The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is redesigned and better than ever, but there are always still a few things that can be nitpicked. There's not much to dislike with the new Tucson, but here are some things that stand out to me as good and bad. Overall, I'm pleased with what Hyundai did for the 2022 Tucson and believe it's a GREAT competitor for this compact crossover class.

It’s crap 1 month in and I am so disappointed, the AC way too loud, the version sent to Jamaica has noooooooooooooooo features in the entry level. It’s way too bouncy, it’s not aligned properly so when you are driving it’s like the car all over the place, the rear view camera lines are way off. The sound system is utter rubbish, the infotainment says is crap as well. The parts are already rusting. The inner material is so cheap it’s not even funny! No passenger seat seatbelt sensor. And the most annoying thing is you burn more gas in eco mode than normal mode at least 40% more! WTF!!!!! Not to mention the veryyyyyyyyyy poorrrrrrrrr gas mileage!

@PrimeAutotainment....you said there was a lot more room in the front seats. I know you said you were 5'9"... but how is it going to be if you're 6'6"?? And I mean, NFL Offensive Lineman big! How comfortable will it be? I have a Ford Edge and it's okay in the front seat...but don't ask anyone to sit behind me! I found the Chevy Equinox was much roomier for me...but it lacks power, has maintenance issues...and on the highways here in Texas....you have this feeling that there is no way it will make it up some the hills on I-10 between San Antonio and Fort Stockton! I guess a Tucson is probably stay on my list of not considering it.

You can use a button on the steering wheel to adjust volume or mute whatever you are listening to & of course access a phone paired to the car. The car has "dynamic voice controls" so you can push the button on the steering wheel and say a command to tune the radio, adjust the temperature/fan, heated/cooled seats, turn on/off heated steering wheel, and so on. You really do not have to mess with the touch system while driving once you learn the voice system; you just tell the car what to do. It is only really used to set/change settings which you should do when you are not driving. You can also use voice to ask where the nearest McD's, police station, Walmart whatever is and set that as your destination to initiate voice directions from the nav system. It is not that hard to get used to it and I am a senior citizen who does not even know how to use a smart phone & needs to get the book to program my VCR ... and, yes, I still have one LOL!

I am 718 and cannot wait for my Tucson limited hybrid to come in next month. And you are right everything is right on the steering wheel and you can talk to the car. It's an amazing vehicle. I looked at other cars and tried to build them online and anything I worked with to try to get it to what this car has was going to cost me $3000 to $5,000 more and even then it's sometimes did not give me what I wanted. I was just looking at safety tests on KZbin one gives it zero Stars one gives it five stars. All I know is it has all the safety features that I was looking for. And that was one of the first reasons I wanted one but the second was comfort and being able to raise my seat up higher so that my hips don't hurt. And with eight positions for the passenger and driver seat and heated and air conditioned front seats and heated back seats I'm going to end up being the designated driver for all of my quilting friends when we hit the quilt shops.

I’m getting ready to buy the hybrid limited and I did the same research you all did. I do everything by voice and steering wheel and use an iPad all the time, so I prefer touch screens. A lot of people mention no knobs and frankly it doesn’t bother me. It is easy to get used to. I have gotten great mileage up to 35.8 mpg measured by fuel fill-ups, not the car computer. I got 26.5 in mostly city. Where it loses is in small trips with lots of start-stops. Goes down to about 21.5.

Picked up a brand new 2022 Tuscon SEL with a number of upgrades in Calypso Red Friday 5/20/22. I can vouch that it does in fact have wireless Apple Car Play with the wireless charger. The one and only thing I dislike is that if you turn off the auto start/stop it doesn't remember it. Each time I start my car I have to shut it off. It's a minor thing...but truth be told, so far, I love everything about my 2022 Tucson.

2023 Tucson Limited FWD: Love everything about it. No knobs is ok and I actually like the clean look. No Tablet sticking up out of the dash! Wired Android Auto is fine when we use it (which is less and less). Using the installed Nav system more than Google Maps. Listen to our Lifetime SiriusXM all the time so again no need for the AA Google Apps. Engine power is fine for our lifestyle. Like not having to worry about a Turbo. Getting 35+ mpg so very pleased. Our insurance also went down due to all the safety systems (which are awesome).

I love the no knob touchscreen in my Ultimate as well. The entire surface is flat and uniform, so you can just wipe it off in less than one second. This makes it so it so much easier to keep clean. It baffles me that so many people complain about it. I usually use Bluetooth for my car audio rather than CarPlay, but it seems people complain about lag and other issues with wireless CarPlay regardless. So I don’t feel I’m missing out there either.

