You know what'd be a fun twist on this format? Play all the variations first, so the audience has to guess, before revealing at the end what original riff you're working from.

Genesis!! That was a great surprise. I still close my eyes and try to guess through the bands. I was proud to get Fear Factory. Korn was a bit easier to pick out along with Pantera. But so many others were a challenge. Great playing sir!

IMO the Protest The Hero riff could have been played at a much faster tempo, the Messhua riff sounded like old school Tesseract, the Genesis riff was inspired by the song ABACAB(nice choice Pete's Mom!)

I'd like to ask any kind soul in the comments for musical advice: I appreciate many of these metal riffs while I barely know any of the bands' music, aside from some fear factory tunes, and a7x which I tried but don't like. Would you suggest me some albums I could try, to get to know these guys? For reference, my metal taste is some early thrash, stoner doom, sludge/southern, some classic stuff like Pantera whom I well know, black sabbath, I also like some prog and I don't mind some djent.
