I'm Ukrainian, born there and both my parents are Ukrainian. But life was difficult for my mom and she died at 25 y/o. Me and my sister were put up for adoption and we lived for a year in an orphanage. I was adopted. My 6 y/o sister wasn't adopted (for she died, too). I got adopted and I was raised in Spain. I want to learn Ukrainian because it was supposed to be my mother tongue. And because I want to go back home and live there till I die. My birth place was a little town in Odessa Oblast. ❤

Я испанскоязычний, но све другие языки которые я изучал, были из английского, просто потому что английский - очень популярен в эти времена а это облегчает нам изучение других языков. Но... по моему изучения русского языка было бы легче его изучать из испанском чем из английском, а это не потому что испанский - мой родной язык, но потому что английский язык не такой гибкий язык по сравнению с испанским и русским. Желаю вам все хорошего :D

Hello Yulia, thanks for the video! I try to pay a lot of attention to matters of pronunciation and I have a few questions; please don't take them as criticisms! I love your voice, videos and course (which I have). My questions concerns the sounds и, в and щ (this last is not present in this video but I'm referring to the recordings on your webpage); to my ears you pronounce them completely identically to Russian ы, в and щ: namely, и as /ɨ/ (with velarization of the preceding consonants, especially labials and м) and some diphthongal quality, в as /v/ and щ as /ɕː/. On the other hand standard descriptions of Ukrainian phonology (eg Wikipedia) suggest /ɪ/ for и (ie, a sound close to Polish y), labio-dental approximant /ʋ/ for в and the consonant cluster /ʃ t͡ʃ/ (similar to Polish szcz, but softer) for щ. Would it be correct to assume that the accent used in the video is an Eastern one ?
@Ukrainianlanguage
@Ukrainianlanguage 6 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you very much for your question. You're right, the accents vary from region to region. I'm from Kyiv, where the Ukrainian speakers use mostly the standard Ukrainian, which you can here in the Ukrainian mass media. In the western regions the pronunciation has some Polish influence. Sometimes people from the central or eastern Ukraine struggle to understand the western dialects. I can recommend a page where words of different languages are pronounced by native speakers. It's a good resource to compare different accents: uk.forvo.com/search/%D0%B2%D0%B8/

Hello! I have a question, I'm learning ukrainian formally but I have some phrases my family says around the house and I can't find the spelling for. They came from poor immigrants so I'm wondering if some of it is slang. One thing we've always said (sounds like, using english letters) "Die bohsha" they say it means "give blessings" and say it after a sneeze. I'm wondering if the "die" is a shortened form of "davaty" ?
@user-xe1pq2ot9u
@user-xe1pq2ot9u 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. If I understood you correctly, then after sneezing they say "be healthy". I live in Ukraine and so they say. I don't know if it's slang I will leave you a comment. If I understood you correctly then this is the answer to your question...