I bought the 22 Tucson Limited FWD about 5 months ago. There are some things that I have realized I don't like and hoped they were different. 1. Gloss black media panel. Collects a lot of dust and scratches. 2. Gloss black exterior accent pieces. They get scratched very easily. Mine already has a ton of scratches. 3. The power and fuel economy. 4. Even though the build quality is better than the previous generation. I think it could be better. 5. The leather on the seats is not of good quality.

@Boomerette
@Boomerette Жыл бұрын
Hwy mileage is always worse than ciry in a hybrid, because it's the stop & go stuff that produces regenerative braking and keeps that battery level up. I have a 2014 Outback (which I love) but I would kill for 29-31mpg on the highway! (The Tucson we just bought will replace my husband's 11-yr-old Fusion Hybrid, which has myriad non-hybrid-related problems that have cost us thousands over the past 2 yrs).
@StevenShelikoff
@StevenShelikoff Жыл бұрын
@@Boomerette it's true that the highway mileage is worse than city in a hybrid but not because of regenerative braking keeping the battery charged. Remember that for a non-plugin hybrid, *all* of the energy has to come from the gas you put in so it's still the gas engine that keeps the battery charged. Any car gets worse milage the faster you go because air and rolling resistance goes up at approximately the square of your speed. So even a non-hybrid will get much better milage cruising at 30mph than 70mph if it doesn't need to brake. But in city driving, you usually do need to brake and a non-hybrid loses the energy it put into momentum as heat from the brakes. So you're right that it's the stop and go stuff that kills the milage of a non-hybrid. A hybrid can convert around 80 percent of that momentum into energy that can be used to get the car going again after it stopped. So it's both the fact that it takes much less energy to go slower and the a hybrid only loses maybe 20% of the energy when you stop then start vs. if you just kept rolling as opposed to a non-hybrid that loses 100% of that energy, is why the hybrid gets better milage at slow speed stop and go than high speed highway. But even a hybrid will get better milage going a steady 30mph than a stop and go 30mph because you still have losses associated with converting momentum to electricity, charging the battery with it and then converting that battery charge back to momentum.

Answer to complaint 1 is do what I do and have a washable mop duster in the center storage for the glossy black touch screen also the physical buttons at least for radio/music controls are on the steering wheel. I went with SEL because I can't stand leather living in the desert but I don't get cooling seats. Also for about 30 minutes on a 1000 mile road trip, the glossy touch area was reflecting sun around noon very harshly. Those are my complaints. Also, I have the SEL Hybrid and it does not have wireless carplay so I don't think any of them do My Hybrid max mileage highway on the 1000 mile road trip was 34 max and I average about 24 mpg in the city driving average meaning I don't mash the gas most of the time I try to ease on the gas after each stop

I carry a microfiber cloth and just wipe everything down when I park it at home. It does not take long at all and I have no issue w/ scratches inside or out. Any car will eventually get some scratches & wear from use over time. If you are concerned about scratching the screen, you can get cheap protectors to put over it on Amazon. Once you have the car programmed/set to your liking, you really seldom use the touch screen as you can do most everything via voice controls.

One other thing that surprises me that nobody mentions....is aside from the fact that the led instrument panel displays some nice features, the upper trim packages have that panel.... But it almost looks like they just took a tablet and plugged it in and set it up on the dash..... In my opinion the implementation is interesting but it's like it wasn't fully thought through as far as looking more aesthetically pleasing and blending into the dash

The one thing I dislike a lot is that I can not use the steering wheel buttons to change the radio channels unless they are my presets. The seek button is uncomfortably far away while driving and causes me to have to reach for it. I also dislike the center console compartment. Its just an open space with no organization. I also find the small compartments along each side of the center console rather useless at this point. I also feel like even when I feel as if I am being gentle ( this is possibly driver related issues) It revs forward or backwards sometimes. Those are mostly small issues and overall I love the vehicle. I love how it looks sitting next to some of the higer end SUVs. It holds its own and just has a very appealing look to it.

I recently purchased a 2022 Tucson Limited AWD and have been very happy with it until a couple of days ago. All of a sudden there was no sound coming from the speakers no matter what audio source was being used. This was a known problem for 2009 - 2017 models with navigation. Also, my liftgate will not close using the key fob at all. Sometimes it doesn't close with the button on the tailgate either. Soonest appointment to diagnose was 3 weeks out. We'll see how it goes but this is disturbing.

