A few years ago, I had a PVD in both eyes and my floaters got much worse and are now hard to ignore. I've been dealing with them for about 3 years now. Hey, first of all, congrats man. You’re living my dream currently. Second of all, I know you’re young so, I wanna know how hesitant your doctor was to do this on you? Did it take a lot of convincing or did he understand your plight immediately and do it? I’m 18, obviously a little younger, and have been trying to get the vitrectomy done from 3 different surgeons who all basically told me they don’t feel comfortable operating on me because of how young I am. Just curious to see how that process was for you, cheers

It took a fair amount of convincing. At no point, did he want to do the surgery. Even flat out saying so. But I explained to him in excruciating detail my plight and he agreed to do it. I also agreed to give it months of time to think it over. When I came back after 6 months even more desperate, he agreed.

Hey there hope you are doing well. As I had stated before I also had a core vitrectomy since my surgeon attempted a PVD but was unable to do so due to the tight attachment to retina and did not want to risk a tear. Did your doctor advise you if a PVD would occur quicker than normal in the future due to the surgery? Mine said could be 6 months or 20 years. Also did you get a potential timeline for cataracts formation? Mine again have a very wide timeline on that as well. Just wanted to compare. Hope to hear what you were told.

@garrettgoyen8312
@garrettgoyen8312 9 ай бұрын
Hey Joseph, you mentioned that due to your young age the surgeon was not able to induce a PVD and therefore left the vitreous/hyaloid membrane on the surface of your retina. I am 23 years old and I had a vitrectomy for floaters about 2 years ago at this point. My surgeon also left the membrane on my retina due to my age. So, I mention this because I have noticed ever since my procedure, when I drink alcohol (which is a diuretic which can cause dehydration) , or when I get dehydrated from not drinking enough water, I notice that I get flashes of light in the eye I had a vitrectomy. I talked to my surgeon about this and he said that because the vitreous has mostly been removed, my eye is now filled with water and when I get dehydrated the water levels in my eye get lower which causes less pressure to be in my eye. The low pressure in the eye apparently allows the vitreous membrane to tug and pull on my retina, thus, causing the light flashing phenomenon that I have noticed. I have also noticed that high impact activity like running 1 or 2 miles causes the flashes of light to occur in the vitrectomized eye as well. I guess the high impact of running causes vibrations to travel through the body and when it reaches the eye I had surgery on, the vibrations cause the membrane to wiggle around and pull and tug on my retina. Anyways, I was wondering if you had also experienced anything like this and if there are any activities or things that you do that seem to linked to causing flashes in your operated eye. Please let me know whenever you have the time as I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

My surgeon tugged on the Posterior Vitreous but it wouldn't budget, due to my young age. Forcing a PVD would likely cause Retinal Detachment. It's possible I develop floaters down the road, but they won't be as bad as what I had.

Hello. I am a 72 year old healthy guy who had cataract surgery performed on my right eye 2 years ago. Since then, I have developed spider web like floaters in that eye and it can be distracting, especially when driving. They can appear in the extreme right of my peripheral vision, causing me to think someone (or something) may be approaching me from the right. It can be more than distracting as you might imagine while behind the wheel of a car. My eye doctor and I discussed the situation a year ago and he advised waiting a while to see if they lessened or were absorbed. They haven't, and I see my eye doctor again next month. I am leaning towards have the floater only vitrectomy performed but naturally have to consider potential risks. My eye doctor was trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital and knows his craft well. Still, there is always that risk, no matter how small. Watching videos such as yours does aid me in my final decision. Thanks!

Thanks vm Joseph. Very helpful. I just had a cataract surgery with iol implant and 1.5 month later my left eye developed large floater near retina central vision and small one further with possibly vitreous membrane which I gather is PVD, and 1 month after the right eye followed. So I am contemplating a FOV and your info and vdo helps a lot in aiding my decision. Thank you again and I hope you continue to enjoy your successful operation.

I just want to report to you that I had my floater only vitrectomy in both eyes with a very experienced doctor in Bangkok who did my cararact surgery and IOL implant. The floaters appeared in both eyes within 1 month post iol implant and 1 month apart from the other eye . The operation was very successful and the healing was even better than cataract surgery. Thanks for your vdo that gave me encouragement to do it. 🙏🙏

Hello there! I am male, 31 from Germany, suffering by the floater. I had mononucleosis in 2017 and since than i am getting weird symptoms. I would like to ask you some questions. Maybe you already did a vid for that. Is there something Special about you? Do you have problems with your blood vessels or symptoms by it eg numbness in hands, feet? Cold feet or hands? Did you have an infect (maybe even with hospitalisation?)? Are you snoring at night? Do you have Stress, hurting neck and shoulders? Do you have fat stool (swimming in Water)? I did my own research, developed mecfs After that infection 2017 and think I got problems with microclots in my blood vessels. There is therapy called help apheresis. Ever heard of that before? Thank you so much for your open handling with These floater!

As for my vision, I had a new lense put in and now only need readers and there's no floaters I see at all,. After going over 20yrs hardly using my eye, I still catch myself closing it when reading or using phone. Really glad I had it done!

Just had a fov on my left eye after a pvd. I’m only ten days in but I’m still seeing a fairly dark and long chain floater. Any ideas if this is likely to shift or is this one the surgeon didn’t manage to get. Eyesight definitely improved though but hope something can be done about this straggler.

@@josephlandingjr.4927 thank you for taking the time to reply Joseph. It is early days. So glad I had the procedure done, I actually thought I was going mad post PVD. My vision became beautiful right after the surgery. However, after a few months, I started to see black vertical lines at the edge of my vision.
