So INNengine, is a pioneering company in engine technology, and they have developed two groundbreaking concepts: the e-REX and the REX-B. These engines feature the INNengine patented 1Stroke technology, offering significant advantages over traditional 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. With improved power, efficiency, compactness, and reduced emissions, the INNengine 1Stroke engines are poised to revolutionize engines in various applications, including range extender systems, aviation, power generators, maritime propulsion, and hydrogen applications.
So how does it work? Well The INNengine’s 1Stroke Technology is based on a unique design that enables four times more power events per revolution compared to a conventional 4-stroke engine and twice more than a 2-stroke engine. By eliminating the crankshaft, valves, camshaft, and cylinder head, the 1Stroke engine achieves remarkable reductions in size and weight, making it highly compact and lightweight. According to them one of their units will be twice as powerful as a traditional 4 stroke engine whilst being 70% lighter and 55% smaller.
The INNengine's unique 1Stroke engine design combines the efficiency of a 4-stroke engine with the simplicity, compactness, and power of a 2-stroke engine. This innovative engine operates on a system of two identical/reciprocal cam-tracks, which define the engine's cinematic properties. These cam-tracks project onto a hollow and split main shaft.
The engine utilizes an opposed-piston configuration, where two piston groups work in tandem. The linear stroke of the pistons is transformed into rotational movement by interacting with the cam-tracks. This interaction also controls the opening and closing of exhaust ports before intake ports, enabling efficient uniflow scavenging.
The INNengine's design allows for a variable compression ratio without requiring complex double crankshaft solutions. Instead, the shifting device, controlled by the engine control unit (ECU), adjusts the axial position of the inner shaft. This offset angularly modifies the cam-track profile, dictating both the distribution and compression ratio as per demand.
Despite having cylinder ports like a 2-stroke engine, the INNengine's operation is fundamentally different. The combustion chamber of the 1Stroke engine has two combustion events per revolution, which is four times more than a 4-stroke engine and provides double the power of a traditional 2-stroke engine.

Hydrogen is not the solution, there are too many trade offs when it comes to the containers in which you have to store it, because they have to manage very high pressure and H² is highly corrosive, so it's all not that easy and efficient in the end. The question is: Can this engine burn diesel? Hemp and maybe some other plant oils are the more realistic solition for reneawable fuels, imo.
@franzabramowski6341
@franzabramowski6341 Жыл бұрын
@griffint6637 never heard of that ammonia solution, have to look into that. Thanks for the input. Keep in mind that hemp also grows in great abundance and is just hard to come by due legal restrictions. It grows in almost every climate with little water, no fertilizer and no pesticides. It just needs to be harvested and pressed in an ordinary oil mill and can be stored in any container from metal to plastic. Not to mention that you gain other resources such as fibers, eatable leafs and animal fodder in the process. I would still agree that it's not the one and only solution, so a mix of both hydrogen and hemp oil is probaly the most realistic, depending on the local circumstances.

Thanks for bringing this engine to our attention. I really believe that hydrogen fuel can be the answer to the future’s engine demand. The reciprocating piston engine delivers the most power per fuel capacity. And , now this engine appears to be answer to the power supply. Brilliant design! Hope it can be sourced for a large project to give it more exposure. Power on !

Hydrogen is not fuel. It is just an inefficent battery. Hydrogen is common only chemically bounded in more complex molecules. Atomic hydrogen does not exist in planetary nature. To get it, you must pour energy to break the bounds. Whatever thing you do with the resulting atomic hydrogen (but nuclear fusion of course) will never give back the energy spent to break the chemical bounds in the first place. Because of entropy. Laws of phisics, immune to ideology. Moreover, hydrogen is dangerous and expensive to store. Want to use gas as fuel? Use methane, or propane, or butane. All easy to extract or produce, easy to store, very little or no burning residuals, perfect for piston engines. However, regarding aeronautical engines, liquid fuel will always beat gaseous fuel, because of the added weight of a pressure tank. To make an aircraft uselessly heavy because of dumb ideology is hardly an improvement. Jet engines and kerosene are just fine. This said, the one stroke engine idea is worth consideration: it is a funny, cool concept unfortunately flawed by the obvious mechanical weak point of the waved disc replacing the rods and crankshaft. 4 times the power you said? Yes, at equal revs. A two stroke will rev happily over 10.000 rpm, a modern four stroke over 15.000 rpm. Rev the one stroke engine near these regimes, and it will wear very rapidly, accumulate play, start vibrating and disassembling itself. As it is, fueled with methane, this motor could maybe be a cool, compact range extender, surely cleaner than a gas turbine (that would be my suggestion for a generator, if a simple 4 stroke engine is out of question because of ideology). Using a product for several years instead of scrapping it because of ideological whitch hunting, prevents useless pollution as well: just saying. Efficent catalyzators solved most of the problem 20 years ago. Modern petrol engines are robust, long lasting, unexpensive, efficent, clean and dependable. To stop making ICEs because of false technical dogmas, and replace them with battery operated systems or cumbersome "alternative" engine systems, just because of the push of ideological legislation will only increase costs and overall pollution.