You do if you bought the SEL w/convenience... GAS ONLY... you do NOT get knobs and wireless if you buy the SEL w/convenience HYBRID (or PHEV). There's actually a ton of differences between what you do and don't get with the SEL Convenience trims between Gas and HEV... it's crazy how different those two (same) trims are between Gas vs HEV. P.S. I know because I bought the 2023 Tucson SEL w/convenience HYBRID! You can, however buy a cheap Wireless Android Auto plug-in adapter for any car that's wired-only and get Wireless AA... so instead of the 8-inch SEL gas infotainment, I get the 10.25 SEL HEV infotainment and I just made it wireless AA with an adapter!

H-Tex leatherette seats instead of cloth and the 8" infotainment changed to the 10.25" infotainment. So... Also the chip shortage, delay in phev pricing and phev only being sold in select states, I ended up getting the hybrid. If you can put a down payment on the phev and able to wait than would be good to get. If I had the time I would have gotten. Good luck!

A message from The Netherlands. The Dutch manual states the following. Maybe this is of some use to you. Good luck. This vehicle has a "hidden" wiper design, which means that the wipers cannot be lifted when they are in the lower rest position. 1. Within 20 seconds of turning off the engine, lift the wiper lever to the MIST position (or down, to the V position) and hold it there for approximately 2 seconds until the wipers move to the upper wipe position. 2. Now you can lift the wipers off the windshield. 3. Carefully replace the wipers on the windshield. 4. Move the wipers to any ON position to return them to the lower rest position.

With the Limited it has dynamic voice control, so you just keep your attention on the road and tell the car to adjust your music, change the temp, set something in your nav system & so on. There is no need to touch anything. It takes a bit of learning & getting used to, but I'm a senior who does not know how to use a smart phone and I figured out the car. The only concern I have about hybrid, especially plug-in hybrid PHEV is the lifetime of battery and the cost of replacement when the battery lifetime ends. I am not a fan of having to change the car every few years. I have been driving my current car for 17 years. I don't mind paying a bit more upfront cost for plug-in hybrid PHEV, but I want to make sure the PHEV battery could last 10 years or more, and the cost replacement still makes sense financially. It is pointless to go with $$$$ PHEV for the sake of gas cost saving for lifetime of battery, but then would have to fork out $$$$ for new battery more than value of the car itself. With that in mind, would PHEV still make sense in the long run? (at least more than 10 years ownership)?
@davsny5
@davsny5 2 жыл бұрын
Certainly, don't get a Tesla then. Their upfront costs are exorbitant and downright insulting. They have electrical system problems like there's no tomorrow, you can't get replacement parts for at least 6 months and the battery replacement cost is at least $11,000-$13,000 and Musk is a lying sack of shit who is gonna run that company into the ground. My dumb fuck ex and her idiot husband just got the Y and are paying almost $800 a month with almost $6,000 down for a 3/30,000 lease with no extra miles or wear and tear protection plan and had to wait 4 months to get it and are already having issues with the antiquated gear shift stick on the steering wheel after less then 8 months and the lease is based on $11,000 over sticker price. I just leased the 22 Tucson SEL FWD gas model for $1,600 above sticker with $2,000 down and $471 a month with 12k miles a year and the full wear and tear protection coverage and tax included and its still more expensive then my $38,000 2016 Passat SEL Premium for $1,600 down with $437 a month, 12k and wear and tear and tax included which had everything from Self park assist to heated front and rear seats to full safety assist system with front and rear parking sensors, power folding mirrors and hands-free trunk. I like the ride and feel and all the technology and safety systems and its a beautiful looking SUV. I don't like the terrible fuel economy like 16-18 city and 20-22 hwy, needs to be broken in, yes, but for a 4-cylinder that's equivalent to my ex's Porsche Macans which were two of the worst piles of shit ever to disgrace the Porsche logo, although Porsche makes unsafe, overpriced, ugly garbage since they stopped making quality sports cars like the 928 and 944 and stared making lousy SUVs and sedans. The 911 is their only decent vehicle. I also hate the cheap and crumby cloth interior and inlays, the lack of an auto-dimming mirror, which I will be adding on, can't drive at night without one because of my vision issues, no power lift gate, the hydraulics on the manual one are awful and unlike on my Explorer, I have to pull it about 70% of the way up before it goes up by itself and no dual-zone climate, although the air works very well. They should have stand alone options, not just expensive packages.

