Hi Sam, I learn a lot from your videos, thank you for the information. My property in PA was logged in 2017. The south slope was over taken by multi flora rose.
@PFHabitat14 күн бұрын
@garyfuhrman9468 shoot, sorry to hear that. We don't have MFR where I'm at thankfully

I hate multifloral rose! The deer love to brouse on it and you can too, also use the rosehips for tea. Ends of the stems taste pretty good! The Missouri Dept Conservation has an excellant short article on which sprays you can use that doesn't hurt natives so bad< I just spray or mow them but I left enough trees that it wasn't a huge problem . Good luck!

I have the same situation after 1 year of logging. There’s lots of trash but the deer manage to go through it. Your trails are what I need to work on this year. Fighting invasives now but making progress. Amazing amount of spotted touch me nots in mine. Deer love it. Looking forward to the coming years.

Trails would be a great idea. They're a lot easier to do before the woody regen really starts to get thick

Would like to see how thick it looks in the winter. And question when you clear cut. Is there a certain height that you leave the stumps or do you cut them flush to the ground
@PFHabitat14 күн бұрын
In my next video I'll be standing in this area for a portion of the video. I shot the video a week ago. I tend to flush cut pretty close to the ground with a few higher, chest level cuts mixed in for higher stump sprouting, overhead cover

Looks great! For perspective, how many acres were you showing?
@PFHabitat12 күн бұрын
@longranger99 this wood lot is around 12 acres
@longranger9912 күн бұрын
@ Great! Thanks. I have about a 10 acre area that I want to create something similar as yours.
@PFHabitat12 күн бұрын
We have 5 different wood lots on our farm and they're all around 10 acres. It's crazy how many deer they can hold now even though they're just 10 acres.

Your stem count is amazing. it does take a few years to start growing and get the visual. Im in year 2 and you can see the little saplings coming up and the stem count will be very high. probably will have to cut trails through
@stevedenoyer595614 күн бұрын
do you use ground clear on your trails?
@PFHabitat14 күн бұрын
Yes in a couple years you should have great bedding structure. Yes ground clear works very well for trails and spraying out deer beds
@ClintBentley14 күн бұрын
Did you remove the tops and all of then"rubble" after it was logged?
@PFHabitat14 күн бұрын
Nope, just the logs. Left the tops
@kevinholstine671514 күн бұрын
What did you use to attack the Canada Thistle that you talked about? What chemical? When did you spray? Multiple treatments? I've had a horrible time with that at my place so appreciate any help.
@PFHabitat14 күн бұрын
I just let the woody stuff out compete the thistle. In my open areas where I treat it I use stinger which works well
@bvsproductions902115 күн бұрын
We just logged our woods in Michigan last year. It was all 10’ tall poke weed. Will that eventually get shaded out as well?
@PFHabitat15 күн бұрын
The woody stuff always seems to win eventually so I would be confident it would. Pokeweed is a nice native to have though while you're waiting for the woody regen to come

Yes sir. Just cut trails and pockets through it post-logging
