Congratulations🎉🎊Please I would like your advice/guide on how to become a nurse informatics for someone that's still in nursing school. thanks!
@dopenursingish3 ай бұрын
Thank you! First, it’s important to get some clinical experience in an acute setting. Employers prefer at least 3-5 years of clinical experience because you understand the workflow as a nurse and will be able to improve the workflow when becoming an informatics nurse. Definitely join an informatics committee at a hospital. This allows you to network and see what goes on in the background. You can also further your career by obtaining your Masters of Science in Nursing Informatics.

Congratulations on your journey and achievements! I came across your page while looking up utilization review nurse. I have an interview coming up for this position and would love some tips on skills set I should highlight
@dopenursingishАй бұрын
Thank you! If you are working for a hospital, let them know that you are proficient in navigating the electronic medical record system. You are a quick learner when it comes to learning new system applications. You are able to pull important clinical information from the chart to prove your case as in to why the patient continues to need hospital treatment. If you are working for an insurance company, you can use the same information but ensure that you are proficient in pulling important clinical information from reviews to support the insurance company’s continued coverage. I hope this helps! Do great on your interview!

I have my MSN in informatics and it has been really difficult to find a job with no experience. I currently work in UM but I have to leave that role and I am applying to CDI/CDS roles. I would love to connect with you to hear any advice you have to offer and learn more about your personal experience breaking into the NI field.

Hey!!! Congratulations on your MSN! Yes it can be difficult to land a nursing informatics job. It took me 5 years. But don’t get discouraged! You can email me at dopenursingllc@gmail.com.

Do you HAVE to go for a masters degree? I don’t want more debt.
@dopenursingish20 күн бұрын
Hey! No you have to get a Masters degree. I have some co workers without it but it does make you more marketable when looking for a job. If you currently work at a hospital it would be easier to transition into the informatics department.

Great video! I enjoyed every second and learned so much. I have a huge interest because, similar to you, I love tech and nursing. I am currently in my last semester of nursing school, and I am thinking about nursing informatics. I would like to get my Master's degree in nursing informatics after I get some experience, but I would like to know is it beneficial for that career? Also, do I have to gain experience on acute care floors only?
@dopenursingishАй бұрын
Aww thank you for your kind words! Yes, it is beneficial to have your Master's degree but it is not necessary. It will make you more marketable when it's time to look for a job. Working in an acute care setting is another plus because it will allow you to understand the workflow as a nurse on the units. When you transition into Informatics, you will be more knowledgeable on how to improve the workflow in the EMR system. I hope this helps!

@dopenursingish thank you so so much! This was so helpful! I take critical care next semester and I am excited yet nervous because I freeze in critical situations, but I know it comes with time.

Hi, thanks for sharing! I might’ve missed it but did you have to have bedside experience for your informatics position? And if so how long do you recommend?
@dopenursingish6 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes I had bedside experience for 7 years. You don’t always have to have bedside experience to work in nursing informatics but it is preferred. You’re able to identify improvement in workflows that will benefit the nurses.

Great info, I too have my MSN in Healthcare Informatics, but have not landed that ultimate goal job I want (Analyst or CIS). My question is 1st. I currently work as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDI), are you informatics certified? If so, do you find that it makes you more marketable having the cert? Also, as a CDI, do you think this experience would help transitioning into an Informatics Analyst/CIS position? Thanks for your time :)
@dopenursingish7 ай бұрын
Hi! No, I’m not informatics certified but I do plan on getting certified. I first had to complete a certain amount of hours working in informatics. I do think it will make you more marketable. Also, I think CDI is a good transition as well because you are continuously in the EMR navigating through sections. Your experience will definitely help! We communicate with CDI often with the surgical documentation.

Heyy Congratulations🎉 For a 2nd year nursing diploma student..how can my transition into Nursing informatics be easier for me Please advise me
@dopenursingish5 ай бұрын
Hey!!! Thank you and congratulations on your nursing journey! Once you get your nursing position, join the informatics committee if your job has one. Become proficient in the electronic medical record system at your job. You can also become a super user for your system. Ask to shadow an informatics nurse if you can and start networking.

This is so awesome! Congratulations!🤍 You are such an inspiration to me. Can you please say from where did you get your MSN in Informatics? Was it online? I am trying to see if I can find a program that best accommodates to my schedule. I wish you the best in everything!❤
@dopenursingish3 ай бұрын
Aww thank you so much! I attended Grand Canyon University. It was an online program. It worked well with my schedule. I had a good experience there. I will tell you that when I obtain my degree I only had to complete a practicum at the end of the program but now I hear that you will need a preceptor and complete a certain amount of hours. I hope this was helpful and I wish you the best as well! 💕
