Enjoyed the vid. I've been checking in on some of your vids since the purchase of my four wheel camper earlier this spring. That's a hell of a build you have done, which to accommodate a family of four makes sense. I'm running a first gen Tacoma single cab with 235k on it, and with the 2.7 4 banger. Only chasis mods are 33" MT, 2" front rancho EZ lift and rear 2" lift extended shackles with RS9000 damping adjustables and rear Hellwig 1500lb overload springs to handle the 1400lb wet weight of the Fleet camper. Pretty happy with on/offroad handling/capability. There are some things i'd wish for in the future such as lockers and winch to name a few just to give me some added headroom on capability, but its rather impressive what the rig will do as is but I just have to be more careful of the situations I get into, but for what it is, its a lightweight package which I appreciate. MPG could be improved since I travel thousands of miles across country in this thing every year and is also my DD, but at 12-14mpg its alright for what it is. I'm heavy footed.

Your Tacoma sounds like one heck of a build! The added capability of a winch with lockers is undeniably a game changer, and allows us to self recover out of 98% of situations. You make a great point... and its that "stockish" off-road vehicles are much more capable than most realize. Thanks for sharing your build, if your ever in Northern CA I'd love to see it in person!

Recently I had the opportunity to drive FWC’s project M on their RAM truck and I loved it. The truck handled great stock with the camper and was damn comfortable. Downside, I didn’t have a heat source 🤣 that’ll keep a person up all night 😵💫 see you on the trail 🤘

Great review - thanks for taking the time to do this - love that you took some time with the setup, and really ran it through it's paces, and we didn't just get the glowing "review" from the day after install. Had a question (if you don't mind, although I realize I'm just hitting you up fro free advice here) - I'm considering a flat-bed camper setup on a Tundra as well. Was hoping that I'd have less suspension customization needed. Wondering if you think I could get away without the frame stiffener "X" you installed, as well as those extra shocks in the rear, considering the following differences for the setup I'm planning: - 2022 Tundra - so fully boxed frame, and 200lb greater payload rating - Camper will be pretty much same size as four wheel camper, but will be a full-composite build - I'm guessing 200-300 lbs lighter? - I'll be running 35's rather than 37's - I'll have a 6.5ft bed, rather than 5.5ft, so my camper weight will be further forward than yours (still deciding between double cab and crewmax) Think I could get away with just new coils and shocks? Or do you think I'll regret it? I'm a big Toyota fan, but just wondering if I should pivot and go Ram 2500 for this. Thanks in advance for any advice!
@WolfPacOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Like you I've also considered what it would take to do this on the 22' Tundra... and after researching this is what I recommend for a "MILD" build. Depending on the final weight your vehicle will be (any alterations to the truck have to be calculated into the total carrying capacity of the vehicle**) should steer you toward which carrying capacity you should be looking into (double cab MORE carrying capacity vs crew max LESS capacity). caveat: you can customize until it holds the weight you want with the performance it'll just cost more. Just because the camper is lighter doesn't mean you'll carry less or more gear, again attempt to calculate everything you'd carry with you... water, food, spare parts, tire weight, wheels, body armor, you get the point. Regear... it's a must for larger tires plus the weight. Without it you'll lose uphill power, and it'll want to run away on you when in 4lo going down hill. I'd stick with the 6.5' bed option with either the crewmax or double cab, both are viable options. Suspension upgrades: you'll want to do all 4 corners when you do it or it'll likely feel unbalanced. New springs, new shocks, new coilovers... all rated for the final weight you'll be at (this goes for any size truck or build). Again, this is a basic Mild build, and should be considered as a minimum... and IMHO it's the minimum I'd do on any brand/model I built.

Would love to hear more comments regarding the specifics of the interior and all the details of plumbing and heating system? I've been getting lots of feedback from other people who are getting rid of theirs because they're sick and tired of fixing the PEX plumbing and they really do not like the heating system and the manifold for it at all? What is your experience with the details on the inside? Do you know if four wheel campers are allowing for different and better systems? Love to hear your opinion before I pull the trigger because we're getting very close on making a decision. Also I have been looking at Supertramp campers even though I know they are quite overpriced and are a startup company it seems like they are using top notch systems inside and out? Hard to beat the amount of room though with this flatbed system. It's just the wife and I and as we have always been outdoor enthusiasts our kids are finally gone and it's time to start the next adventure and we really want to start trucking! Thanks and very well done!!

I hear ya, and you bring up a lot of good points... I'll start working on something more detail oriented. Near the end of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6Onkn54i5tqaLM I started having troubles with the heater, the long and short of it, they're finicky but simple to fix if you consider the order of operations. I wouldn't say I'm more extreme than anyone else on the gear but I could see how daunting owning one of these campers could be if you've never owned a camp trailer before. Maintenance will start stacking up especially if you're putting in hard miles on rough terrain. They're really are some extreme downsides though, for instance; can't popup camp in Yellowstone, regulations say hard side camping only. On the other hand we've had some of the most epic campsites in the history of humans with this thing on the truck. I'll start working on something to go along with this video 👍

Nice rig!! I Raptor coated my hawk flatbed.......norweld and the camper itself. The thin aluminum makes it lightweight but branches make creases for sure. the Raptor coat has strengthened up the camper huge, and branches dont crease the aluminum!!! 47k is not bad anymore for your camper...I saw one on the mainline overland site for 67K and it isn't even built out like yours!!! :P. Ok last thing.... I rolled my last rig and all those heavy tools and airtank inside the cab would freak me out. I couldn't tell if they where all strapped down but it all goes flying around the cab in a rollover... hope to see you out there!
@WolfPacOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea with raptor coating the camper, I was considering doing a vinyl wrap but that would really only protect from scratches. For the things in the back seat, they've found a new home in the tray. The fridge and tank stayed and are strapped. Similar to your rollover I have a friend who rolled their fire engine and everything turned into a missile. Was your previous truck a flatbed RAM, I read an article that sounded similar from FWC newsletter. I'd bet we'll see each other at Overland Expo this year 🤜🤛

Great review. I am a bit out from purchasing my truck and camper, but I really appreciate this review. I think what I am most concerned about is the weight. I am thinking of getting a F250 and upgrade the suspension, but not sure how it would compare to buying a Tundra or F150 and spent extra money on the suspension.
@WolfPacOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! I definitely understand the weight & platform concerns. Without going into too much detail, I'd like to offer my advise... No matter 1/2, 3/4, or 1 TON truck I would still have modified the same parts EXCEPT I wouldn't have needed to strengthen the frame of a 3/4 or 1 TON platform. That being said the "natural" longevity of a 3/4 or 1 ton should be longer because they are built with larger parts (axles, brakes, drive line, etc.)... but with that extra beef comes larger taxes in CA and a "naturally" heavier truck. Does this help?

Since making this video I was able to get some repairs done under warranty. One of the toughest things has been dealing with the larger companies since FWC is a 3rd party distributor and basically only warranties the camper and not all the bits attached.
