I am an ELCA from South Carolina. Today (August 13), we celebrated Homecoming and the 175th anniversary of our parish. 1 Peter 2:1-9 was our New Testament Lesson (or Epistle) of the Day.

Israel is not the state of Israel. Israel are composed of the remnants (Isaiah 11:11), the children of Jacob and the seed of Abraham (Psalms 105:6). The Chosen people are defined as afflicted and poor (Zeph 3:12, Isaiah 48:10), forsaken and desolate (Isaiah 62:4), tossed with tempest (Isaiah 54:11), a nation (1 Peter 2:9), in their own land (Ezekiel 37:14), from the East - Asia (KJV Isaiah 2:6), called “the islands” (Isaiah 41:1-8, 49:1, 60:9). No other nation in Asia Pacific where storms comes fits the descriptions better than the Christian country of the Philippine Islands surrounded by heathen countries. Philippines is called out of darkness (surrounded by heathen nation’s) into God’s marvelous light. Philippines is Jerusalem (Psalms 125:2, 135:21).
