Every late 70's junior school boy admired James Hunt, Barry Sheene and Nikki Lauda. Barry and Nikki had balls of steel, both fought back from awful accidents- PROPER blokes. James was glamourous, charming, and very quick witted. LEGENDS.

I was 13 in '76 . I remember watching this going on right in front of my eyes on the telly . 3 years later I was leaving school . My parents asked me what I wanted to do . I said I want to be a racing driver . My mother said , don't be ridiculous , you must get a proper job . I hadn't got James 's big balls to argue with my mother , it just wasn't done in those days . But later on in life I did eventually get to race

I wish had the chance to Race... Cars etc . I was able to Race.. BMX .. as a Kid .. but even that was expensive for my Working Class family.. even with a Local Bicycle Shop sponsorship.. Riding gear paying my fees ... Transportation to Tracks.. was what killed it .. What I found was .. I'm a good spot, regarding all other things.. playing Pool one example, not over competitive... But... Racing!.... Even in local traffic... You know, that day to day, Slow is smooth, smooth is Fast, Hunting Apex, clean in, clean out, ... I can't turn that off... Even in my Daily Driver 1968 Dodge Dart.. inline 6 to V8 swap... I can still find ways to get around ... Faster and better handling Cars.. because of skill.. mastering left foot braking, and my own suspension setup.. Cheers from Southern California 🇺🇸... Never stop Racing

Thanks a Lot for uploading such contents. Well done! I guess, it might have been such characters and incidents that causes the 70ties (and also the 50ties and 60ties) as such iconic ages. That has still such an impact on our pop culture until today. I was about 3 years old ,in 1976. And I just realized, how deep the Culture of the 70ties influenced me visually and emotionally, and defined my taste and my personality. You should create a account, wich shows up more of this legends of these ages.

Thanks...not my documentary though....you're right though loads of great contrasting personalitys in that age who made sport and music fun to watch because they were real. I've watched this so many times and it's still fun to watch. Cheers!

I like how Sheene and Hunt would sit at the bar of the Holiday Inn(?) in Tokyo waiting for the BA cabin crew to arrive.

What gets me riled is the editors of the red tops, build them up and knock em down, it sells newspapers! There manipulation, causation of stories entrapping sports “stars” Like LBND by the BAZ of the mail. That’s Dallilglio of rugby. The journalists and editors of these stories are just scum, and check the records for those being successfully sued and as for Max Clifford all the editors knew and did nothing. The tapping into phones etc, that’s arguably not journalism that’s what Nixon did back in the day.

I'm surprised this didn't say anything about the incident at the 1997 Australian Grand Prix when Gerhard Berger and Barry Sheene were accused of trying to make a "sex sandwich" of a 19 year old named Melanie Hilzinger.

Lauda had the better car. If Hunt had a car as good as Lauda's then Hunt would have won more titles. Hunt came ahead of the other Ferrari driven by Regazzoni. Hunt even won a Grand Prix in a Hesketh for crying out loud Can you see Lauda doing that? Hunt got more out of less and wasn't afraid to take risks. Perhaps if Lauda had better control of his car then he wouldn't have spun off into a ball of flames. Hunt was the charismatic rock star of F1.

@@AtZero138Lauda only missed two races, and Hunt was ridiculously disqualified from winning the British Grand Prix. Ferrari pulled every dirty Italian trick to try and stop Hunt and McClaren from beating them in various races. Always whinging, always protesting. Ferrari had the better cars but were still chicken shit scared of Hunt and McClaren. Ferrari tried to get Hunt and McClaren disqualified for the wrong fuel, for the wrong width. Both claims were rejected. At the British Grand Prix it was the two Ferraris, of Regazzoni and Lauda, which caused the accident in the first place, and everybody else suffered including Hunt. Hunt got disqualified, despite winning the race, for doing exactly the same as Regazzoni did. Regazzoni later dropped out with mechanical problems however and Ferrari then protested against Hunt. If Regazzoni had won, Ferrari wouldn't have protested. Lauda was too scared to finish the last race. If you aren't brave enough to see it through when others are still racing then you don't deserve to be champion. It's as simple as that. Hunt deservedly won the title in an inferior car. Hunt only ever had a good car for one season. 1976.

@lyndoncmp5751 (better control)..... Your amateur "at best" attempt to understand and somehow criticize, What happened in that terrible crash, says a lot, N.L Car is entering the Corner, down hill and to the Left, placing the Weight on the front Right tyre and sharing mechanical grip with the Right Rear.. Turning Left..... Mid Apex... Racecar snaps to the Right!.. And into the barrier.... (Better Control).... Absolutely No one could have prevented this "parts failure".. Watch the footage... If his Car oversteered while turning Left.. the rear would've swung out, fallowing the fronts.. Not the complete opposite direction...
