So much can be learned from using trail cameras and not just deer movements. Pretty cool to see how all wildlife use the place including bears, rabbits, grouse , turkeys, etc. Watching a buck work a scrape on video is also a great learning experience. Keep em coming Jeff!!

This is so true Jeff!! You have to be honest with yourself!! Can’t always blame it on neighbors or DNR. That may be part of it, but a lot is how you access and hunt your property.

When hunting time was a limited commodity because of career demands I used trail cams to maximize opportunities in relationship to the time I had to hunt. Then I retired and had all the time in the world, so time management wasnt a concern and I really enjoyed time in stand. I know the funnels where the deer travel, and I know eventually they all come through there, so I didnt need the cams anymore. So I see both sides of the 'trail cam' question

I start running trail cameras now for yote locations to trap. I get a lot of bobcat pics to but can’t take those in Ohio. I like just seeing a nice buck camera gives me incentive to go out. I got one of our 5 yr old 8s this year just because we saw him out in one field regular. Several of our nice bucks are camera shy. They don’t like the flash. Get one pic and never see it on camera again. Thanks for info Jeff!

This is our 2nd yr hunting our new place. We have alot of mature deer and big deer. We get several 150’s on cam. Had a few 170’s. My son shot a 152” this yr. I love trail cams but i will never let them dictate weather or not to hunt. I waited this yr waiting for the cam to show me if the bucks were there or day light and it was slow. When we hunted we saw deer that was. Not on cam. My son shot his buck 20 yds away from the cam but not on it but he was on our cams and was daylighting

Well, we have no fields in most of the country and every state I've lived in down south will write you a citation for harassing wildlife if you drive around spotlighting.

I hunt all public and no trail/cell cams. I hunt the signs and pretty da-mn tough just to see some does 😂. But i enjoy hunting like that too. I hunt hard hardwoods looking for transitions and pinch points.

My trail camera's are my tool that tells me what in that area and to know where they are moving from and to. I have a 100acres and it helps me to know where most of them live and where they like to go and im lucky that my neighbors on both sides we talk about the deer we see on camera's so there is 300 acres in all that i get to watch. 👍

Couldn’t agree more.I have a buck here that will be 6 if he made it.And that’s rare here.Have a bunch of 2 year old running still.That shift in early fall?A lot of the deer I watch all summer disappear.

My dad and I just bought 100 acres with no history of gunting from the last owners. I have two cell cams and two non cell cams. Were simply trying to deterime the herd size and ratio. The property is a blank canvas. They sure help.

I see lots of people on social media that post pictures of big bucks that are always coupled with "how can I get him to show up during the day" or whatever and they never shoot that buck, their neighbor does. because they think deer are robots.

Jeff, what does it mean if Im seeing more bucks every day on my food plots than does. This time of year?
@stevenschmidt5712Күн бұрын
I’ll add historical data to the mix. From year to year you get a great picture of where mature bucks like to be at different times of the year. That’s great big buck killing data. Like you said ALONG with setup, wind direction, proper entrance and exit strategies and all the rest that a good hunter should use.

If nothing else, cameras have allowed me to know what deer are around before I ever hit the woods which makes it so much easier for me to pass bucks that really need more time to age. Without cameras, field scouting may not reveal everything which may lead to sunken expectations and an immature buck suddenly looking real good. Unless you have a cell cam setup a few hundred yards away and you run out with a gun to cut it off when you get the notification, I don’t understand the feeling some have. Other than just plain jealousy in having them and being able to use them.
@tyfode224Күн бұрын
Yep, I hunt big woods and low deer numbers. Trail cams play a big part in my all year scouting. I don't rely on cameras to kill a deer, like some will say, Cheating in other words. I only hunt mature bucks now because anything less has just become to easy! But where I hunt, just finding older age class bucks to hunt is a real challenge!
@shanewillaimsКүн бұрын
Those trail cameras will lie to ya too. I’ve had bucks avoid them or cell didn’t take the pic and look on a regular cam close by and bucks be on it

I just see anything new in this video! Hunters are smarter than you are giving them credit for! We have pretty much figured this chit out on our own, years ago! Pretty elementary…

A LOT of old timers still claim cell cams are the devil and a LOT of hunters don't use the cams wisely. BIf the shoe doesn't fit, no need to get upset, you just ain't Cinderella on this one. Pretty Elementary...

Cell cams on public are becoming a plague! Guys put 12+ out casting a wide net the. Narrow in on the best bucks. If I find a scrape without a camera on it in Wisconsin it’s almost unbelievable. A lot of times I look extra hard and sure enough I finally spot the cam 10ft up a tree camo’d in. Cell cams are getting out of hand. They should limit the number of cameras one can implement or altogether ban them on public land.
@ta-tonka1175Күн бұрын
Without the use of trail cameras, its almost 80% luck. Yes, you still need to hunt correct times, location, wind, but you'll never know what actually exists to what non camera users know exists for bucks. And yes the baby boomer era of hunters is the "know everything about hunting ". Camera hunters still need to understand pictures, why you got the pictures. Still reqires lots of work determining why you got the pictures. How many times do you wanna see the target buck? Before you harvest him? If i dont kill in under 6 hunts... that buck is almost 99% gonna live another year. FYI i dont worry about the neighbors
@rohlfing63Күн бұрын
It's 80 percent luck for those who don't invest the time in other forms of scouting, developing better woodsmanship skills, etc. Most folks have adopted trail cams as a shortcut and neglect the investment in skills to be a truly effective hunter.
