As we all know, there are many great teachers and other people who know their stuff willing to help and share their knowledge for beginner players and people who play well but want to improve and diversify. But out of all these people I've just mentioned, Scott is my favourite player of all in terms of the sound and tone he gets out of his horn, as well as his phraseology.

I assume that knowing the chords just a step towards improvisation? So if I see say a G7, am I just improvising on those four notes or do I have more latitude?
@ScottPaddock3 күн бұрын
Knowing the chord gives you the answer to what scale to use. The 4 chord tones are the main notes in that scale. For example, a G7 tells you the chord tones are GBDF, and that the scale that you can use to improvise over that chord is G mixolydian: GABCDEFG. I go over this step by step in the improv section in my Sax School if you want to some guidance.

Absolutely!!! He also does a thing that sounds like an overtone where you finger a high A, and add 123 in your right hand to get a different timbre A. He uses this a lot!

Thus far, you are the ONLY teacher talking about the two embouchure methods. Most completely miss this differentiation. And you are the first I have heard from that is teaching to do one initially and then later on to transition to the other method. This is enormously helpful. And this is the first lesson I have seen where the instruction involves rolling the lower lip out some but not all the way off the top teeth. This is great, just what I needed as I have begun working on the lip out method this past week, thanks alot.
