Thanks, yeah most people don't teach or think of chord construction this way, but when you do, it's super easy. You're not starting over at 1 for every new chord or key. You're just plugging in the info to the pattern of 3rds.

Yeah, it's a really easy way to remember your 3rds. An even easier way is thinking: GBD (say it really fast it's easy to remember) and FACE - that's the order of 3rds. So GBD - FACE

You still need to know everything individually 😀 but this method helps organize it so you can use it really quickly.

@@ScottPaddock Thanks. Major and Minor scales are important, with this method is easier to fill in the gaps in between. I find it easier with numbers than the actual note letter. Thanks for all your videos. I'm an adult sax beginner and your videos are to the point and what I practice with every day.

This is really helpful stuff, as usual. Is there somewhere you have set out the general 'formulae' for the main chord qualities you are talking about (so which notes you need to flatten or sharpen to get minors, major sevenths etc)? You mention some of them in your examples, but I need to learn them by heart alongside this pattern...

@@ScottPaddock I've found a better way to fall asleep. Instead of counting sheep I recite the C chord tones front to back. Why's it harder to count backward?

I was using an elaborate mnemonic with each letter a word. You could go D FACE GB it's not politically correct a bit sex pistols but that's my mnemonic. Cheers man outstanding skills you have.
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 5 жыл бұрын
Haha! I tell students: GBD - FACE. Because GBD is really easy to say super fast, and then FACE is a word. But whatever works for you!

I am not understanding. Can you explain what is a third.
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 4 жыл бұрын
The interval of a 3rd. So in your C scale: C D E F G A B C (C to E would be a 3rd.... D to F would be a 3rd.... E to G would be a 3rd... etc)

Pentatonics aren't chords. They are a condensed version of the scale. I'll do a video on them in the next week or so.