Yes it’s already being produced in volume in a factory. In Manchester. I hoped to find out more about it as it’s worth investing some money in. I was aware of it two years ago. It’s also being laid out by the government’s investment, hence you see all the gas pipes being lined with the yellow plastic, it’s going to be a mix of normal gas and hydrogen through the pipeline very soon as most manufacturers of boilers. Have a conversion kit to run on hydrogen and gas ready for £300 conversion.

I still see two strokes.... The pistons move one way, then another. There's a compression and power stroke. That's two strokes. It will need supercharging to get combustion air into the cylinders. VW has settled on 500cc per cylinder engines, which with tuning, can make 100hp per cylinder, using 4 strokes. If converted into 2 stroke, it would be closer to double. But, once you adjust for the energy density difference between hydrogen and gasoline, you'll see why the hydrogen 2 stroke gets 120hp.

Nice vid. Nice engine. Actually it is 2stroke 2firing per revolution engine. If you look deeper, the construction is actually Junkers Ju88 plane diesel or 5TD,5TDF,6TD,3TD tank diesel made axial. There was also similar british single crankshaft many levers motor. Getting rid of 2 crankshafts and making small powerful and lightweight engine is super nice. But it is 2stroke with some small inevitable oil pollution. Maybe we can just tolerate that? And using hydrogen in internal combustion engines dates back to at least WWII times. Problems with hydrogen are low energy density and detonation. It is known how to mitigate either of them but simultaneously? Will not it be just toooo expensive in the end?
@yahyahasan335
@yahyahasan335 Жыл бұрын
exactly, the hydrogen solution isn’t exactly viable right now and people don’t really understand that. As proven by the toyota mirai you need a fuel cell that the hydrogen powers as the amount of hydrogen you would need to power a stand alone hydrogen engine leaves virtually no space in the car. So at best, the current application would just be a range extender. I also felt that this video was misleading as no mention of torque was included 😂😂. With no crankshaft there’s significantly less torque and it’s unknown how that curve actually is affected!! To prove that I noticed the mx5 had a supercharger of sorts which was a means of forced induction and therefore it’s almost like the peak torque is at very high rpm. Therefore instant torque from a battery would be best suited to this application imo and so it would be cheaper to just buy an ev. I guess the marketing should focus on the lightweight for now as the issues are addressed and technology advances!!

I don't see where it has what I consider 'two stroke' problems. It will need forced induction, and probably cylinder scavenging. The real problems with two stroke is they need to have oil injected into the fuel stream to help lubricate the engine and that makes it difficult to control engine emissions. i don't see that as being an issue with this design.

All hydrogen engines are low emissions engines, how does this one fare with gasoline? I doubt it's possible to have zero emissions with that fuel source. How is the hydrogen produced for the motor, is it through electrolysis? So there would be a power loss (internally sourcing) in producing the fuel by needing to generate enough electricity to go through that extra process. It's all very interesting. I'm not an engineer, I just have a basic understanding of science. I'm not trying to critique, I'm just curious.

