Some folks live in debt. Not bad looking cabinets especially to start. A person could always remodel with thicker or more durable ones later. Like this little house. Golden oak is nice;)Take care and thanks for sharing your builds.

I talked to one of the most successful cabinet makers/installers in my area. You wanna know what he does? He buys bare IKEA cabinets and finishes them out himself. Sounds kinda crazy but he can buy a whole cabinet for less than he can buy the materials to build one himself. Then he makes and installs doors, drawers, face frames and paints/stains them to whatever the customer wants. He realized the only thing that matters to people is "does the front look the way I want it to?".... and the rest is just whatever. Of course this takes time, skill, and some tool investment but I've built a similar kitchen to another family member. He spent just over $25,000 on his complete remodel and did none of it himself. I spent $3,000 on mine and redid everything with all the modern Blum soft close hinges and drawer slides, the extra drawers, the hidden garbage/recycling cabinet, and all those little things people really like. It came out really well and we've had it now for 4 years. I bet it will last at least another 20 before we have any issues. And by that time styles will change anyway and we will be ready for something else.

@@MrClarkisgod You did good, and that is exactly why I am showing people how this comes together. It takes some time and a bit of skill but if you do it yourself you have a boat load of money $$$$ and it can look good.

I usually buy the property and list it when it's almost done or sell it before it's finished (no agent) like this build. So it all depends on what presents itself. I build in Nc and Ga.

I love the ceiling! For me, I would prefer the tall cabinet/pantry to open the other way - towards the fridge/range/sink. It doesn't make sense to have open away from the kitchen.

Do you think it would be cheaper to buy used cabinets? I know that wouldn’t be a good idea for you since you’re selling the house but for me since I’m going to be letting my parents live there. I wonder if buying used would be cheaper even still.

Not a fan of used stuff for my new builds. I sell these to people and I dont want the used stigma attached to my homes. On the other hand if you are doing it for yourself, that is a great idea, Habitat has some good pricing on used items. I seen doors and windows go for less then 50 bucks, same with some furniture.

My boss paid 2500 for the cabinets in my house. They were originally over 15k plus. All hardwood with slow close hardware etc (minus knobs which I bought off eBay and installed.). They also came with a sink and faucet, and a basic counter top. We bought them from a place that was redoing a show room space. We had to go take them down and load them up ourselves, but for the savings and the quality they are great. A few dings here and there, but nothing you would not have after a year of use anyhow. As MC said. Habitat is also great. I purchased my dining room light fixture from there, and a bunch of bathroom fixtures, which are insanely priced at retail.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from the camera viewpoint it appears that the pantry cabinet doors overlaps the swing arc of the back door to the house meaning if the pantry cabinet doors are open and someone tries to enter the house the back door are going to push against the cabinet doors. Also, where will you place a door stop so the back door does not bash against the cabinets if flung open?

Can just stick a removable rigid stopper with rubber between them i guess that would limit both door opening fully at the same time so in that way they wont bang each other when both are opened. Maybe both doors should be limited to 80° swing.

Has the increase in lumber prices made things difficult for you? I am getting plans drawn now for a spec home to sell in Alabama and the lumber prices are outrageous. What are your thoughts on this?
@MigraineCraftsman
@MigraineCraftsman 4 жыл бұрын
On this build I bought lumber when it was in the early stages of going up. Now a days lumber is insane same with trusses and sheathing. This will level of eventually, but I don't think we will go to the old prices, the new base price will be higher once the dust settles. New construction will be higher from now on, so affordable housing will be even harder to get, that is my 2 cents, and I hope I am wrong on that one.
