I am super glad you did not go the cavier, waygu, gold leaf etc etc way of upping the price of the $100 sandwich. Totally classy. Far too many people use that as a price increaser without increasing the actual quality. My suggestion is to make a series or tests of bread with the same cheese in the middle. See how a whole wheat one tastes, vs. a rye, vs. brioche, vs. a spelt one.

I really appreciate your commitment to creativity, by going out of your way to source truly gourmet, top of the line ingredients, rather than simply just covering it in gold leaf and calling it "expensive" the way far too many chefs do when they want to make something "expensive." Your commitment to quality and creativity both really come out in this video! Plus, I've gotta say, that sounds like a truly life changing sandwich! I make my grilled cheese by softening the butter and spreading it evenly on what will be the outside of the bread, i too go low and slow getting the skillet to temp, then i place one slice, butter side down, stack my cheese and place the other slice of bread butter side up, then after about 2 minutes i flip it and continue doing this till both sides are golden brown. Perfect every time.

1000$ grilled cheese: 2 sourdough bread Every item on this page was chosen by a The Pioneer Woman editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Take a look in your fridge: How many types of cheese do you have right now? Maybe you've got a bag of mozzarella for homemade pizza, some cheddar for grilled cheese, a container of parmesan for chicken parm, and possibly a wheel of brie for a charcuterie board. That's a decent selection-but there are so many more types of cheese out there to try! This is not, by any means, a comprehensive list of all the cheeses in the world. It is, however, a round-up of popular, distinctive cheeses that you'll find in the cheese aisle, on your favorite restaurant menus, and in beloved recipes-and they all deserve a space in your cheese drawer. First things first, let's have a little cheese-making lesson! All cheeses start from the same place: milk. Sometimes it's the milk of a cow, other times it's from a sheep, goat or even a water buffalo. Different agents are introduced into the milk, which cause the milk to solidify and separate into curds and whey. The solid curds are what is used to make cheese. But that doesn't mean all cheeses are the same! Each of these varieties has its own unique flavor profile and/or purpose, and swapping one for another can make a big difference in a dish. Take mac and cheese, for example: Ree Drummond makes a classic macaroni and cheese with a choice of cheddar, jack and/or fontina; but her fancy macaroni, which is a four-cheese combo of gruyère, fontina, parmigiano-reggiano, and goat cheese, is a totally different beast. Cheese can completely transform a dish-so check out our A to Z list of the 30 most popular types of cheese, grab your cheese grater, and start picking your favorites! types of cheese americanGETTY IMAGES 1 American Cheese This iconic orange-hued cheese is made from a blend of cheeses (including cheddar and other similar cheeses, like colby) plus milk byproducts, which allow it to melt without separating or turning greasy the way traditional cheeses might. It's the ideal cheeseburger topping! types of cheese asiagoGETTY IMAGES 2 Asiago This cow's milk Italian cheese comes in two types: pressed or ripened. Pressed asiago is a fresh, semi-soft cheese that is sweet and nutty with a creamy texture; ripened asiago is salted and aged, which means it's more like a parmesan. You can't go wrong either way! types of cheese blueGETTY IMAGES 3 Blue The secret ingredient to this pungent cheese? It's actually mold! A strain of mold called penicillium is injected into cheese made with cow's, sheep's or goat's milk before aging. Blue cheese has a sharp, salty flavor with sweet undertones and it comes in many varieties: Roquefort is a French blue cheese made from sheep's milk; gorgonzola is an Italian variety; and Stilton is an English blue cheese. Advertisement - Continue Reading Below types of cheese brieGETTY IMAGES 4 Brie Typically made with cow's milk, brie is known for its soft, edible rind and smooth, creamy interior. Cream is added during the production process, which contributes to brie's rich, runny texture. The cheese is beloved for its buttery flavor with a bit of earthiness. types of cheese camembertERIC AUDRAS//GETTY IMAGES 5 Camembert There are many similarities between camembert and brie, but these two French cheeses are not quite the same. Camembert is sold as a smaller wheel, measuring around 5 inches in diameter, and it is richer and more intense in flavor than brie. It has big buttery, mushroom notes, and though very rich, it's less creamy and runny than brie. SHOP CUTTING BOARDS types of cheese cheddarROBERTO MACHADO NOA//GETTY IMAGES 6 Cheddar Considered the most popular cheese in the country, cheddar is a cow's milk cheese that was first produced in England. Like most cheeses, young cheddars are mild and creamy; aged cheddars are more crumbly and complex in flavor. What makes cheddar so interesting, however, is how the cheese is made: Once the curds are separated from the whey, the curds go through a "cheddaring" process, where they are broken up to expel air and liquid before being stacked and pressed together to age. Fun fact: Cheese curds are just young cheddar that hasn't aged at all. Advertisement - Continue Reading Below types of cheese cotijaSNYFEROK//GETTY IMAGES 7 Cotija There's nothing quite like this cow's milk cheese, which comes from the Mexican state of Michoacan. Cotija has a strong tangy flavor with a rich milky texture. It has unique physical properties: It doesn't melt and has an adhesive quality, making it the perfect topping for the classic dish elote (Mexican street corn). Cotija is also delicious crumbled or grated over salads, enchiladas, soups and tacos. types of cheese cottage cheeseBURWELLPHOTOGRAPHY//GETTY IMAGES 8 Cottage Cheese Cottage cheese is a fresh cheese made from cow's milk. Once the curds and whey are separated, the curds are drained-but not pressed-and packaged as cottage cheese. As they sit, the remaining whey collects, which is what gives cottage cheese its soupy appearance and texture. Farmer's cheese is simply pressed cottage cheese, meaning that it has the same mild, milky flavor, but with a denser, less "wet" texture. types of cheese cream cheeseANNICK VANDERSCHELDEN PHOTOGRAPHY//GETTY IMAGES 9 Cream Cheese This classic bagel spread was the brainchild of a New York state dairyman in the 1870s, who used a combination of milk and cream for his cheese-making process. Once the whey was drained off, the resulting curds were stabilized and pureed, resulting in the smooth, creamy and slightly sweet fresh cheese that became an American icon. Boursin is essentially a French cream cheese flavored with herbs and spices. However, other countries like Denmark, Sweden and the United States have started to make their own fontinas from cow's milk. Like other cheeses, younger fontinas are sweeter and more mild in flavor with a smoother texture-perfect for grilled cheese and casseroles. Older fontinas are drier and more crumbly, and they're delicious grated or shaved over a variety of dishes, including salads, risottos, pastas and soups.

A $100 grilled cheese is a bit over the top. Sometimes it might be worth it, though. As for go-to GC sammies, $10 is my 1st choice, but you can't go wrong with the $1 sammie on a budget. As the Chef says, Taste Matters!

Happy birthday! Grilled cheese is real comfort food but $100 sandwich would give me indigestion just thinking of the cost; however, they do make tums.

You see, the real trick is not one $100 sandwich, but 100 $1 sandwiches.

Replace the Gruyère with Uplands Dairy’s Pleasant Ridge Reserve, and you might just turn the $100 sandwich into a $150 sandwich.
