I probably should have been in the woods more this spring and summer, but I have been on a trophy quest this year to break all my Personal Best fish record's. I have successfully set new PB record's on 6 different species so far. Time to shift to the deer woods now. I am going to camp on my lease in Readstown this weekend, set 2 new stands, check trailcams, cut a few trails, and do alittle trout fishing on the West fork and The Kickapoo. I really never cared about spooking a deer from January to mid August. I enjoy my land as much as possible and still get plenty of pictures. Thanks for all the great information. You have an incredibly deep well of whitetail knowledge, and the fact you share some/most of it for free is unheard of these day's. Watching you and your video's has made me change the way hunt and I greatly appreciate it. I saw more buck's last season than my last 15 seasons combined.

Awesome coincidence!.. my bro-in-law and I were just discussing this very topic YESTERDAY and I told him I feel like I have so much work to do that I could bother the deer daily for the rest of summer... plot work, chainsaw work, fixing trails, picking fresh berries, etc. You know how it feels when you love the land. You can find something to do out there every day!

Thanks Jeff I’ve bought a 20 acre property surrounded by miles of private wooded property. By watching your videos I’m learning how to create day time movement added mock scraps and water holes seems to be working well. Had numerous trails down to two major trails hitting mock scraps. Spot on jeff....we use labor day here in Michigan as are cut off for intrusion. Just visited property and hung 3 camera's and trimmed up a couple shooting lanes..back in april i moved 2 stands and replaced one.i prefer to do it early before the green up(shooting lanes)so i can see what it will be during hunting season. Putting in a new food plot this weekend ,rain called for Monday and Tuesday..kudos to a Michigan boy.god bless us all..

All sounds great J...and you have some rain coming too! Labor day is a great day to begin winding down for sure! My only problem is that our season begins her on 9/19 and in WI on 9/12. I need to get cracking ☺️

Lunch break from blacktop work....truck a/c and WHS videos! It's 93°; feels like 97°. Some coworkers leave early; but not me. Saving my time for hunting season. Choring is boring. I keep plugging away and smile to myself when I think of deer season. Motivation for summer work is knowing it will be key to any success I have in the Fall. Expecting a seed delivery from Northwoods, today too!!!

This is the same view I hold. I am ALWAYS on my property all summer long. Late Aug/early Sept, I get out. I don't think it bothers the deer at all in the summer when the cover is thick.

Jeff thank you for sharing this valuable information. There is no doubt that every Deer Hunter is obviously very concerned about spooking deer. These insights will help all of us to enjoy the great outdoors more in the summer and get our plans made now so that we don't disturb the deer later thanks again have a blessed day.

Jeff...great comments, it is really important to enjoy one's land!!! We have a lot of weeds in our buckwheat and are going to have to spray it with RU, so it is clean enough to plant in a few weeks. Will spray tomorrow and maybe lightly disc or burn it before planting.

I have found the same things with mule deer and blacktails. A week or 2 during summer. I check my cams every 3 weeks or so but if you bump a buck mid September good luck finding him again. They will head for the thickest cover possible where they can survive.

Good reinforcement of timing Doc because only 7-8 weeks left to get work completed before quiet time here in Michigan. October first opener around the corner and I hope it cools down about 40 degrees. Water holes due to the current heat are very popular and I'm hauling water in Saturday but the conditioning is working. Planting and final stand work is due by month end. Looking forward to October.

Thank you for this video! I have often wondered what the time frame should be from when we back out of our movement on the Hunting Property before hunting season opens. Yes, it is probably a little different here in the south (about 50 minutes north of Atlanta), but I imagine the back-out time frame would be the same…about four weeks. Like one of the other commenters, I wait in anticipation to see how all of your hard work pans out. 😊

"You can see your impact". If only most folks were this observant. Can't count how many times I've heard people say something along the lines of "I was seeing him in there like crazy before season but since hunting season I haven't seen him and I only get a few night time pictures now. It's like they know when hunting season starts".

Jeff, video idea for you. Identifying non ag food destinations. This is an area that I’m not strong in and need help. I think most bow hunters can identify a corn and bean field . But I think there’s so much more to food destinations than ag. For example oak trees and how to identify both white and red oaks. Honey locusts trees can be dynamite late season. And there’s so many more non ag food destinations for bucks. Maybe top 5 to 10 non ag food for deer and how to identify. Thoughts? And I’m looking at this from a public land hunter and not from a landowner wanting to plant new food.

Another episode of great and useful tips. I love seeing a new episode thanks so much for your time and knowledge! Do you recommend deer feeders on a small property that is a 5 year old cut over? Jeff I have a 100 acres of very very thick stuff old fields growed up in sawbriars and blackberrys you wouldn't believe. I'm fixing to start a plot on it maybe just 10 acres do you think I still can plant in july and bring in good activity before October?

So theoretically I can have a fall cover property for bucks yet still offer spring/summer food (perennial foods/annual foods) for them as well as fall/winter plots? I’ve just noticed we don’t have big bucks hanging around along with when the doe’s have twins, most the time one is a lot bigger the it’s twin. Trying to produce the best deer herd that we possibly can do.

Thanks for the great info. Just was re watching your ultimate no till videos. I have buckwheat that is approximately 3 ft tall. Planted last week of May in NW Ohio. Mostly flowering at this time and starting to get mature seed. Is there a problem letting this go for another week or two before completing the no till seeding and terminating the buckwheat? Should I be worried about the buckwheat reseeding and smothering the fall crop before it has a chance to establish? I appreciate any recommendations! Love your content sir!

I have good bucks on camera now, 30 acres 10 planted in beans 20 acres of woods and bedding grass with a creek. The fields will be tilled up and planted in winter wheat in early October. I have thought about this issue. OKAY so dont be out daily and give them fellows lots of space a month 6 weeks before hunting season starts. At the moment I have a different question. It is very dry here & second cutting was just taken on the hay fields. There is nothing there but some very short white clover like I see on my lawn. Why do I see so many deer out there grazing? What are these deer eating?
@travisethridge40624 жыл бұрын
I notice that around my property too, they just browse through cut hay fields ( does) I believe they just move and eat whatever is green hiding under the fresh cut and bailed.