It is an interesting concept, i see the efficiency gains, but it's still a 2 stroke. Dont see the need for the additional 4 opposed pistons other than vibration reduction, maybe? I can't see this being a reliable. How do you lubricate the....ummm...lets call them cam-cranks....connecting rods float in pressurized oil on a typical engine. That can't happen here where the piston meets the camcrank, it must be splashed or sprayed with oil like in a turbine engine. I dont see lubrication being nearly as effective on those piston bearings or mating surface and think that will be a life limiter for this engine.
@leeknivek
@leeknivek Жыл бұрын
By having an opposed piston design, you eliminate the head, the head gasket, the valve train, etc. - and instead of converting energy to heat in the valves and head, you can convert more potential energy into kinetic energy into the opposed piston. In other words, you can extract more energy per combustion, and there is enhanced sealing in the cylinder. There is also a lower oil wiper ring on the bottom of the piston, such as the old 2 stroke diesel engines, which are known for their power and reliability.
@SomeoneElse92422
@SomeoneElse92422 Жыл бұрын
@@leeknivek understand your thinking and I had the same though, if each cylinder was on singular tube, but in second 9 of the video it clearly shows 2 heads. That means 2 sealing surfaces per cylinder since the two cylinders are connected. Many 2 strokes don't have valve trains as well just opening in the side of the cylinder that the piston closes and reveals as it cycles. Any kinetic energy Imparted to the opposed piston is also kinetic energy lost when transferring energy to the crankshaft. Most engines have that oil seal right below the piston rings to keep the cylinder properly oiled, but the issue I see here is that you can't fill between piston and the cams that the pistons ride on with oil. Filling the space would meaning losing energy to the pistons "pumping" into the vacated area of other pistons. That means it can't be submerged and I feel the friction would be worse than a normal crankshaft since it can only be splashed or sprayed to keep it lubricated.
@leeknivek
@leeknivek Жыл бұрын
@@SomeoneElse92422 I believe that’s a different thing at 0:09, the inn engine cylinders are a solid tube as far as I have seen elsewhere. Yeah, I have to agree with the oiling problem, I’m sure they have some sort of solution but it’s not going to be as simple as a typical crank case. With engineering there are no perfect solutions, only trade offs - I think the benefits will far outweigh the problems, though, I would speculate that these will last a very long time while being fairly inexpensive and reliable. Will be a good thing for everyone, because the electronics in these modern cars can be pretty fussy at times.

