The Brits and their French friends made sure the MKIV was banned from using the 427 engine. MKIV Was a complete American built race car. Early GT40’s we’re British broadly built cars. The fact that American built race car beating everyone in the 24 hours of LeMans just pissed off the Europeans to the point they banned the pushrod operated dinosaur out of it dinosaur primitive V8 motor that made all those high tech 4 valve motor look silly. We defend them in war. And they ban us at the race track . Like some how they were the real hero’s. I guess they felt American’s were cheating by competing. But how can you be the clear champion if you ban all those who compete against you. If your afraid you can’t beat the competition. Then ban their dinosaur motor that spanked them. 😂

I watched a video about 6-7 years ago that said in 2010s dollars the amount of money Henry Ford the second spent to accomplish that car and the number 1 cars "67" le Mans win was 1 billion us $ likely why Ford pulled the plug on total performance and all factory sanctioned motor sports.

While it’s not the most storied 1967 GT40s, it is the only one that went to Bonneville Salt Flats.

The real story I heard was after the win at LeMans, Enzo Ferrari himself filed a protest to ban 7 litre engines. He certainly made it known at the event verbally, saying the American auto companies were using gigantic 7 and 8 litre engines to dominate the 3 litre engines of the European competitors.

It always seems like these race cars have trouble going slow 😛

Yes, because the engines have a lot of valve overlap, which causes poor low-end power and the first gear is usually longer than on a street car.
@skyraider873 ай бұрын
@@einebrotdose5606they also tend to idle higher because of stiffer valve springs. They're typically sitting at about 1k RPM

That’s tough! These racecars are always hard to price but I imagine it’s in the couple millions!
