Green/black shirt guy is very athletic. Combined with his aggressive game, I can see how he was so dominant at the 5.0 level. The blue shirt guy was not as athletic and didn't play an aggressive style, but he is sneaky good. He played the percentages and picked his spots to go for shots. When he did go for his shots, they were impressive. Both seemed to have good serves... Good match!

Very interesting. You can see the level difference. The guy wearing green/black looks like he’s the better player because of his aggressive style but the guy wearing blue shows that he is more experienced because of the way he play his shots. The shot selection of the guy wearing blue is much better that’s why he can neutralize and get his opponent wrong footed.

Another good one. Looks like the black shirt/D2 player's forehand is more WTA-like than an ATP modern forehand (not a criticism, just an observation... it's working for him.) A couple highlights -- the return at 2:20, and the pretty cross-court backhand slice at 3:50. Well done, each of you.

@UserIsM4 жыл бұрын
R M most of the time women have better form and more efficient strokes than men as they do not have enough man power behind the ball. Take the forehand for instance, they make up for this with their impecable form and a further swing back which if done by a male tennis player would be a killer forehand. However, male tennis players are not as flexible stopping them from doing this. Therefore, saying his forehand is similar to that of a WTA is a very good compliment
@geoffhamann88444 жыл бұрын
@@UserIsM this couldn't be more incorrect. The women have a bigger takeback of the racquet to make up for the lack of physical strength. When they take the racquet back, you can see the head of the racquet on the other side of their body. This doesn't do much to increase power but it does pose problems with timing and accuracy. Stosur is the only woman I can think of that doesn't use the exaggerated takeback of the racquet, probably because she's so strong. I think a lot of the women could improve their game if they changed this aspect of their stroke.

The blue shirt has very compact, close to the body strokes that give him a lot of control. It's hard to believe he finds any power at all, but it seems to be there when needed. He anticipates where the ball is going to be next very well, reminds me of McEnroe that way. McEnroe often appeared to be casually walking around the court to the next shot against flat power hitters with his superior anticipation.

It not how hard but how well placed every shot is hit. You can vary net clearance and spin but hitting deep will push your opponent back. It’s not about knocking them out with a couple of hard shots but setting your self up by being consistent with deep shots to get a short return or drawn an error from opponents. Also a good opponent will be able to absorb multiple hard shots and might even like to use your own pace against you to counter punch with a hard shot on the return.

@@PaulMacklinAmazing it sounds like you are in good hands! Awesome to hear that you are still playing. Do you compete in any events?
@PaulMacklinAmazing4 жыл бұрын
@@PURETENNISsense It's a long story but in brief I don't compete. I suffer a bit of anxiety that makes competition less than enjoyable. Also there is so much to this glorious sport beyond the competition. Tennis is a wonderful kinesthetic and strategic dance and it can really be enjoyed as a collaboration betwee two players working together to make each other better. That's what I do each day with my tennis partner who is 15 years younge than me. We do about a 1.5 hour workout most days and focus on building our skills. We dont serve ( a great way to preserve my back) and we focus rather on producing long rallies working the ball towards each other for the first 4-6 hits and then it inevitably turn into into a 'point' where we play it out to 'win'. We don't keep score. Both or our games have improved dramatically over the past 4 years that we've been playing together. Tennis is the highlight of my day, a real meditation. Lots of people can't understand why we don't want to compete - they want to know who is the better player etc. To us it's irrelevant. Some think we're 'just' hitting to each other. But it's not like that at all- we work really hard, often long rallies played a full capacity and capability - it's about doing all we can to improve ourselves nad each other without the interference of competiing egos, score keeping or needing to be better than each other. I'm as happy if my partner makes a great shot as when I do. It's a joy.

Black had a tough first game, playing pretty well, but blue just had an answer. Black’s tactic vs blue was good, can’t really ask anymore of him. Blue is so steady, forcing black to make errors.

Casinowiz steadiness appears to be a consistent theme among viewers. Blue has that Pete Sampras look between points. It’s as if he’s thinking of his next plan. Black shirt has an unreal serve form. I don’t know how he bends so much but it looks awesome.

D1 player in blue was hiting from 4-8 feet behind the baseline. It was clear in the beginning he was not going to beat you with agility or fitness. First, recognize he will beat you in extended rallies. Second, move him up and back and angles wide. Hitting looping topspins so he can comfortable hit behind the baseline is exactly what he wants from you. I'm not saying you would have beaten him. Recognize their Plan A. Never let your oppenent beat you with their Plan A. And, accept a player was just better than you when they beat you with their Plan B.
@draxtini66474 жыл бұрын
It’s clear that blue shirt was coached by a D1 coach with his effortless and smooth game. He wasn’t too aggressive too often which really kills some of his points. Black shirt had a very strong approach to all of his shots and played really well. He definitely needs to work on his returns. Also is really good at giving the heat but once it’s coming at it seems like he crumbles.
@PURETENNISsense4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great observations and feedback (I am black shirt). You are absolutely right! It was tough to return his serve as he serves like a true lefty and uses the disguise/pace/spin to his advantage. What's hard to see is the speed of the court, they are kind of fast. This proved tough as well during rallies as his balls when through the court really well and kept me on defense. He has a pretty high caliber serve and would definitely take at least a set to get used to. Thanks for watching and the constructive comments!
@iceescape4 жыл бұрын
Blue Shirt had really great control over the ball; he seemed a bit slower than Black shirt but was able to control pretty much all of the points with his ball placement rather than pace. It seemed like Black Shirt had to play pretty high risk tennis to win his points. Both had really nice ground strokes.
@TennisTrollChannel4 жыл бұрын
iceescape that’s a good observation. It appears black shirt had to put in a little more effort to win. That could be from many variables including style. Nadal always looks like he had a war on tennis court but Federer doesn’t appear to even sweat.

While he played some powerful shots, the guy in black (D2 player) was very passive at the baseline and didn't really try to change up his shots at all (i.e., change direction, height, depth, etc). Kinda let his opponent dictate where the point went. A little surprised he was that successful in college ball.

Blue shirt his a very powerful drive. I"m guessing it has more to do with how good blue shirt as he did play at a nationally ranked D1 school.

Black/green shirt could really improve his game if he worked on his defensive backhand - going with the splice probably feels safer when the ball is at the top of its rise but it needs some work to improve the percentage. If he could get on top of those shots a little quicker, I think his 2H backhand would work better for him, especially if he gives it some depth and loft so he has time to get back into position.

That doesn't mean the blue shirt won the set, but it wouldn't surprise me. Granted, there were several balls I couldn't tell if they were out or in.