Burning Hydrogen in an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) using atmospheric gasses which has in addition to 21% oxygen needed for combustion of Hydrogen, also has 78% nitrogen. The resulting combustion process of burning hydrogen will produce Nitrous Oxide Gas Emissions. Even very Small amounts of Nitrogen Oxide is a potent greenhouse gas lasting 114 years in the Earth's Atmosphere. A single nitrous oxide molecule has 298 times the global warming potential of a carbon dioxide ( CO2) molecule. Without removing 100% of the Nitrous Oxide from the I.C.E. vehicles tailpipe emissions, running ICE on today's almost non-existent Green Hydrogen Fuel sources will only accelerate Earth's warming climate change. Today's Hydrogen comes from Hydrocarbon sources, adding to the net greenhouse gas emissions of Hydrogen Fuel to include Carbon Dioxide, Methane (lost in Natural Gas transport pipe leaks) , and now an adder of potent Nitrous Oxide gas to Earth's Atmosphere. I wish you luck creating a zero emissions vehicle any time soon that only emits water out of the tailpipe. Reducing Hydrogen I.C.E. tailpipe emissions with urea additive treatments like Diesel exhaust treatment AdBlue, seem not to be a solution. To make urea, producers in a energy intensive (polluting) process combine ammonia with carbon dioxide (CO2), then when used as an nitrous oxide I.C.E. exhaust after treatment an equal amount of CO2 that was needed in urea production is emitted back to the atmosphere. So burning Hydrogen with AdBlue to nigate Nitrous Oxide is returning CO2 back to the atmosphere. So what is the point or why is the preference of burning Hydrogen as a less environmentally taxing replacement fuel to Diesel or Gasoline when both of these fuels choices when burned return CO2 back to Earth's atmosphere when combusted in a Internal Combustion Engine just like burning Hydrogen would? "....... When AdBlue is used, water vapor, nitrogen and carbon dioxide are released through a process called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)....." Ammonia or Urea after treatment merely shifts the Hydrogen or Diesel ICE greenhouse gas emissions from the tailpipe spewing into the Earth's Atmosphere to a distant factory that produces the Ammonia or Urea product spewing into the atmosphere there. So the Ammonia or Urea chemical formulation process at the factory from raw materials releases greenhouse gasses. Also the Electricity needed to create the Ammonia or Urea pollutes the atmosphere there or from some other factory who pollutes the air to ship there with even more excessive atmospheric pollutants.Then the factory has to be powered for lights , computers, etc... and climate controlled burdening the atmosphere with more pollutants from electric consumption there and emitted elsewhere by a electric generator. Then plastic jugs / bottles made from oil have to be made and brought by a commercial truck to the Ammonia or Urea factory, causing more pollution. Then boxes need to be made and ink purchased for labels causing more environmental damaging raw material needed purchase plus energy consumption to make and ship..Then the boxed Ammonia or Urea bottles have to be shipped then distributed by truck additionally to the end user all adding to a Diesel or Hydrogen ICE pollution with Ammonia or Urea additive putting additional CO2 into the atmosphere because of being manufactured. Then the I.C.E driver will drive to the retailer to purchase Ammonia or Urea bottles causing more CO2 into the atmosphere because they are using a Ammonia or Urea additive Then the plastic bottles because of having chemical residue in them are not recyclable in most places or they are thrown in a dumpster never recycled to go to fill up a landfill causing more pollution. Then the boxes need to be handled to be recycled or thrown out all processes putting more pollution into the atmosphere or landfilled. Ammonia or Urea additives are worse for the planet than letting an I.C.E spew pollution at the tailpipe. Sorry that green hydrogen gas lighting sayers have perversely polluted your thinking. Frankly speaking NO mode of transportation that extracts energy from our environment is pollution free, so pick your Planet poisoning method to get around. Even a very basic form of transportation case in point is that when walking, or riding a bike a human is using food calories from food produced on forest cleared lands, shipped by I.C.E. producing CO2, fresh to you from across the globe, and then we humans produce flatulence during exertion of human driven transportation moving ourselves locally producing Carbon Dioxide ( CO-2) and Methane. An environmentalist in the UK has proposed a solution for this form of human polluting transportation, in that we be kept within 15 miles by wearing a GPS ankle bracelet that reports to authorities your wandering, and fines you for producing extra transportation green greenhouse gasses outside your invisible pen. Please be equally alarmed that human Methane flatulence is a greenhouse gas which is even more global warming than Hydrocarbon Crude Oil, or Fart CO2 emissions. Methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere. Also environmentalists fart after digesting food, so will all concerned environmentalists save the planet from their human induced personal production of global warming digestive gasses lingering for more than a century in Earth's Atmosphere, such as methane production, by volunteering to stop their bodily biological digestive functions permanently?

It's still a 2stroke engine😂 Analytically it's an alternate firing 2stroke, 2cylender engine with emission problem.

This is definitely the future, not the electric car as this will be a bigger disaster with all the mining of lithium and cobalt acids and chemicals used to extract such a small amount from a ton of granite it’s horrific.

You're spreading misinformation. Know the simple basics between 2 stroke and 4 stroke first. This is not a 1 stroke engine. Their website says 1 stroke is a marketing gimmick

That 1 stroke is absolute BS! That is a 2 stroke with some updates from the original like not burning the lubricants. But it does exactly what a Trabant engine does when you look at the combination circle, that is what makes the difference between 2 and 4 strokes! Also this 2 power strokes per circle is just not true except for the 2 cilinders that fire at the same time but that is like just putting 2 normal 2 stroke engines together it's not really a new thing just twice the old. There are real great things about this engine like power from the size and weight. That is what they should be marked not that 1 stroke BS😂

Please Google search this phrase. " For hydrogen to be a climate solution, leaks must be tackled" Also read about a key challenge to the Hydrogen Economy: To do just that, please Google search this phrase......" For hydrogen to be a climate solution, leaks must be tackled" Because the Hydrogen's molecule is so small that it penetrates into solids , resulting in embrittling that solid material.... investing in a astronomically costly long term build out of a piped transportation system, and bulk storage Hydrogen Transportation Economy that needs constant leak detection, sealant repairs & expensive infrastructure component"s short lived structural material integrity degradation, resulting in constant replacement is a dubious investment. No capitalist investor return on investment calculation here, just more socialist dreams of government funded short sighted projects driving up our tax burden ever higher. Time to move on to the next sensational green idea that will compete with burning hydrocarbons to save the World. People are fleeing California because of high taxes, and living costs because of Socialist folly ideals like discussed here. Hydrogen gas is the transportation fuel of the future, and always will be.
