Hi.. Thanks for making this channel. I am watching from Indonesia. This is the third house you built/are building in the same neighborhood that I watched. 1. On the gable ends you are using a 2x12 rafter. I wouldn't think the gable end wall would be load bearing. Why do you use headers above the windows?
@MigraineCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
If you look at 6:53 (middle of the gable) you can see 3 two by fours sandwitched together to support the ridge beam. There is weight coming down from that support and the overall roof there fore windows have to have headers to make sure they open right same with the door. Hope that helps, great question btw, construction can be deceiving just by looking at it, once you start working on things you realize how heavy some things are when you put them together. Those 2 by 12 rafters are no joke, better eat a big breakfast :)

Just curious, why have electrical panel facing into bedroom? I know that you have a washer and dryer in the utility, could the panel have been brought another stud cavity out and then it would not be over washer, but facing into utility area? Nice clean quality work you are doing.
@MigraineCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Great question, it is controversial to some folks but here is my answer. In the bathroom shower/bathtub has a potential to create a lot of humidity. If the bathroom is not properly vented (fan or window which I have both) that humidity which in essence is water in the air can accumulate and cause issues in the panel since as you know water (condensation) and electricity don't play very well together. There fore common practice in the construction industry is to not put panels in wet areas such as the bathroom. Hope that helps.

@MigraineCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Now that is a very hard question to answer with limited info. This is what I would do and did do btw. That sentence is crap lol Get on the phone and start making calls to find out how much your foundation would cost for lets say 600 square feet. Then find out what framing will cost you. Siding cost Roofing cost Electrician Plumber HVAC Power connection Sewer connection or septic tank Water connection or well (wells can be very very expensive be carefull on that) You might not like this answer but by doing all of this you will LEARN a hell of a lot more about all of this by the end. That would be a great start and you can get a nice idea how much it all would be for your LOCAL area and you would have most of the house done which you can finish the inside yourself like I am doing. Squares and rectangles are cheapest to build going up is also cheaper the a big foot print. (less grading and foundation) Also Google mortgage calculator and play with numbers to see your payment. I hope that helps a bit.

One more question I have is when insulating the cathedral (slopped) ceiling I noticed you putting in baffles to leave air space for what you called air flow. Don't you need a continuous ridge for that part of the roof to get airflow from soffits where cool air can come in and rise to top of ceiling and then excape? Otherwise there is no movement of air. Also which way does the door swing in the main bed room. at 13:16. It should swing to the left but that would mean switches behind door. If you swing door towards closet then when open part of that door will be in bedroom instead of a dead wall like the insulated wall.
@MigraineCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Take a look at my framing vid on this you can see there is space at the ridge for air to escape sheathing was cut short for that purpose, the pockets of air go from the overhang to the top and dispursed through the ridge vent. The door will swing right unfortunetally it was supposed to swing left but the switches got put on the wrong side.