Btty life should at least be 150k to 200k minimum if you're NOT doing proper maintenance... #1 maintenace tip to prolong high voltage battery life... change/clean the air filters for the high voltage batteries! That will keep them running good for a very, very, very long time. Worse case scenario, after a couple hundred thousand miles you have to spend $1500-$3000 on a new btty pack (worse case scenario)... before you get scared and run away, remember EV cars have less things to fix than gas cars... like you won't be changing brakes much if at all. No alternator, a few other "not in an EV car that is in a gas-only car". You'll save a lot in other maintenance over a gas car... like I said, in a worse case scenario, if it drives for 200K miles before you swap out the btty pack, and you did little more than change oil in that time... you got another 200K of low maintenance coming up. Don't even talk about how much you'll save on gas over the years. You'd come out ahead on costs even if you did have to replace the btty pack.
@Ricky-mo6mv

At 10 years or 100,000 miles, these specific batteries will no longer be produced. The production demand will be for batteries going into new vehicles. They cost so much to make that they aren’t going to have retired technology just laying around waiting for replacement requests.

Have had a 2022 Tucson Limited Hybrid for three days, 150 miles now. Agree completely about the annoying lack of wireless CarPlay connection. Also, no one has mentioned the annoying lack of a light on the drivers side window lock button so you know if it’s locked or unlocked. I would also like the remote start feature to more obviously let you know that it’s actually started. Also annoyed about the lack of a spare tire and change kit even though there’s plenty of room for it (and am getting one as soon as it’s off back order). Not sure about the efficacy of BlueLink yet compared to my old OnStar in my traded in Chevy. There seems to be significant latency. Disagree about touch screen - I find it easy to manipulate and like the clean look. The radio controls are easily manipulated from the steering wheel. I keep a small microfiber cloth in console and wipe the dash cluster & infotainment panel down each day when I first get in car. I did a major shop around looking at and test driving Subaru Outback Limited, Nissan Rogue Platinum, Lexus NX350, Volvo XC60, Chevy Equinox RS, Acura RDX, Ford Edge, Toyota RAV4 (& Pathfinder), and Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R 4motion. First choice would have been Pathfinder but just don’t need that large a vehicle anymore. All nice cars but the combination of pluses of this particular model (Tucson Limited Hybrid), including comfort while driving, safety features, gas mileage, cargo space, maintenance plan, warranty and price is very hard to beat. Not sure how the hybrid will hold up with my particular usage due dirt roads, etc. I’ve also read horror stories about Hyundai weaseling out of engine and transmission repairs while still under warranty. Hopefully, that won’t be a problem. Overall, very happy with the Tucson.

Nigel I agree in the MPG rating range I bought my 2022 Tucson for work. The gas mileage in the gas 2.5 L depending on how aggressive I’m driving my mid level trim with technology package is anywhere between 28-32 mpg in the city and 35-45mpg on the interstate (I drive mostly VA AND NC). I drove the RAV4 and the Toyota was much louder from engine noise and honestly my Tucson was more responsive in the throttle on take off and allowed me to tap into the upgraded performance from the previous years Tucson. Also this is my second Hyundai the first was the 2 door coupe Elantra in 2013 and the EPA MPG rating was understated in that class too, so much so that Hyundai issued me a check for the difference in actual vs EPA rating in 2015 hey I like free money when car companies make a mistake

Every time I take mine in for an oil change they can't believe that I average for in town. Mine do I live in a small town in central Pennsylvania but we do have highways going around our town and I'm on them a lot so maybe that's why my mileage is good. But I never get below 38. The guys in the service department said they expect that I'll get more than what's suggested also. If the location of the rear turn signals is the ONLY thing holding you back, you should buy it or rethink priorities. Gonna be honest, like you, i don't like the location of the lights either, I think it's dumb... but if that's the worst thing you can find in this car, then that means the car is great for you. On the location, i've seen other cars with lights down there... someone really has to be on your rear and tail-gating you to NOT be able to see them... it's less not being able to see them, and more "just not looking down there in the first place". Like I said, if that's the worst thing you can think of, you'll love this car.

Dang, sorry to hear about the new car smell! Hopefully that goes away soon and I wonder if there's something that can be done for that. For the volume control - it's much more than that. It's everything all AC controls, map, nav, setup, seeking, etc...it's all touch. Yes you can do volume and seek on the steering wheel, but not AC controls or things like that. Plus, it's glossy black which shows dust and lint like crazy not to mention scratches just by looking at it. Your SEL may not have entirely touch controls like this limited though. I said the SEL has wireless android auto...it's the top Limited trim that doesn't. Any Tucson with the larger 10.25'' screen does NOT get wireless.

He never mentioned those mysterious acceleration issues I've read about concerning the 2022 and 2023 Hyundai Tucson's. I've owned over 5 Hyundai my last being a loaded 2023 Elantra limited edition liquid metal which we absolutely love. Hyundai got it right with the model and year. Waiting for the 2024 Elantra N line to be introduced. Funny thing about Hyundai you never know what's going to be included in every model and trim from year to year in the American market. Not so much in South Korea.

