Props to Mad Hat for his video editing. Getting better! P.S. No wonder it is so hard for people to get into cyber security as people are having a hard time paying to get the certs requirements to land a job. I hope there is more info on how people from any part of the world to learn how to become a cyber security analyst.

BTL1 Cert holder - I thought it was an amazing course, and was my first blue team class/cert. I am now enrolled in SANS BACS - BTL1 has made (GFACT, GISF, GSEC, GCIH) all relatively easy... so take that for what it is worth. Besides BTL1 the only experience I had was some paths on THM.

Love the memes and content. As someone who has been in IT for over 10 years , i can say Security+ is the comptia cert i would take as job required it, especially govt jobs. CCNA got me into the door for net eng job. A+ is a waste of money. Taking the google cyber security cert, so far went through the 1st 3 modules and is way more helpful.

HTB seems to be the king of the hill. Cyber Defenders also has caught my attention lately but didn't know enough about the quality their content. Looks like SBT needs to update their content/pricing as their prestige will save them for so long. I have been on THM (not in the video) lately as their pricing is much affordable and more "hold your hand approach" with labs and VMs but they are lacking assessments (just certificate of completion). Still a great source on a budget.

It's dumb that certification creators and schools make money when you fail. It's almost like they make it difficult just to make more money. That's why I'm doing bug bounties, I won't need certified to prove I can do something.

What is bug bounties?
@dylanmetscher614
@dylanmetscher614 5 ай бұрын
@@xyz3400there’s a few different versions of it but the short explanation is it’s a program that some websites offer where a freelancer has the opportunity to ethically attack an application/website, if you find something to report you will build a report and send it in there are websites that let you make accounts for bug bounties so you can show experience and success rate with that account, some programs even pay you!

I really feel this especially after watching your video on your journey. I’m literally in the same boat. Im currently doing the google cert for cybersecurity. i downloaded the app you recomended for testing , im using it to test prep for the security+. WELL maybe within this year.. who knows. i started the google one like last week. im already through the first lesson and 56% through the second lesson. ill be in this field if it kills me. The super expensive ones are horrible, like truly horrible. The last ones you covered, I feel like those must be more oriented to government organizations, or like big businesses to send their employees to. I can't imagine someone paying out of pocket for that sht. There is some certs that are really good, and cool even... but some that seem truly pointless and extremely overpriced. Some really give a bad name to certs...and i can see why some old heads hate the whole cert thing after dealing with it for 20-30 years.

You have 6 years after passing the exam to provide the 4-5 years experience needed. Anyone can take the exam, no pre-requisites. Associate isn't as impressive because the 4-5 years experience in any 2 of the domains means you've had PAID work experience, but passing the test means you have the practical knowledge just no experience. Associates of ISC2 is kind of like a college degree in that sense. Also, I'm glad the edits are enjoyable 😁💚

How should i get started, considering that i have a job, am currently in college, do kickboxing, and am in a relationship. I'm not sure how to juggle all of these things, and i'm wondering if you have amy tips to help! WGU might be a good fit for you. I've been able to get my cyber degree in 2 years with no transfer credits or IT background while working full time. You get a lot of certs throughout the program. You pay for a 6month term and get as many classes done as possible. If you have an IT background, certs with hack the box or tryhackme experience might be the way to go.

I recommend perusing the Mike Meyer's Security+ book. The Kindle version is $24. As for work-life balance, almost everyone agrees that your average Security Analyst position is excellent at supporting relationships and family. One-offs who find themselves as the only security person at a start-up while on-call would not agree, but these are outliers.
