I have a 1971 Charger R/T 440 4bbl FC7 car. I always wanted a 68 Charger and 70 or 71 Cuda. 68 didn't happen and the Cudas are to far out of reach to own now. The 1971 Charger grew on me and i really love it. Mine needs a complete restoration but it is a driver. My all time favorite Mopars are 71 Cuda and 68 Coronet super bee. I remember the paper route back in the day. When it rained you had to put the paper in the bags and still go our on the bike and hustle. The fun of being a kid. Todays kids will never get that experience.

I almost bought out of a wrecking yard, a '73 or '74 Charger SE with the Brougham interior package and it had a manual crank sunroof. Though a 318 car, it had the Rallye dash, slapstick console shifter with the buckets, ac, a Tuff Steering Wheel and power windows. Literally went down with aired up spare wheels and cash, and at the last minute the owner raised the price on me and I was so ticked I passed on it. Car needed floors due to rust, perhaps patches could have worked. The real shame was it kept being moved by the wrecking yards huge fork lift, and they damaged the rear bumper and tail lights. Then, next time I saw it, it had damaged rear quarters from being picked up real rough yet again. My assessment of the car was that other than the floors being rusty, it had been totally a straight body likely upon arrival at the yard. Wouldn't doubt if the 318 had a problem, and an owner of the car sold it to the yard for peanuts. Car was totally complete, with a sticking put partially functioning sunroof. I would have put a 440/auto in it and called it a day, initially. As I recall, I saw it once, tried to buy it for what I had been told for like $350 or so. Yard owner raised to like $650, and I started seeing damage on rear. I passed, but did come buy 2 more times when in the area and the car started being stripped of the Rallye type cool options. What a shame, it had been saveable. I've probably seen 3 or 4, possibly more, but not many ......of the SE's with just the manual sunroof option. This car being a power roof, really has my attention. I recall this gigantic salvage yard south of Phoenix, that had been there for decades, which had 2 or 3 70's C-bodies with power sunroofs parked right next to each other. Always wanted to save those roofs to graft onto another mopar. Anyhow, on to this car.......

my '74 SE had a sunroof as well- the problem with them is that the rain channels clog up and rust out- I had to change the roof on it as a result- went with a regular non-sunroof lid so I wouldn't have to mess with finding another sunroof. If you find another one I recommend pulling the trigger on it; they are getting more expensive now. $650 for a decent roller is a STEAL

Hey Mark, The '69 Charger S/E is similar to the '69 Charger R/T-S/E I owned from '76-'84. Mine had a 440 single 4 bbl/ 4-spd trans w/ Hurst shifter and a Dana 60 out back. Like the one you'll be restoring, mine was the same color exterior (don't know the right paint name or code) and also had the same color interior with front leather buckets, console and woodgrain trim, and the white vinyl top....sold it to my brother in law for $3500.00 (I paid $2300.00 when I bought it). Enjoy your shows very much, love all the tech-no-nerd knowledge....MoPar to ya!

My Mopar had a Carter Ball and Ball 4 barrel carburetor. Easier for me to rebuild than the Holley. And cheaper rebuild kit. Is there a code for the carburetor?

Allysa great choice on the 71 Dodge Charger R/T 440 (and the bubble gum kid LOL good choice on the 68 too ) I had one 71 and it was dark green F7 with a automatic and it look like a SHARK going down the HWY I bought for a $1000 and I still have a lot of body and interior parts and i just love the front seat look and I junk the body at 21 years of age and was a big mistake and the motor when I bought it was a 383 in it but after that i bought a 1972 Charger 400 pistol grip with a thermal quad carb and I love that carburetor and the things I did with the clutch and gas on light misty nights with friend and they would not ride with me any more and I could slide that car so nice

How rare is a 68 R/T charger 440 with power windows, AC, PS, PB disk, automatic, rally cluster, rear defog, vinyl top, locking gas cap, 8 3/4 posi 2.73 Almost positive the locking cap was factory because the flip top cap was different from non locking ones. I have never seen another factory locking gas cap on a charger. The lock fit inside the filler tube. No I don't have the car still sold it many years ago but recently saw it driving down the road. Still had my Dupont imron dark blue color shifting paint job on it.