I agree with you in the speckled piano black, but the touch screen is perfect!! Let’s face it, knobs and switches are the past!! Even to compromise for a cleaner dash is worth it! The only thing I hate about this car is the Buble effect! and the Christmas tree lights on the front is the most ridiculous feature on a car… I think in time we’ll look bk at tgis design and laugh!! However, the interior with integrated dash is by far the best I’ve seen on any modern car!! Had they kept the outer design of its predecessor this car would be 100%… Anyways I’ve ordered the new highest spec model only because I have to keep up

dont listen to ppl on the mpg, in a 22 mile drive halfway to my college i tried really hard to get good mpg and i got 53.7... in 22 miles. typically i get around 35 highway driving like a normal person and 30 driving like myself being a college student with no regard for speed

I've had my 2022 Tucson AWD SEL Convenience + Premium, for 6 weeks now and here are some of my observations. Looks great!!! Lots of room!!! MPG not so great in the city. +/-20mpg. Power OK, Interior comfort, if you are a bigger person, the seats are tight. I weigh 200lbs. I don't agree with the piano black infotainment. I find it easy to use and easy to wipe down once in a while. My biggest peeve, I like to have clean windows. How they designed the wipers and hood is crazy. You can't pull the wipers back so you can clean the windshield, they lift up maybe an inch before the hood blocks them. I borrowed a friend's Kia a couple of years ago, same issue. I remember saying to myself, why would anyone buy a vehicle where you can't have the ability to easily clean the windshield. Who checks the the windshield wipers when buying a vehicle? I like the Bluelink and some of the other accessories. I rate the car 7 out of 10.

I can't remember where I saw it exactly but there is a setting on the Tucson that you can hit and your wipers will sit in a certain area.... Such as to change your blades or maybe clear your windshield with a snow brush. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2LZo6mjq5l4gLc

Do you not know how to use steering wheel controls? You can press in the button to mute the stereo. Funny how people rarely complain about Tesla being all touch screen. Also wireless CarPlay is not great yet, would rather plug in every time. It is weird not to have it but it probably has to do with the size of the screen and Bluetooth’s limited bandwidth.

When I was car shopping, I rented a Hyundai with this touch screen and hated it! There was nothing about it that I liked. Can you imagine having to push the temp control 10 times to get the temp up 10degrees? And it beeped each time! My God, it was ridiculous. Also, trying to look away from the road and zero in on where you need to touch the screen while the car is bumping along on a freeway was downright scary yet, everyone absolutely insists on having a touch screen. The Mazda Carbon that I ended up buying has a non-touch screen, high on the dashboard and it's operated by a wheel that falls perfectly where my hand rests. It is smooth, fast, amazing to use.

1. The beep can be turned off 2. It has voice commands. You can tell it what temp to set it at. Never have to take your eyes off the road for a second. Can't say that for physical knobs

So, steering wheel controls, control the temperature in the car? Please advise. Also, I never need to mute my stereo and I've never driven a Tesla. What is your point?

I purchased a 2022 sel last year. I don't like driving this car in high winds. Seems I will go off the road. Otherwise it's good. Any one else notice this? .

With the times being as they are. Sky High Gas Prices, I am very disappointed with Hyundai. My 2022 Tucson SEL w/ convenience and premium packages gets terrible gas mileage. I complained to the corporate HQ about the poor gas mileage and they "Copped Out" saying, contact the dealer. The window sticker says 24city/29hwy/26 combined. NOT!!! I am getting 20-21City/29Hwy/23Combined. I don't know exactly why, maybe it is the 19" wheels??? Why don't they have the correct info on the window sticker? This deception at its best, similar to Honda several years ago.

Thanks for the review! The limited has the features I want, but the fact that it loses wireless Android auto makes me hold back until there is news of an update for it. The new 2023 Kia Sportage looks promising.

I wouldn't hold off. I test drove multiple Rav4s, a ID4, a Lexus SUV (can't remember model number but similar to the Venza), I also got to sit in a new Venza. And out of all of these small SUVs the Tucson was by far the best overall experience. My second favorite was the ID4 only because it felt like driving something from Star Trek but I just couldn't wait a year to pre order one lol

You talked about a software upgrade and items that are missing but did you know that auto makers are moving to the service based option? You want heated seats, that is a service and will cost you extra EVERY YEAR. How about that Apple Play? Another annual service charge. I could see this going into everything that is controlled by the onboard computer but isn’t government mandated. Just another way to shake down the customer for more profits to the dealers and manufacturers.

Why complaining about not having volume knob when you have volume control on the wheel?
