#1 Summer Trail Cam Tip

Are you wasting your Summer trail cam locations? Far to many trail cams are placed in locations that offer great Summer pictures or videos, but fail to offer any Intel for where bucks move during the Fall. The #1 Summer trail cam tip is to locate trail cams where you expect to find deer movement in the Fall, which is typically not where bucks are located during the Summer. Great hunting locations may not give you huge numbers of Summer buck pics, but they should give you enough Intel to know where to hang a treestand and deer hunt, this Fall.

Another great, informational video Jeff. Trail Camera photos in the spring and summer matter, but only as it relates to the areas I will be hunting in the Manistee National Forest in October-December. Placing and moving cameras to locate shooter bucks is challenging as the deer will usually change their bedding and travel patterns according to preferred food availability and human intrusion. It's a fun chess game each year . . . sometimes the longbow and I even get to experience a 'CHECKMATE'.

Jeff...great comments. I have been guilty of moving cameras for the best positions for great buck photos...not hunting info. It is easy to chase the deer with the cameras instead of letting them tell you if a the stand is in a good location and has buck activity. Thanks for the reminder of the real reason for viewing the pic's.

This is true. Wasn’t getting bucks pics a couple month ago, set out a mineral block (it’s legal in Missouri) and the mock scrape and we have plenty of great bucks now! I’ll have to get a crack at them before the rut tho lol

I have good bucks on camera now, 30 acres 10 planted in beans 20 acres of woods and bedding grass with a creek. The fields will be tilled up and planted in winter wheat in early October. Will I still lose my summer deer during fall and not have deer even with supplemental feeding? Any tips to keep them there?

Thanks for that...I wasn't exactly doing that. I would put out food and minerals.... But I wasn't sure about why I put the where exactly except because of Mach scrapes. Know I'll but putting my cams and scrapes out in corallation with the surrounding trails, and watching for the travel activity to and from where the ways their heading and the trails and directions they are going to. That's going to help in deciding on my stand and blind locations this fall💯 thanks a lot.... Btw what's your name..?...lol

I got a small 8 acer parcel and some is field but for an few years that i have hunted it its ben the best spot ever big deer nice bucks some silly looking bucks one cam on stand and one by the feild and by a creek

Thank you, i have a buck that comes on my Property for the past four years, between the middle of October and the middle of November. Mainly at night, last year I got one daytime picture of him at 1:00pm. But about Nov. 16 it’s like he up and vanishes. I can’t figure out where he is during other times. One of my neighbors has never seen him on camera either. Any advice? On locating him? Thank you! Your videos have definitely helped me attract and keep mature deer on my Property.

I had a trail that was pretty high traffic until about a month ago and had a couple bucks and some does on a camera. Tried setting up a scrape following one of your previous videos on this trail, but the trail has pretty much out of use now (except by a coyote). Is it possible I did something to change the traffic pattern? Maybe growth of ag fields have changed the patterns?

I just commented on a video about mock scrapes using vines. I passed several vines yesterday on my way to my location. Figured I’d find one there and didn’t. Here in my area in Ohio they nearly 90% of the time scrape beach trees so I used it. You think I’ll be ok with it instead of using the vines? Thanks

I actually don't believe in minerals with the exception of for trail cam locations where legal. There is no study out there that points towards any health advantage for deer in any way...antler growth, over all health, lactation rates, body weight, etc.

I have a question though. I went out this morning and scouted A LOT of ground 150 yds where I saw from last year had great deer sign. This tract looked better (creek bottom, plenty of white oaks super thick) than where I was last fall, but there was ZERO deer sign...?? I mean, even old rubs/other historical sign was absent. Is the spot a bust even though it has the hallmarks?
