 acre to 1.5 acres in size? Have heard that when u make bedding areas that small then predators will be able to find fawns much easier because they only have to check 1/2 an acre instead of 5-10 acres

Because we’re making them throughout the property. Plus we’re doing tsi on a large portion of the other forested acres and this is prime fawning cover. Yes we have small bedding cuts surrounded by tsi acres and based on recent research we know we’re creating a landscape not conducive of predator use

Far more people would see improvements not having a food plot vs having one if they put effort into other habitat. Deer spend the vast majority of shooting light in bedding areas...even during the rut bucks are cruising from doe bedding to doe bedding. I would rather have a property with great bedding and no food than no bedding and great food. Problem I notice is most hunting property/habitat improvement videos relating to deer hunting start with food plots and not habitat. Also, it is by far the easiest work to due on a property for the most part. If you can get grass to grow a guy can get a throw and grow plot started.

We would like to think our content is more habitat improvement heavy than it is food plot heavy. But both are an important part of any recreational property.
