I am a certified case manager now for only 5 years in a acute hospital and it is not a remote position at least where I am and we have 24,32 and 40 hr positions. I work in a very large hospital system in California and these positions are only at the hospital and it does involve patient rounding with the doctors once a day followed by hours of charting, phone calls and meetings. It’s similar to a PA position. It’s tough to get in without bedside experience and exposure at some time in your career, though not impossible especially if you have a Masters degree then you can skip the bedside experience. I feel new grads should experience the clinical bedside position because it not only teaches invaluable skills but you learn team dynamics , organizational skills and strategies, prioritizing and you gain a lot of confidence in your abilities. I couldn’t imagine being called a nurse without truly experiencing bedside nursing and this is my opinion after over two decades of nursing under my belt that includes nearly every specialty except pediatrics or newborn. In my opinion, most of us get into nursing to help people and you’ll never truly feel those rewards unless you start at the bedside. Your content is interesting. Wondering what your background is in nursing? ✌️

@@Cheeku7777I did research on what types of jobs nurses can do from home. KZbin is a great resource for that. There are a few creators who are remote nurses who have channels, blogs, and Facebook groups. Then I picked what I thought I would be good at and researched the role a lot. And searched for those jobs specifically.

I'm 65 but still need to work; I want to work from home my last few years of my career; I've done everything from ASK-A-NURSE to Trauma surgery & literally everything in-between home care & school nursing. How do I find a Case Management job @ 65 yrs of age? I've been a RN since 1980

They definitely aren't easy to find, but we work hard to post URUM roles that don't list it as a requirement, only a preference. CVS has been on a UR hiring spree and several Ferns have been hired into the role from the bedside.

Hi Fern, immensely grateful for your content. Any advice for an inpatient psych RN trying to get into data abstraction?
@remotenursefern Жыл бұрын
Hi! If you aren't already - see if there are any quality initiatives you can get involved with on your unit that you'd be able to highlight on your resume. This includes chart auditing - see if your leads/management need help with chart checks. Getting involved with committees and process improvement activities is helpful as well. Look for things like unit practice council, superuser EMR needs, LEAN teams, etc. And just keep applying!

Hey there! I’m sure your inbox is full so I’ll try not to make this long winded. Would you possibly make a video in the future about contract or agency positions but related to where to get health insurance and what cost that might be compared to an employer sponsored plan? I’ve heard you can get insurance with the agency you are with but that it isn’t that great so I’m interested if there are better insurance options out there for my kiddo and I if I went contract

Fantastic content! I currently work for CM x3 yrs with an insurance company (been a nurse for 14yrs)in a low paying area in Texas. I have been wanting a position in PA or CDI. Do you know if I choose to work for a better paying city within my state if they are willing to hire me? I notice many remote positions still want you to live in the same city in case of an in office monthly meeting etc. My background includes med/surg, PACU, and CM.

I have been an LPN for 20 years now. I needed a break from bedside nursing a few years ago and have been working as a remote coder for the last 3 years. Are there any jobs that allow LPN's with their CPC to do these remote jobs or jobs where I can utilize both degrees? I do not want to lose my license but am not ready to go back to bedside.
@remotenursefern10 ай бұрын
There are roles for nurse coders, auditors, quality, etc that we often see with insurance companies that do require nursing and coding exp. It would be worth looking more closely at the requirements for those. :)

@remotenursefern Жыл бұрын
Some of the nurse advocate positions for companies like trusted and incredible health have allowed it in the past as long as you held a US address. I don't know if they've tightened up their guidelines and still allow this though. It is quite difficult to find roles that allow a worldwide nomad lifestyle unless you go into business for yourself and do something like LNC or Freelance Nurse Writing.

Depends on what you're interested in! ER translates to many remote roles. The obvious option for some flexibility is triage but your experience is valuable for everything from UR/UM, CM, to CDI. We do have a quiz you can take (is asks for your email, but if you're already on our list it doesn't increase the emails you get) nursefern.com/remote-nurse-quiz/
