This is car #7 of only 11 Factory North American 1987 Escort 944 Turbo Cup cars.
9 for USA and 2 for Canada. These 2 Canadian Turbo Cup cars raced with full Rothmans Livery in the Escort Endurance 1987 24 Hours at Mosport.
This car #61 raced with the Canadian Le Mans trio Bill Adam, Scott Goodyear and Richard Spenard in the 1987 24 Hrs of Mosport. This Turbo Cup placed 3rd on Grid to start the race and finished in 5th place ( top Porsche) in the huge field of cars at the end of a Grueling 24 hours. These 944 turbo Cup cars are street legal " factory built race cars" built in Weissach Germany by Porsche Motorsport.
From special suspension, Larger brakes to many lightweight parts with many safety features these are not just Rare but very Fast track cars with a top speed of around 180 mph. and sub 5 second 0 to 60 times.
Weight reduction was around 500 lbs less then a Street 944 turbo /951. some say more. HP was 250 to 300HP some tested had more.

Never seen or heard of these. My mom and dad owned 3 944s a 928s and a 911sc. Some of the most reliable cars they ever had.

Thanks for sharing all of the things that make these cars unique. I knew nothing about these before watching. You’ve got a great car there. How’s it drive with manual steering? I couldn’t tell but does it have rear seats? You should do another video while driving. Do the multi camera setup. Thanks again!

I hope to do that some day. Steering when parking is a bit stiff but really not bad. At speed its a dream light tight and precise.

In general at say 100+ how’s the overall stability of the car? Does it feel like it’s floating?

​​​@@jefflebo5836 I do not feel like it is floating very stable car but much different then my 1987 930 hard to describe but both are unique. The turbo cup cars are made to go all out. This partucular Escort was built as an Endurance car for long long races and 6 12 and 24 hours in length so they are strong. Here is a race with the Rothmans turbo cup series cars. Nice car, how big is the turbo lag? From which RPM do you have full boost? I assume full boost is about 1 bar (over atmo.)

Hi the turbo on these 1987 Turbo Cup car is the K26/ 8 . If I recall peak torque is around 4000 rpm

Thanks. Actually the steering wheel on these 944 cars are perfect. I think 360mm nice grip. Much smaller then say the same looking one in the 911 and 930 of same era.
