Thanks a million from Kolkata, India! Where are such nation builders and great PM's of the British now?...:-( The British race must rise up. It is with sadness I have learnt that British Education Ministry has stopped any teaching of British history pre 20th century :-((( Words cannot describe how foolish, short sighted and dangerous it is.

Before one attacks Rhodes, one must remember the context of the times. For example, Matabele society was not at all fair. It was full of class discrimination, sexist discrimination and even practiced forms of serfdom and slavery. So before one makes claims about Rhodes, remember that if he were a black imperialist (like Shaka), then he would be venerated as a hero, solely on the basis of being non-white. Rhodes was not a nice, but nor was anyone else - at the time. If he is a criminal (in the human rights terms) - then so were the 1000's of tyrants and criminals who ruled Africa before him, and who rule Africa to this day.

ball bust ...Rhodes had the "single greatest deleterious effect on the people of southern Africa of anyone not just of his time but of all time!" So you think that Rhodes caused more harm than than say, a Verwoerd, or a Kitchener? When you say things like that, dont expect people to take the rest of your arguments seriously. Instead of making a convincing argument, you are accusing me of being racist, childish, ect. But if you truly believed I was all those things, you wouldnt bother trying to make an argument - at all (there would be no rational point). So either you dont believe that, or you believe that I made some valid points, and are using name calling only because those points conflict with your world view.

I was born in (Southern) Rhodesia too many years ago and grew up revering Cecil John Rhodes. My thinking has evolved drastically across the years. Today I try to look at ALL us humans, realizing our universal beauty and giftedness and yet at the same time, how full of hubris and self-propelled aggression we are, whether we're at the top or the bottom of the human heap. I long for a heart -- a mentality or world-view -- that sees us all as we actually are: one homogenous heap; even with all our seething and boiling. As long as we go forth conquering and to conquer, hating and counter-hating we sentence ourselves to individual and collective misery. The phenomenon of Cecil Rhodes and what he believed in -- what drove him -- is new only in it's colonial and thus global applications and implications. With Rhodes, the ancient, primitive supremacy "ideals" took on frightful, even staggering international implications for the future of the whole human race. More humility, respect and yes, loving one another ... this is a both a daunting and an indispensable ideal -- the only one that will actually work.

Taking what’s not yours is called stealing. It’s a bad thing. Enslaving other humans is very very cruel and highly immoral. Thinking yourself to be superior to other people is called pride. And it’s always in your head. Not a fact. We are all equal and we should respect one other and love one another despite our obvious differences.

He told them that they were the possessors of a magnificent tradition of education, beauty, rule of law, freedom, decency, and self-discipline, but this tradition could not be saved, and did not deserve to be saved, unless it could be extended to the lower classes in England itself, and to the non-English masses throughout the world."-- Tragedy and Hope , page 130, Carroll Quigley. "We must find new lands from which we can easily obtain raw materials, and at the same time exploit the cheap slave labor that is available from the natives of the colonies. The colonies would also provide a dumping ground for the surplus goods produced in our factories."attributed to Cecil Rhodes

I hate how that in movies, confrontations of mob justice always end with public words. This doesn't work. People who are proven wrong will hold their ground against people they deem to be "lesser", in some way or another. Progress is always done behind closed doors where both parties can come to save face, or at least trade face for future gain. "Oh I guess he showed me!" DOESN'T HAPPEN.

Osawemwen Eglebor - That statement looks a bit racist old boy. You could ask why Africa should belong to one set of people when you consider that all human life supposedly started there. Since the human race has dominion over the earth then it really should be in the possesion of those who can run it properly as Rhodes pointed out in his opening statement. One looks at the achievements of Robert Mugabe in this respect.

Should the value of a man be measured by the pursuit of wealth and accolades, then Cecil Rhodes would undoubtedly be paralleled by only the greatest of those whom envision life's purpose similarly. Should the value be of morality and compassion then perhaps the length of his life was diminished in direct proportion. When reflecting on this mini series I can say that his desire for self promotion was only exceeded by that of his ego in pursuing those desires. A man who appears to have great insight and intuition which chooses to search for the glitz of gold and diamonds. A drive for the expanse of colonial Britain that is superseded by his disdain for the country's nearsightedness. A desire for the growth of civilized society only to ruthlessly destroy lives through the proclamation of war and the repression of those dissimilar to himself. His words, actions, and methods were all in contradiction for the sole purpose of self glorification and power. If Cecil Rhodes is exemplified as one of the greatest men in history (a legend) then society must alter its views on what it means to be the greatest species on the planet.

Men say, "We are all alone, and there is none beside us." Woe unto those who give themselves over to wickedness. The life of comfort and worldly riches, either inherited or taken by force and exploitation, all come to an utter and spiritually frightening end. Let it also be known that God's chosen are still alive to this day, and they are the trendsetters that all others in the world strive to be like. The black man is and was once the true ruler of all the world, and all the riches therein belonged to them, when those of the race of cecil rhodes lived in caves, ate raw flesh, and fornicated like sick, diseased, and unclean animals. He was a racist & openly stated the whole world should be ruled by the English ... if you're English he said, you've won first place in the lottery of life. Like Columbus he was also about rape & pillage, “We must find new lands from which we can easily obtain raw materials and at the same time exploit the cheap slave labour that is available from the natives of the colonies. The colonies would also provide a dumping ground for the surplus goods produced in our factories” Cecil Rhodes. He was the beginnings of the New World Order they keep telling us about today. Funding the perpetuation of that dream with stolen African diamonds. As always these histories THEY, the criminals, write, with all the mass genocide, torture, cruelty, slavery and racism left out. They are refined liars, twisting and manipulating laws to suit themselves, creating treaties to 'legally' grab all the lands ... driving off the real owners.

Interestingly Rhodes is portrayed as gay. It was a mania of the 70s-90s to do it to historical figures despite lack of evidence. Especially. It was used in support of a negative portrayal of the person so obviously this tactic isn't used nowadays but it was used in a dishonest, inaccurate and slandering miniseries The Last Place on Earth (also with Martin Shaw who actually apologized for being in it).

It's thanks to this great man that many coloured people today no longer have to live like animals. Our Lord Jesus said "God's will be done on Earth as in heaven". So now English is the global language of Earth, as it is with the angels above. I'm sure most people are aware that the word "English" comes from angel. I'm sure it's no coincidence that English is the only language spoken on a heavenly body, ie. the moon.

The story is that Pope Gregory inspecting the new stock Y Rome's slave market came across some blond haired, blue eyed specimens and asked who they were. The answer was "Angles", and the response "Non Angli sed Angeli / No, not Angles', but Angels". Probably apocryphal, but I have no evidence to support angelic leanings among Angles, Saxons or Jutes.

Millin can also be borrowed there .. do need to be discriminating in the books though.. many were written by ppk who neither knew or worked w/ Rhodes & used less than reliable source material and /or wander from facts into personal assumptions abt Rhodes based on what looks to be preconceived notions abt the man

They came to South Africa to supply the Dutch East India men sailing to the East Indies. They were not alone,. And there was no hatred etc. The native population in the 17th century was confined to Hottentots who were nomadic and no threat. The Bantu came into contact with the Boers in the early 19th century when the Boers were travelling north and the Bantu South. They were a threat -;a very real threat - and hatred is bred by fear.

You really should specify -- which Black African leader are you referring to? With so many wars of conquest and genocide and atrocities committed and (gasp) keeping of slaves throughout the history of that part of the world (up to and including the present day) we don't have any idea to whom you refer. Also, what does your comment have to do with a video about the man who created the "Breadbasket of Africa" -- (or at least it was until the communists and their "useful idiot" minions in the West screwed it up for the entire continent.)

Ally Soobratty In order for the African Continent to be successfully borderless we need to understand that this idea which is at the moment what it is, we have to understand the complexities in context of modern history, we ignore the issues which will arise at our peril which is what we in African Diaspora have been doing for too long a time. I have got no time for dashiki wearers or quasi historians who think they know Africa when the clearly don't. there needs to be skilled people who can make a borderless Africa a reality.
